best cruise line for singles, least single supplement, best value?

Oh, and my other solo was on Holland America. I had a great time on the cruise, again because I'm outgoing and friendly, but of the 1200 passengers on the ship, about 1000 were over the age of 65 so the entertainment, etc. was geared towards them. The casino was small and the lounges were generally closed by midnight. I didn't spend much time at them, instead went to the movie theatre on the ship and enjoyed watching 3 popular films that I had wanted to see ... along with free popcorn!

Advice ... it's up to you to make your cruise eventful! :p

My late husband and I loved cruising and I really don't want to give it up, but at this point would rather go solo, than with a pal. Anyone ever solo on Carnival?

I have cruised with family, pals and solo. Yes I cruised Carnival solo. I too was fortunate to get the 'single supplement' rate before they stopped doing it. I did three seven days b2b2b (long story) solo. I had the best time and even made it thru the big 50 alone. I also did a couple 4/5 days. I'm doing a 4,5,5 starting 2/9 and can't wait.

I have done 4 cruises since my wife died 10/31/10. I enjoy the cruise but it is a much different experience. Cruising has and always be my best vacation option. My next one is 4/1/12 on Carnival Conquest out of NO,LA.

If you have an engaging personality and a sense of adventure, single cruising is ok. regarding the earlier post regarding the SS. Pick your room of choice and go, you can't take it with you when you are gone.:D

I did a spread sheet analysis of the NCL Epic cabins. While some people enjoy the dedicated lounge and don't mind interior cabins, I found that the studios, at 100 sq. ft., are not much less than paying 200% for a standard, larger inside cabin. I just don't think NCL is being honest when they say there's "no single supplement" on the studios.

Hi all,

I have just read this board and I agree. I am going on a TA next year; when I booked the Travel agent said there were cheaper inside cabins for a solo traveler. I also think NCL saying (on the website) there is not SS is not true.

I don't worry too much about the supplement. What it costs is what it costs.

I am right now (using my cell phone and bluetooth to my laptop) returning from my fifth solo cruise (the Cunard was with my late mother, and we did not share a cabin). I don't think I could take a 100 square foot cabin. I find most cruise cabins fairly confining and can't even imagine how four people squeeze in them. I don't think I'm a candidate for one of them.

I tend to eat in the Lido so the issue of dining room really isn't for me.

That being said on most cruises I seem to be a square peg in a round hole as a single.

Hi,

I just saw this post so I thought I would weigh in even though it is a few months later. I was on the NCL Epic with another person in a balcony room and it was not really good. The sq ft was very small. If I am going to be small sq ft I would rather be by myself, at least I won't be running into a person when I need to move in the room. I guess it depends on how much room you need as a solo person. I am trying a 'solo' room on the NCL Breakaway in April. I have been in other rooms on other CL solo, balcony and inside, so I am trying this. Sorry about your Mom.

I have sailed in suites with my late husband and also an inside on Explorer of the Seas last November as a solo. I did not mind the inside as a solo but there is no way I could share that "space" with anyone, not even my husband if he were still alive. I just got an awesome deal on a balcony on Brilliance with a 50% supplement on a really cheap "per person" basis.

My first two nights on the Epic, I ate early because I had booked early shows. I asked the maitre'd to sit me with other passengers. I was told most passengers preferred to dine with their party and not have others join them. So, for two nights, I dined alone and hated it.

Since not having to share a table with strangers is one of the advantages which NCL advertises, I am a bit leery about going on a solo cruise with them. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

You can find pics, diagrams, deck plans, etc at CruiseDeckPlans.com. great place to get up to date info on most cruise lines/ships.

I normally pay whatever the rate is. No way I could stand a 10 x 10 room. I did have an oceanview cabin once (first cruise). I feel it is a waste of money. Save the money and get an interior, because you will spend most of your time on deck, anyway. I get mini-suites on NCL now, or aft balcony cabins on some other ship lines. Scored a great cabin on Carnival, paid balcony price but got a stateroom on the Vista deck with a wraparound balcony. One of the hidden bargains a good travel agent will tell you about. I had researched the same cruise, she got me the cabin for about $70 less than I could have, plus I got $100 OBC.

helpful advice when booking cruise, one recommendation was booking late at a discount, for 10 day panama canal princess showing rate of $2000 inside price dropped to $1200 inside single month before cruise; booked guarantee inside and upgraded to outside cabin, thanks for the help!
