Perks in an AB Penthouse on the Dawn

Could someone fill me on on what the AB Penthouse suites are like on the Dawn? Are there perks that you receive that you wouldn't get in a lower catagory? Also, if we booked a joining mini suite would the rest of our family be able to enjoy the perks if any? I'm seriously considering upgrading to this and would appreciate any and all info.

hi

i am planning on doing the same thing .... i have an ab and my mother in law and sister in law have the adjoining af cabin and they plan on dining in with us on some days.

how should we handle the tips for the adjoining cabin? for the butler.

should the adjoining af minisuite people tip the butler only after each time the butler is utilized. like when they join us for insuite dining or should they

just tip like i am going to do. i plan on tipping my butler at the end of the cruise for my ab cabin. should the adjoining af cabin tip for the whole cruise even if they dont use the butler everyday or just as the bulter is utilized per time?

what would you do?

we sail on may 1st on the dawn

:) Hi! We just got off the Dawn yesterday, we had an EXCELLENT cruise!!! We (my DH, DD and myself) were in cabin # 11020, which is an AB Penthouse. Our Butler was Lani, she is wonderfull, she brought us breakfast every morning and my DD used her frequently for room service. We requested things for breakfast that were NOT on the menu and she got them for us, like Eggs Benedict, French Toast, Pancakes, etc.... She also got my DD some special treats that were not on the menu either...Lani is a lovely woman, if you get her as your Butler, I hope you think as highly of her as we do!

An AB Penthouse is truly a WONDERFULL, BEAUTIFULL cabin. It is spacious and well appointed. I am sure you will be throughly impressed. You will probably have some "quirky" paintings in your cabin. We had a very "unusual" mix of sea scapes and paintings that I called "The Rat Pack", four men walking along a beach wearing suits. I named them all, there was Frank, Peter, Sammy and Dean. VERY ecclectic taste in art......

Yes, from what I have read, you WILL be able to include your fellow AF Mini-Suite companions in your breakfasts etc.....

The room comes with a cordless phone, you can call your Butler or the cabin (to check on your "moody" pre-teen......)

The bathroom is PHENOMINAL!!!! Large and spacious, with two sinks, a spa tub with a large window to look out onto the water, with a flat screen TV above, a walk-in shower with a full length window looking out onto the water and a toilet behind a glass door. There is are TV's in the master bedroom and living room, large ones with DVD players and a smaller TV in the tiny bedroom, which also has its own small bathroom.

We LOVED our AB!!! I could have just stayed in there all week, no problem.... But, there was LOTS to explore and do!!! All the restaurants were great, I will write a review in a few days.

If you have ANY questions, please ask.

How large is the balcony in that particular AB cabin? I have read that the divider between 2 connecting cabins can be removed to create one large balcony with a connecting cabin in the regular balcony cabins. Can this be done with these as well? My parents will be in the mini suite connecting cabin and it would be nice to be able to do this if it's possible.

hi the balcony is the same size as the outside balcony cabins. normaly you would have double the balcony size as a regulal balcony but

half the bacony space it taken up by the large bathroom. if this makes any sense. so you end up with the same size balcony as the other cabins. i think its 48 sq feet. and i have asked about opening up the balconys and yes you can open the 2 together.

I also just got off the Dawn. Stayed in an AB Penthouse named the Diamond Suite and it sure was! Because my in-laws traveled with us and we were staying in a Penthouse, they were able to get some perks as us. They booked in a Mini-Suite. In NY we entered the VIP entrance together and were escorted to our Cabins by our Butler, Lanie. To be perfectly honest, if you booked in a lower catagory than the Penthouse, you will not be treated as a special guest. We were invited to a reception with the Captain -- not to be missed. It was lovely, all the woman and men were dressed to the T. There were suits and evening gowns and dressy outfits. Even the children were wearing jackets and ties. My sons just loved it. I was sooo spoiled that we booked our next cruise in a Penthouse. Cookieeater

:)I agree with you 100% about the Captain's Night. EVERYONE looked SMASHING!!! Did you see the lovely young woman in the gold gown (she was the "International" Hostess), she looked like Cinderella, I told her too.

We had some lovely conversations with lots of "important" people, got lots of cards too....

How did you get VIP embarkation in NYC??? When I asked a man, an NCL employee, he said there were no extra's for us in that department, I even showed him our tickets. When you entered the building in NYC, did you go to the right or the left? It really didn't matter, it was nice talking to everyone in line. To bad all the food was AFTER you passed through security, we were hungry and all the food was being put away!!.... Oh well, we enjoyed the "Sail Away" Bar-B-Q!!!

Isn't an AB just a FABULOUS cabin?!?! My Mom was yapping at me how we were wasting our money, you won't be in our cabin much, etc, etc..... She would have been "singing a different tune" if she had seen the AB!!!! We enjoyed it VERY much, my DD "holed" up in there most of the week, (she is almost 13, we can't "make" her do anything.....) If I had never seen an AB, if I had never had the opportunity to stay in one, I guess an AF would have been just fine, but, now that I KNOW that an AB is SO GREAT, I don't think I could ever stay in anything less, I have been completely and totally spoiled (and this being my first cruise in 33 years....) For me, it was having such a luxury on a cruise ship, SPACE, we didn't feel tight, cramped, or closed in, it really was glorious. And that bathroom, WELL, THAT was something else too...... It is bigger then the one I have at home, need I say more......

I have one question, do YOU feel like you are "rolling":o ? I have had this sensation since Sunday when we got off the ship. Is this normal?????

My view - tipping is a personal thing. The butler service is for your cabin and they are your guests. If you plan to tip in a lump sum at the end you could have the others add their tip to the evelolope. That is how I would do it.

For me it gets a bit uncomfortable with people pulling out $10 bills over dinner in the suite. If you plan to tip as you go I would pool the money and do it with a single thank you.

I did tip at time of service when I had the butler set up aand help for a party in the suite. He did a wonderful job and made the party very easy for me.

A colleague at work had a penthouse suite on a NCL ship (it wasn't the Dawn). I asked her about the upgraded service she received, and some of what she said doesn't jive with what I'm reading here. Please clarify for me, so I know what to expect.

She wrote: "you get two free bottles of booze, not wine or beer". Could that have been a gift from her TA? No one on the posts mentions anything other than a bottle of champagne.

She wrote: "you can get unlimited sodas without having to pay for a soda ticket". Is this true? If so, how does this work?

She wrote: "if we wanted to have our meals brought in, the butler did that". Is that only from the upgraded room service menu, or is that from the different restaurants on the ship?

I'm booked into a penthouse on the Star. I would think that the standards of service in the suites would be consistent between the NCL ships. Thanks!!!:)

My parents had the penthouse suite and we shared the perks from different areas of the ship. You don't even need an adjoining room.

We're in an AE penthouse. So I then I should not expect what my colleague got? What is the difference in perks between a penthouse and an owner's suite? Thanks for the info!

Stayed in an ae on the Star.

No bottles of booze........... 1 bottle of champagne.

Snackies every day around 5p

Menu service in your room as well as, from Vers. and Aqua. The Butler will accept "special" requests;) Had all kinds of breakfast food brought in.

The service is the same as the Dawn. If you get our butler and concierge, they are excellent.

Suesan, Once we entered the terminal entrance, we were directed to keep left, if boarding the ship. When we reached the NCL representative at the front of the line, we informed her that we were Penthouse guests and she directed us to the Priority Line. It was that easy. We proceeded to the security entrance, had our passports checked and placed on the next available NCL check-in counter. Lanie than escorted us onto the ship. I have to say it took us approximately 25 minutes from the time we entered the terminal to boarding the ship. We all proceed to the Venetian for a lovely lunch and then headed up to the Pool and enjoyed the warm afternoon and the BBQ. Wasn't leaving NYC beautiful? We stayed in the Diamond Suite also near the elevators and it was quite convenient for all. My in-laws stayed in an AF-mini-suite, mid-ship. They enjoyed having afternoon snacks with us, in our room. Wasn't Lanie SUPER. Whatever my sons wanted, she found it for them. I miss her! Also, Ruth was helpful with reservations and obtaining Priority tender tickets to GSC. While on the ship, we booked our next cruise on the Jewel during spring break 2006. Of course, Penthouse Suite! I didn't see the International Hostess. All the guests I saw looked lovely. It was so nice to get dressed up! I would like to see one formal night on the cruise that is not optional. While at the first art auction, I won the raffle. It was exciting!

Nessi- Site perks vary somewhat from ship to ship. On the Crown in an AB suitewe gor 3 bottles of liquor and our fridge was stocked all week with soda and water. From what I've read this will not be the case on teh Dawn this August.

I agree. Last year, our butler would not accept any tips. We waited until the end of the cruise and wrote him a note and enclosed the tip. We did the same for concierge.

Also, people pulling out $10 over dinner is like observing people in restaurants all throwing their money into the pot when the bills arrives! UGH!

Just relax and enjoy your cruise...it all works out in the end.

If you are on the Dawn, you could not ask for a better perk than "Ruth" the Consierge. She is the best. She may be going over to the Jewel in June. A definite asset. She and Klaus, the hotel director, make quite a team to make sure the trip is awesome.
