Western liberty review march 24, 2012 with a great friendship formed

Recommended Posts

Later, we went back to the room and just relaxed for a while before taking showers and getting ready for the Steakhouse.

Customer Service called again and told us that we could pick out a picture that we liked and they would put the embarkation background on it.

We had about 30 minutes so we went up to the Lido deck to get me some coffee so I could warm up. This ship was really cold!

After we got the coffee, we stepped out to the naughty room where there were 4 girls in their bathing suits all smoking and standing in front of the ashtray. They looked at us like we had three heads because we were all dressed up I guess. We actually dress up every night and we did get some strange looks when it wasn’t formal night. To each their own. We enjoy dressing up.

Anyway, Hubby excused himself, when he stepped in front of the girls, to use the ashtray. We finished and decided to go to the Photo Shop to find some pictures and possibly pick out one for the embarkation. We found some pictures and decided to come back after dinner.

Now, when Hubby made the reservations for the Steakhouse, he was told emphatically that no jeans were allowed. Hubby told her not to worry that we didn’t even have a pair of jeans with us.

When we arrived, we were brought to our table – a table for 4! Ok, ok, but it was next to the window, I thought. I love opening the blinds and watching the sunset as we have our dinner. So I asked for the blinds to be open. The server opened the blinds and there right outside the window was a….staircase! No, no, no, you can shut the blinds. Not a great location for the steakhouse.

Please don’t ask what the names of our servers were because we were never told.

During dinner we noticed that a family of 5 came in and sat near us. Everyone was dressed nice but dad had on a very bummy pair of levi’s with a casual shirt. Just thought that was weird especially after the lecture that Hubby got when he made the reservation. Anyway, more on this in a bit.

Hubby noticed right away that the 24oz porterhouse was no longer on the menu. Honestly, it’s no big deal as that is way to much meat for one person anyway.

Hubby had French onion soup, which he found to be a bit salty, Caesar salad and the new york strip.

I had the lobster bisque, tomatoes with cheese and the surf & turf.

Hubby had the cheesecake for dessert but nothing for me – I was stuffed!

The food was very good. We always enjoy the Steakhouse.

Compliments of the Chef - cold tomato soup and salmon appetizer - the same as the last time...They really need to change things up more often - maybe like the shows

That was the first thing I noticed as well. :D:p It really is HUGE but I really enjoyed it on my honeymoon.

Really enjoying your review. Living vicariously through you and your hubby right now since I have over 1 year to go!!!:(

When we were done, Hubby wanted to stop at the hostess desk to inquire as to why he was so sternly told no jeans and yet there were 2 others that night with jeans on. The hostess kind of snapped at Hubby and said it was casual night. Later, we looked on our confirmation reminder card and it clearly says dress code – cruise elegant. I guess elegant has many different meanings to everyone. Did it ruin our dinner? Absolutely not. It was just an inquiry.

We left the Steakhouse and made our way to the Photo Shop.

While we were looking an older couple looked at me and the woman asked me if it was “dress up” night. I said no and she wanted to know why we were dressed up. Hubby just told her it is what we enjoy doing. She looked at us strangely and we walked away.

We found a picture that would work for the embarkation picture. It was the group shot from the meet & greet before sail away. It was the closest we would get. We had to talk with Omar, the Photo Manager, but when we asked for him, we were told that he would not be there until after 9pm so I decided to come back after to take care of the picture.

We went to the casino and tried to play 3 card poker but the table was full so I played slots while Hubby played BJ.

Around 9pm I went down to the Photo Shop and asked for Omar. I told him who I was and he knew what I needed. I gave him the picture and he told me to come back the following night and it would be ready.

I don't understand people's issues with other cruisers dressing up on casual nights or every night. I enjoy seeing others dressed up. Not only that but it's your vacation why do they care if you are dressed up or not, they should be happy you're enjoying your cruise. Glad you guys take advantage of your vacation and have the best time possible.

Really enjoying your review!

I went back to the casino and sat down at the BJ table with Hubby. There was no one else at the table and I lit up a cigarette. The dealer immediately told me that I had to play in order to smoke so I went back to the slots for awhile. It’s always a hit or miss with the smoking rules in the casino.

Great Review! We will be on Liberty this Thanksgiving and I can hardly wait!

We love dressing up for dinner as well. I rented my DH a tux for both elegant nights and my DDs loved seeing Daddy as "007". We always had cruise elegant attire on for dinner and couldn't believe some of the tight, hoochy-mama ensembles that young women decked themselves in for the evening. Plus guys with tired jeans and t shirts on in the MDR. Whatever.

You and your DH looked very snazzy! Beautiful dress!

Looking forward to more reading about your cruise and the great pics!

Around 11:30pm I actually was getting bored with the machines so Hubby and I went to the up to the room to call it a night. We noticed that our mystery cabin steward never replaced our beach towels and we surely would need them for tomorrow in Roatan. We decided to get them in the morning.

Before we went to bed, we put a room service request on the door for coffee and bagels. We were supposed to be in Roatan from 7am-3pm and this being our favorite port, we wanted to make the very most of it. I wrote 7am for the delivery time.

Sometime between 2-3am we were woken up by our neighbors on their balcony. We later found out that the 3 rooms after us were traveling together and they had opened the dividers between the 3 balconies. We waited for a bit to see if they would settle down but no such luck. Hubby got up and stuck his head out of the balcony door and said “people are trying to sleep next door.” At this point, we were both pretty aggravated in that we have yet to have a good night’s sleep. Luckily they must have gone inside after that because we didn’t hear them anymore.

Day 5 – Roatan

At 6am there was a knock on the door. Hubby got up and it was our coffee and bagels. It was still dark so Hubby just put the tray on the table and went back to bed. Not too sure how the time got messed up – possibly someone changed the time on our request? Wouldn’t surprise us one bit.

We got up around 7am and had our coffee and bagels on the balcony while the ship was pulling into port. By the time the announcement was made that people could leave the ship it was closer to 8am.

Hubby went into the hallway and tracked down someone to get 2 beach towels. We packed up our things and went down to get off the ship.

We went through a few of the shops at the port and then walked over to the zipling. I really wanted to do this as I had read that it was great for beginners. One of the employees told us all about it and showed us the lines. While we were standing there some of the other employees zipped by so I was able to see how fast it goes and the height. He said that the whole experience, including the ride up to the top and back was 45 minutes. The price was $40 per person. He even told me that someone could ride with me until I felt comfortable enough to go by myself.

I was all set to do it and he gave us the authorization form to initial and sign. Of course I had to read the whole thing and it said if you have anxiety, heart problems, back problems, etc. you had to initial those areas so they wouldn’t be held liable for anything. Well…..after reading that, I just wasn’t as ready as I thought. Maybe in September when we go back.

We headed over to the beach and walked the little nature trail off the road. We did notice that the grounds were not as kept up as usual. We found two chairs right by our normal palm tree and Hubby went to get 2 rafts.

When he came back he said we may not be getting any rafts because they had all been reserved. One of the servers told him that he would try to find two for us and bring them over.

It wasn’t long after that he came over with 2 rafts – perfect!

Frank & Linda showed up and the two chairs next to us were open so we were very happy that they planted themselves right there.

We ordered some drinks and a snack tray and spent a lot of time in the water. It was an absolutely perfect day with perfect friends!
