amillard222 Posted January 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2012 So, we leave in 8 days on the Pride out of Baltimore and I am thinking that the first day or two will be a little chilly. We (hubby and I) plan on taking a couple of books but we were wondering if we should take any cards or games to keep us entertained? We will probably join in on some of the activities and stuff this time, we were really too overwhelmed to really do too much on our first cruise. Does Carnival usually have more inside activities when its cold out? What do you do on the days that it is too cool to lay out or swim? Either way we are going to have a blast! We have our first balcony so we will be sitting out there cold or not:D may need to bring a blanket with us...lol
Kwirky Posted January 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Hot tub! ;) Spa- especially if the ship has the serenity spa with the hot stone couches.

I suspect you'll be attending A LOT of shows and maybe trivias if you're into that. I would think the main pool which has a retractable roof will be a popular spot. I'm sure the Casino will be quite full as well. I'd definitely bring a blanket to enjoy your balcony.
MagSeven1413 Posted January 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Since we try not to cruise from 'northern' ports, the only chilly day that we experienced happened on our last cruise out of Tampa. The sea day prior to returning to Tampa was cool and breezy with off and on showers. To tell the truth, I don't remember what we ended up doing, but I can say this - I wasn't bored. I think I walked the ship taking as many interior photos as I could. Sorry if that wasn't much help, but there are plenty of things to do. (Not typing the following to put you down or belittle you, but expressions are tough to convey when typing a response on a message board) My DW and I have never relied on or expect Carnival to entertain us and we are never bored. Don't worry about things - you'll find something to occupy your time.

I actually pulled it up agian last week so that I could show hubby. Congrats on your engagment!! You are a beautiful couple. Ok this is going to sound like a stupid question, but oh well.....is the wind really bad on the balconys? I know that the wind is pretty bad up on the top decks and on the "secret" decks on the front of the ship but I was hoping that the balconys were sheltered a little because of the dividers. I thought about bringing blankets for us, but that is a lot of space in the suitcases so I am hoping that the room sterward will have something we can use. No worries Magseven, I am not offended:D We are happy with quiet time for just the two of us, and not really going to rely on Carnival to entertain us, its just going to be a different experiance from our first cruise where we knew that we would be able to lay out on the decks all day if we wanted. Hubby is active duty Army and the 3 days after we get back from our cruise he is flying our to Texas for 5 weeks and then home for a couple months and then up the Colorado for 5 weeks so we are going to enjoy our vacation as much as we can. I think I will copy you and take lots of inside photos, from what I have seen of the ship it is very pretty!

pafam4 Posted January 27, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Never sailed from a Northern port, but one time in the Western Caribbean we hit bad weather, not so much rain but lots of wind. We were asked to stay indoors, not up on deck. Believe me, Carnival FILLED the day with all kinds of activities...trivia, games, etc...we were so busy all day. So don't worry, you'll find something to do.

First off, thank you :o I'll give her all the credit for the beautiful couple thing though. The balcony was not windy at all (especially if sitting back in chairs). The upper decks will be pretty bad though. Don't expect to play mini golf until Tuesday or so. Our first cruise was Thanksgiving week (warmer than when you're going) and we weren't able to lay out until Tuesday and it was still cool out. But the thing about MD weather is you never know. I mean it's 62 today

Havingfun2010 Posted January 27, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2012 I went to Canada, and it was in June, and it was very chilly. I still sat outside, and did everything that I would normally do. I just dressed different and did not get a tan.
hn7609 Posted January 27, 2012 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2012 I am just back from the Christmas cruise on the Pride. There were no additional activities that I noticed the first sea days. No worries though you will find pleanty to do. By the second sea day the temp had risen considerably and we were out on the deck in loungers......you may be surprised at how quickly the temps will rise. Martini Mom Posted January 28, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2012 We bundle up, sit on deck, and listen to the live band. It feels like a private show. :)
9876 Posted January 28, 2012 #17 Share Posted January 28, 2012 I have been on the Pride sailing both in summer and winter. When we sailed they did not have any extra activities to compensate for the cold weather outside which I was surprised about. Inside activities were packed as they were not as plentiful as I personally thought they should be. On the bright side though the weather has been so mild this year it will probably be warm on deck sooner rather than later. If you want a blanket for the balcony just ask your stateroom attendant...they can provide one with no problem. I would go with your idea of books or games, always better to have them and not use them than not.
