Veendam --a grand entrance at a wedding at Battery Park-NYC

last month on Sunday 9/4 we attended a friend's daughter's wedding at Battery Gardens in Battery Park-NYC.. in the middle of the ceremony low and behold the Veendam makes her grand entrance as it sets sail for her Bermuda cruise out of NY Harbor and passes by in front of Lady Liberty

 

not wanting to miss the opportunity.. I snapped a couple of quick 'discreet' pics (without flash of course) just to 'capture the moment' without interrupting the proceedings..

wish the quality of the pics were better.. but with a 'blown out' bright background I was lucky they came out the way they did just using my lil' Canon 850 point and shoot.. sure wish I had my SLR with me to take those pics..

 

first time we were back in that part of NYC in many moons... when we get up that way ( back home) to visit relatives in Brooklyn and on Long Island a couple of times a year we very rarely get the chance to 'cross the river' into Manhattan

 

it happened to be a Sunday the week before 9-11 so security on land ..and on the water.. was at its peak at high alert

Governor's Island is in the background and has a large US Coast Guard base there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governors_Island

it was.. we had been outside overlooking the Battery for the cocktail hour just a short time before that... good thing she didn't come by then.. I might have missed the wedding ceremony.. :D
