ajenali Posted February 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2012 We cruise in 7 days.... :D my newbie cruiser friend showed me her bc yesterday and its not the nice pretty colorful one that i have. Its obviously a copy, but on card stock from the vital records office. it has the seal stating its a certified copy. black. no color whatsoever. it is an older bc. please put my mind at ease and tell me this will be accepted.
Chasey Posted February 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2012 I would call the cruise line directly.

The first copy of my BC was like that till it finally fell apart. The new one was on colored paper.
golfadj Posted February 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Mine is black and white and has the seal on it and never a problem. Since we now both have passports easier to use them.

Some states don't have the colorful ones if you obtain a copy from them. As long as it is an official birth certificate issued by the Office of Vital Records she will be fine. I used my bc on my last cruise and it is very similar to what you are describing your friends to be.
whisker2193 Posted February 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 29, 2012 is it a raised seal? Or just a copy of the seal? Might make a difference. I would call the cruiseline directly as another poster has suggested.
retiredgram Posted February 29, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 29, 2012 If your friend takes her BC to a Post Office that takes applications for passports, they will be able to tell her immediately if it is the right BC.
5waldos Posted February 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 29, 2012 You should see my marriage licence from Chicago- looks like one of those slips of advertising that you get put under your windshield. Pretty does not equate with official. Thanks heavens- hate to discover now that we hadn't been married for lo these many years!
Rare finoky Posted February 29, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 29, 2012 If it is a certified copy from the Vital Records office then it will be acceptable.
laumicmah Posted February 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 29, 2012 I just got a passport for my April cruise, but have used my BC on all my past cruises. Mine is a black and white copy (old and not the best copy either) that has a raised seal and it has always worked. I used it to get my passport too. cruzinlisa Posted February 29, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 29, 2012 My original birth certificate was black and white with a seal. Then I had to order a replacement a few years ago and it came on blue paper with a watermark. When I got DD's birth certificate last year, it was black and white with a seal. We live in different states so that doesn't mean that much, except to say that sometimes even within the state, they change how they look.
