Alaska_2012 Posted January 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I could use some guidance please. We are currently booked in SA 7042 on the Zuiderdam to Alaska in late June. I was just checking and I see there is one VC room left (5003) and it is $2000 cheaper than the SA. We have never cruised before so we won't know the difference between the Suite and regular balcony room. We do have four in our group and I know space is an issue. I'm just wondering with some port days being 14 hours, will we be in the room that much? Thanks so much.
jtl513 Posted January 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2012 If your four are all adults I would definitely stick with the SA. It has twice as much space.
canadianbear Posted January 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I agree, stay with the SA-lots more room. I take it the cruise you have booked doesn't have the discount for the 3rd/4th passengers?
Alaska_2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Canadianbear, it is $3319 for the first two and $296 for passengers 3 and 4. So yes, that is with the discount. Thanks for ya'lls input. :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 5, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2012 On the Zuiderdam -- 7042 is a VA not an SA -- BIG difference.
pms4104 Posted January 5, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2012 On the Zuiderdam -- 7042 is a VA not an SA -- BIG difference. Yes, and the deckplans do not show it to be a quad ... I surmise the OP quoted the wrong SA cabin number.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 5, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Let's hope so. Hope the OP comes back and straightens out everything.
euro cruiser Posted January 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2012 We were in 5004 on the Zuiderdam (same cabin, same location except on the port side rather than starboard) last January with three people. This year we have moved up to a deluxe verandah (on the Rotterdam, but same idea) specifically for the additional floor space; the basic verandah cabin was too small for three of us for ten days. jtl513 Posted January 5, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Yes, and the deckplans do not show it to be a quad ... I surmise the OP quoted the wrong SA cabin number. I agree. The difference between a VA and a VC would be about $100 pp for the first two.
Alaska_2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I typed the wrong number. It is SA 7054, near the Neptune Lounge.
djg541 Posted January 5, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 5, 2012 IMHO, stick with the superior suite. More room. have the concierge do your dining reservations, free laundry,no waiting for tenders.Tour booking preferences. You'll be glad you did. Alaska_2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I know the suite would be more comfortable. $4700 versus $7200 would just allow for more excursions. Like I said, I know Alaska is very port intensive and we will be in the room very little. Thanks!
canadianbear Posted January 5, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I know the suite would be more comfortable. $4700 versus $7200 would just allow for more excursions. Like I said, I know Alaska is very port intensive and we will be in the room very little. Thanks! It's obviously your decision and it sounds like you would rather save the money and use it on excursions. Personally, we did Alaska (4 of us) in the deluxe verandah suite twice and I would never put 4 in a regular verandah. Are you traveling with another couple to split the cost or are you all one family? If you are one family I can see why you would like the extra money for excursions but the difference in space was worth it for us. We were 4 in our family (not sharing with another couple) and we do not regret it. (hence, why we did it twice!) We really, really enjoyed the Neptune lounge and having the concierge make our dinner reservations, having high tea in our suite, free laundry, and I particularly loved breakfast in the Pinnacle. Truly, only you can make the decision. I never regretted ours so when you do make up your mind be happy with it.
Typhoon1 Posted January 6, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 6, 2012 Stick with the SA. The only thing better than that is PS.
