Review of my first cruise ever aboard the MS Eurodam, 11/12/11

Thursday was a full day at sea. Got a hot stone massage in the spa that morning. It was great. I wanted to go back to sleep afterwards. Last formal night for dinner and then an absolutely hilarious night owl session in the theater with Mark Steyn, Jonah Goldberg, and Roman Genn :D

Glad you had a wonderful time on your first cruise.

I loved the way you incorporated pictures with each day's adventure.

Thank you for taking the time to do this review.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. Got some more to put up just wish the cruise hadn't ended :p But I'm definitely hooked on cruising now.

Well the last night of the cruise and we had the National Review farewell reception up on the lido deck before dinner. Here I am with the following people:

Former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu

Ralph Reed, chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition

Jonah Goldberg of National Review

Andrew Klavan and James Lileks. Andrew does some great videos and works for GBTV. He and James also write some great books.

Uggh... Saturday morning and we're coming into Fort Lauderdale. The cruise is ending but the memories will last a lifetime. I'm hooked on cruising, can't wait for the next one. I'll post some final thoughts on this great vacation a little later.

Some final thoughts on my first ever cruise. Overall I enjoyed it. I give HAL a B+ and yes I think I would sail with them again down the road. I enjoyed meeting people from this forum and from the National Review group. I'm sailing the Ruby Princess in April and can't wait. Below are, in my opinion, the thumbs up and thumbs down of this cruise:

Thumbs up:

The lido buffet

Any of the bars

The casino(small but nice)

The service(a few minor complaints but that happens)

The National Review part(Kudos to Jack Fowler and the people from the Cruise Authority. They did a great job on this)

My cabin(For a big guy like myself, very comfortable)

St. Thomas(best port on our itinerary in my opinion)

Half Moon Cay(nice private island)

Announcements kept to a minimum

Never met him but I thought the Captain came off as very professional. He even apologized for things that weren't even under his control(such as the late departure, the rough seas first couple of days)

The spa(the hot stone massage is a must. I'm addicted to it)

The TV got Fox News and ESPN(thank heavens)

Thumbs down:

San Juan(as I said, didn't care for it that much)

Wished they had offered Prime Rib on another night in the MDR

What is it with these places and their love with Coke products? Pepsi products please!

The wait time for elevators

The coffee(again, needs major improvement)

Well there you go friends.... the complaints were far outweighed by the positives. My first cruise ever, completed on 11/19 of this year. And it certainly won't be my last :D

If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer them.

Chris, thanks for your review. My husband and I were on this cruise also. We stopped by your cabana early in the morning while at Half Moon Cay, since you mentioned on the roll call that anyone was welcome. We talked for a few minutes, then moved on to take in as much of that wonderful island as possible. Maybe someday we will met again. Until then.........may your days be filled with thouhts of sunshine and blue waters.

What a fabulous review and how very sweet it was of you to take the time to do this! One question though:

Did they have 2 for 1 drinks in the Crows Nest part of the evenings, like they did on the Westerdam last year? We didn't realize this until the next to last evening, and found that bar made the best frozen drinks!

Thanks,

Maxine

Yes they did which came in handy when we had the informal gathering after dinner. Had it on two of the nights we were there

First full day at sea and start of the NR sessions. Got to meet both former Senator Fred Thompson and NH Governor John Sununu in the first session. Second panel that morning discussed who they thought would be the GOP nominee and why. Very good session but I respectfully disagree with their pick :D

Don't leave me hanging - what was their pick? My husband and I would have loved this cruise (we are political too and a real NR fan).
