42CruiseCrazy Posted June 18, 2012 #176 Share Posted June 18, 2012 I envy you going on a TA on the Breakaway. It looks like it will be a fabulous ship. You may wish to check out a Pre Xmas cruise on Carnival Miracle Dec. 16th that I will be on. It leaves from NYC and it a really good deal.
uncleg Posted June 18, 2012 #177 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Hi I'm Dwight, single, never married, no kids no pets age 46. I used to cruise with friends until it got to complicated to to plan around their schedules. I will be going on my 2nd solo cruise this year, and to tell the truth I have more fun without having to worry about my friends. I go with no expectations, if i meet a nice lady on board great, if not great.

Rambo1985 Posted June 19, 2012 #179 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Hi just found this thread I'm ray 26 from Liverpool uk, been on several cruises only been on one solo one when I was around 22. Making up for it though all my upcoming cruises bar one are solo. I've travelled with friends and family and probably will do in the future but I will also fit solo cruises in. I just love the fact that you can do what you want, when you want and you don't have to think about anybody else.

Daddysbaby Posted June 27, 2012 #184 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Hello Fellow Solo Travelers. Here is my story. I am 52 and single. I took my first solo cruise at 19 and have loved cruising ever since. I have taken a few cruises with friends over the years but the majority of my cruises are solo. For several years I have traveled solo at Christmas time. While there are a lot of families on board over the holidays, I have met other solo travelers like myself. I do not like to dine alone, so for several years now I have done the Anytime Dining which allows me the flexibility to eat with whom ever I want, whenever I want. On the nights when I walk into the dining room alone I always ask to sit at a large table - this can be a table of either 6, 8 or 10. One of my favourite things to do is to sit on my balcony drinking wine and reading a good book while soaking up the Vitamin D. I have spent many happy hours playing cards in the Casino enjoying the camaraderie of my fellow players and of course the Staff!! Do I wish that I had a significant other to share those sunsets with? You bet! But at least I get to enjoy those tropical sunsets! I hope to meet some of you on a future cruise - I’ll be the girl with the glass of red wine that’s never empty!!!!! Happy Cruising! NCMtnGal Posted July 1, 2012 #190 Share Posted July 1, 2012 Hello everyone. I've never cruised before and have just signed up for one. I didn't want to go completely solo so I opted for one of the "single hosted" cruises. I am single and don't go out to eat or to shows, etc. for the simple fact that I don't like going alone. Also having never cruised before I wasn't sure what would be offered for singles onboard. I love the water and travel so we will see how this works out for me. I might get up the nerve to go completely solo.
Floridagurrl Posted July 2, 2012 #191 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Hi all!!! I have been on my own for over 12 years now, but Dec 2012 will be my first Solo cruise. I have cruised with kids, family, parents, mom, GF's and now just ME!! I booked it as a pampering cruise.....well just because...LOL I am 55 retired early so GF do not have as flexible schedules, siblings still have kids to raise, parents no longer travel and I do not want to sit still. I'm looking forward to being solo, everytime I think about well maybe I should ask so and so I quickly (and yes selfishly) say NO!!! I want to just relax and be pampered and do as I please!!! I have never had any fear of being alone, I enjoy my own company, I can go or do whatever I please....Yaaay!! It gets expensive when you pay double, but for this trip it is worth it 15 days of whatever!! I know I will travel Solo again, I am eyeing a cruise in 2013 that is 19 days with a GREAT itinerary. I have not gone on any "singles" cruises as there seems to be an intent to meet someone and that is not my agenda. If it happens great, but in the meantime I am having a ball enjoying life as a Solo!!
Rambo1985 Posted July 2, 2012 #192 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Hi You will love going solo, especially if you enjoy your own company. Which cruise line are you going with and were abouts are you going?
MrFunInTheSun Posted July 2, 2012 #193 Share Posted July 2, 2012 Nice thread. 39 somewhat single here. :-) I've usually traveled With family or friends or gf. Coordinating times doesn't always work. I've always wanted to go on a cruise alone as at times when I went with others it was just a pain. Trying to get everyone to agree, etc. Guess it was a year and a half ago now I decided to finally go on a cruise alone. Let me tell you I had a great time. Only did a four day cruise. Happened to be during my birthday too which was even better. Although I seem to cruise every year at some point during that week. I've booked my 2nd solo cruise this November, I can't wait. Will be a 6 night this time. If the 7 or 8 night was available that week for the price i paid id do that. 6 night will work though. A friend or two said they may go, but am hoping they don't. If they do, they are getting there on room. I've got a 6 night for well under $500. That's even with the double occupancy rate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors. I'm so excited to go on my 2nd solo cruise, that I'm turning it into a semi back to back cruise. Am now going to go on the Sensation for three days out of Port Canaveral, then drive down to Ft Lauderdale and hope on the Freedom turning my six nights cruising to nine with a slight three hour drive in between. :-) It's still possible others will join the 6 day venture, but I'm not talking much about it to those that had interest in going. Hoping add will kick in and loose interest. That's so horrible of me to say. :-/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse typographical errors. Floridagurrl Posted July 3, 2012 #194 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Hi Rambo! I am on the Celebrity Eclipse 12-1-2012 Southern Caribbean. St Maarten, St Thomas, St Johns Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Bonaire, Aruba & 5 Sea days. I am really looking forward to it. I have visited a few of the islands on previous cruises, but this is a pamper me cruise (sounds all consuming selfishness) but you know what? It is about time...LOL I intend to hit the spa, the gym, the pool, shop and just "relax to the max" my new mantra...LOL I can chat up people if I so choose (not often as I do not want to feel obligated to "be on") I was in a profession that I had to "be on" all the time and after 25 yrs I am going to be off for a while...LOL I am happy to see there are so many others who prefer the solo aspect as well. I do not think we are particularly selfish or standoffish, just looking for true peace and quiet and valuable down time.
Rambo1985 Posted July 3, 2012 #195 Share Posted July 3, 2012 That sounds fantastic, that's one part of the world I haven't been but it's on my todo list. Lol sounds like you've already worked things out, in respect of what you want to do and I don't blame you. My upcoming cruise will be very much the same, 12 days from Dubai to Singapore with 6 sea days aboard the solictise, I intend to just sit back relax and take in the views. Hopefully we will both have great cruises.

C1nnabar Posted July 6, 2012 #197 Share Posted July 6, 2012 I'm 58, and I've been vacationing alone for so long that I'm not sure I'd know how to do it in company. Took my first cruise this year, and I loved it so much that I've already signed up for the next one (May 2013, Princess Alaska cruise from SF -- as far as I could tell the only San Francisco round trip that included Sitka, which is why I signed up so early). Last time (also to Alaska) I spent all my time seeing the sights (getting up between 4:30 and 5:00 every morning), and casual conversations at the buffet were almost my only social interactions, but next time there are four sea days, and I've done the nature-watching excursions I really wanted, so I expect to spend more time on shipboard activities, and maybe even meet people -- and wander through the towns in port, not travel to the next Scene of Great Natural Beauty. I signed up for traditional dining this time, so at least I'll be talking to the same people at dinner!

Rare Lois R Posted July 14, 2012 #200 Share Posted July 14, 2012 I'm quite happy with my own company, so I don't go out of my way to meet other singles. I go to the mdr for evening meal and most of the time I'm on my own but I love it. Hi,:) I so agree with you on point 1.....I can't think of any cruise where I look for other "Solo/Single/Unattached cruisers. If I happen to meet them? Fine...if not? I am good to go on my own so it doesn't matter.:D As for dining? I go to the main dining room as well but I do really enjoy sitting with other people:) but I don't care if they are solo.... as long as folks are friendly? That is much more important to me than what their status is....married, single, etc....I really don't care.
