futuresoonermom Posted October 26, 2011 #28 Share Posted October 26, 2011 Happy Anniversary! Great review and great pictures! Lucky you cruising without the kids! Did you have to pay for the wine/food tasting or the steakhouse? I'm wondering this as well. Loving the review!
phyzz Posted October 26, 2011 Author #29 Share Posted October 26, 2011 [/i][/b] I'm wondering this as well. Loving the review! yes , there is a 15.00 charge for the wine tasting . You get 5 good size portions of wine and a little snacking plate with salmon , filet, cheese and fruit .
phyzz Posted October 26, 2011 Author #30 Share Posted October 26, 2011 After drinking all of that wine , I needed some food so we headed to the Buffet . It was carribean day I guess because everything had jerk seasoning on it . It was "ok" . But when you have a buzz , anything tastes good ...right ? Chuck loved the dessert bar -- he went back a couple times . After lunch we just wandered around the ship . I stopped in the cyber cafe to email my DD $10.00 for 3 minutes !! at 4pm chuck went to the casino and I went to Tea Time . I was suppose to meet the ladies from the wine tasting but I could not find them as it was very crowded . I have learned that I am not a tea person .... but I loved the dessert cart that comes along with the tea . One of everything please !!! Tonight we are celebrating our 25th anniversary , in the steakhouse .
phyzz Posted October 26, 2011 Author #31 Share Posted October 26, 2011 dinner at the Steakhouse is always amazing . Our favorite part of the cruise . and well worth every dime . Warning - the cheesecake is as big as your head . Chuck surprised me with a dozen roses . i guess he's a keeper . we were soo full after dinner . I thought I was going to explode . We stoped in to see the magician - but I hear that he never made it onto the ship . It was just the male lead singer from the Living in America show ...so we passed . phyzz Posted October 26, 2011 Author #32 Share Posted October 26, 2011 WE HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED IN BERMUDA !! We were instructed to wait until we had cleared .... do not go to the gangways !!! this was my view from the ship . When The CD came on the pa and said it was cleared we jumped on the elevator and were off the ship in 5 minutes . It was so quick . We had a quick photo on the gang way and off we went . we have hired Duke Soares to be our tour guide for the day . He was waiting for us right at the end of the walkway . he was a cute little man with red bermuda shorts and socks pulled up to his knees . We were with him for 5 1/2 hours . he drove us from the ship all the way to the farthest end of the island then dropped us off in Hamitlon . with tip it was only 250.00 . I met 2 girls later in the day that did basically the same trip with carnival , except they were stuck on a bus and could only see stuff out of the window , the bus did not stop. for the same price . we stopped anywhere and every where . he knew I like to take photos so he would take me to out of the way places because he thought it would make for a great photo op . it was awesome !!! phyzz Posted October 26, 2011 Author #34 Share Posted October 26, 2011 let me see if I can remember all of places we went and the things we saw . We bypassed the Gibbs Lighthouse ..there were too many people there . we went to heyden chapel , sommerset bridge , Navy crest wall, Church bay , Horse shoe bay , Jobson Cove , we saw banyon trees and banana trees , we went to palm grove gardens , we saw Micheal douglas' house , Micheal Bloomberg's home , beautiful golf courses , St george , St peter's church , the unfinished church , Ft catherine , St david's lighthouse , the Airport and where they can land the space shuttle if need be , he stopped and grabbed a couple leaves off of an AllSpice tree for me to smell . Cherry bushes , Sea grapes , Flatts village , Turtle rescue , We stopped for about an hour at the Swizzle Inn and had lunch , He took us to Alexandria Battery beach to collect sea glass , we met his wife and saw his home . He was soooo versed in bermuda history - and taught us a few things about Virginia history as well . he ended out our tour in hamilton . . He was awesome !! he would stop anywhere and everywhere . he never made us feel rushed or uncomfortable at all. We walked around Front Street , did a couple over priced shops , had a snack at Flannigans and then decided it was time to head back to the ship - we took the 6pm ferry back to the dockyard . i never ever felt unsafe in Bermuda except around the Ferry area ...there were a few "seedy" looking gentlemen hanging out there . ddloml Posted October 26, 2011 #36 Share Posted October 26, 2011 I had plans to go to the Wine/ food pairing ( why do they do that at 11am ) So did you really get to sample the Dom Perignon?!?:D:) The shape of the label hasn't changed in decades. (Bottle on the far left) Not a bad deal for $15 if you did!
JaniceB Posted October 26, 2011 #37 Share Posted October 26, 2011 Five glasses of wine for $15 seems like a good deal to me and learning something about what goes best with your meal even better. Wine tasting at noon and nap for me at 2.:D Really enjoying your review!

TheCalicoCat Posted October 27, 2011 #39 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Glad to hear your tour with Duke was nice, we have one planned with Colin & I am super excited! (Now Colin better show up in his Bermuda shorts - he already knows that I want to take a lot of photos & I sent him a list of some spots that sound/look intersting based on my research.) NCTribeFan Posted October 27, 2011 #42 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I totally missed the cooking demo. I went to a couple on my HAL cruise last November and enjoyed them. But since I tend to try to use the sea days to relax, I also tend to NOT read the Fun Times very closely and really only look at the next day's when I get to my cabin before bedtime (and usually after having had several glasses of wine during the evening), hence my 'doh' episode with the time change. :o

THE BIRDCAGE - BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS RARELY USED ANY MORE , I WAS KIND OF DISAPOINTED . HAMILTON WAS OUR END OF THE TOUR STOP . IT IS A REGULAR BUSY CITY . EXPENSIVE SHOPS AND OVER PRICED RESTURANTS . WE DID NOT STAY HERE LONG WE HAD LUNCH AT FLANNIGANS . A LITTLE PRICEY . $20.00 FOR FISH N CHIPS . NICE ATMOSPHERE THOUGH
jmwg49 Posted October 27, 2011 #47 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Great review! We were in Bermuda on the Miracle in September. We loved the Swizzle Inn!! Great memories there! We were a little shocked at the price of a pitcher of Swizzles, as it was a small pitcher (I think I was expecting like a beer pitcher!)...but that little pitcher sure does have a very large kick! phyzz Posted October 31, 2011 Author #49 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Our secind day in Bermuda was a short one . Our boat left at noon , which was ok with us ..because there was NOTHING exciting to do at the DockYard anyway ( in our opinion ) We got off the ship around 8 only to find that NOTHING was open , not even a coffee shop . so we went back and had breakfast in the buffet . Things were starting to open at 9 . We watched the glass blowers make vases , had some rum cake samples , and walked around . We went into the mall only to find it to be a giant "rumage" / strawmarket kind of place . not for us. We liked some of the paintings in one shop , but the line was sooo long and the ladies behind the counter did not seem to know how to run the cash register , so we put our items back on the shelf and left . It was sooo windy here , not sure if that is normal . I would hate to be in a hurricane if that was normal .
