That night was our second formal night... and second Captain's Party. We spent it with Derrick and Jennifer's family.

We had watched these men walk through the dining room several times. The first night we noticed them, they had capes on. Turns out, they were spending six months on the ship. They were always escorted into the dining room by a crew member - I think their personal butler? They were dressed up very festive for Christmas Eve, so Rachel asked for a photo with them, and they gladly agreed. They had strong accents - I'm not sure where they were from.

The two gentlemen which you do not where they are from; The one to the right is a Danish hotel owner living in Malaga, Spain, the other is his partner, indian-Spanish. They do not dear to fly, so they started their cruise nov 07 in Malaga, Transatlantic, and they will be back in Mlaga in the spring, when Adventure returns to malaga after the eastbound transatlantic cruise. I think they said they would visit St. Thomas 18 times. I spoke to them on the transatlantic. They must have had tons of cloths with them ,because every night they came down to the lower level in the MDR, dressed up in new costumes every night, with wigs most of the times. One of the last nights, all the guest applauded them. It was a kind of enterainment to see these to guys arrive after all others were seated, and we waited to see them come down escorted by a female officer.

Wow, they must be the people to ask about what to do in each port! I think it's such a great way to spend the winter - warm weather, but changing scenery! I wonder what suite they are staying in...

We are booked on the 4-night Monarch of the Seas June 4. On the ship, we had actually booked a 7-night on the Freedom of the Seas, but it's a big group trip and they wanted a less-expensive option.

We haven't booked our Christmas cruise for next year, yet. I think we want to sail from Puerto Rico, again - either that or Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. There are more choices and larger ships in Ft. Lauderdale, but the weather isn't guaranteed to be as warm. If we want to do a B2B, though, that's probably our best choice for variety.

I've never been to Aruba, but would love to go! I think the other southern Caribbean itinerary includes Aruba as a port - maybe we'll go there, next year! :)

Ft lauderdale (port Everglades) is really convenient. The airport is 10 minutes from the port. Plus the area is nice. The airfares are generally cheaper into fll. As much as we love to use port Everglades, we really do want to try a cruise leaving San Juan. I think your review has definitely convinced us to do it in 2013. If you haven't been on allure or oasis you should look into them. They are a lot of fun!

I wonder if they will still be there on our cruise in March?

That's one of the reasons we'd like to try Fort Lauderdale - the Adventure (and Mariner... and Carnival Dream) is the biggest ship we've been on! Rachel really wants to go on the Allure. We could actually do a B2B Oasis/Allure - we'd just have to spend one night in Ft Lauderdale. Hmmm.... oh, the options!

loved your report. I've cruised 13 times all on DCL ships, but love reading reports from all cruise lines.

I LOVE Disney! Our first cruise was a Disney cruise, but we haven't been back, since. :( We first changed lines because we wanted more variety (at the time, they only had two ships sailing the Bahamas), but now we're older and my family is a little hesitant to go back for fear we will be outliers as a "grown" family.

However, we REALLY want to go on one of the new ships - the Dream or the Fantasy (probably the Fantasy because it sails 7-night itineraries). Honestly, it's the new ship-of-the-year that most appeals to me. Rachel, however, really wants to go on the Allure (I'm not sure how I feel about a ship that big...). She also really wants to go on the Dream. Or the Fantasy. Any cruise - she wants it. :D

Do you like Disney or can you stand Disney? If you do then you'll like cruising DCL. I've been on all ships so far and going on the Dream again in February before a work convention and I'm booked on Fantasy can't wait. If you have facebook feel free to add me I can tell you more about DCL for adults and young adults. I'm 23.

No, I LOVE Disney - it's an obsession. :D We visit the parks at least once a year - usually more. I can also tell you the entire history of the Walt Disney Corporation (yet American/World history has always been one of my worst subjects!).

then you'd most likely love it. I've cruised with DCL when I was 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23(still 23 till March). I like Disney, but I don't know it's history and I still love it. Dream is great I have like a million pictures and I will be writing a trip report about my cruise next month. Don't know if you post on the disboards but if so check out the cruise section and you can see my report. here are some I have written in the past.

Thank you for taking the time to post a fantastic review!

I sail on the Adventure in 3 weeks and your review has me over the moon excited!

I have two questions for you, would you by ANY chance have a copy of the cruise compass? I'm going on the same route! (Well, somewhat..our cruise is 7 days, not 8) And is there a Ben & Jerry's? I loved enjoying an ice cream each night on the Liberty :D
