Western liberty review march 24, 2012 with a great friendship formed

Recommended Posts

While I was in the water I stepped on something. I reached down and pulled it out of the water. It was a conch shell. Wow, I thought it was so cool so I put it on the raft. Shortly after I realized that this was someone’s home because he started coming out to say hi. I kept him long enough to take some pictures and then I went way out and threw him pretty far so he’d be safe.

CC'64....great review of your stops. Wow! how empty the ship looked in Belize! Were the swings still there on the wooded path to MB beach? I do hope you take a "tour" of Roatan in the fall, when you come back. It's beautiful island and there are great other areas for the beach. SIL wants to "retire " here as well. Lots of Canadans live in the West End/Sandy Bay area, BTW. There's a growing ex-pat community of Americans too.

NY Strip is usually more than enough for me, but am tempted to try the 5 spice rubbed ribeye. Was it the picture angle of was the cheesecake at the Steakhouse actually smaller than before? Guess I'll have to test it out in 7 days when we're in there.:)

I'm loving your review and pictures. Looks like you had a great cruise. Thanks for that info regarding the long distance phone calls. We are going on a cruise and our kids are staying with family, so its nice to know I can phone them and talk to them.

Thanks and you're welcome. $1.99 really is a pretty good price for calling back to the states. It's normally $2.49 per minute from your cell phone while at sea. Every little bit helps.

DW was happy to see that you did do your toes again. You told me last review that you would. :D

I really wasn't going to but Hubby wanted me to so I went the day before we left and had them done. They didn't really do a good job so I went back and they redid them. The second time I was happy.

That was the first thing I noticed as well. :D:p It really is HUGE but I really enjoyed it on my honeymoon.

Really enjoying your review. Living vicariously through you and your hubby right now since I have over 1 year to go!!!:(

Thanks. Yes Hubby said the Porterhouse was really too much although he ate the whole thing on the Legend in September ;)

I don't understand people's issues with other cruisers dressing up on casual nights or every night. I enjoy seeing others dressed up. Not only that but it's your vacation why do they care if you are dressed up or not, they should be happy you're enjoying your cruise. Glad you guys take advantage of your vacation and have the best time possible.

Really enjoying your review!

Thanks. I agree, but this was the first time we actually got weird looks for dressing up. Most of the time we have been complimented on how well we match each other. This time it was like we were doing something wrong or odd. Just don't get it, but we'll still do the same thing on future cruises.

Hubby is a UPS driver and wears the same uniform to work everyday and I wear scrubs so any chance to spice things up and we're all over it.

Great Review! We will be on Liberty this Thanksgiving and I can hardly wait!

We love dressing up for dinner as well. I rented my DH a tux for both elegant nights and my DDs loved seeing Daddy as "007". We always had cruise elegant attire on for dinner and couldn't believe some of the tight, hoochy-mama ensembles that young women decked themselves in for the evening. Plus guys with tired jeans and t shirts on in the MDR. Whatever.

You and your DH looked very snazzy! Beautiful dress!

Looking forward to more reading about your cruise and the great pics!

I LOVE IT!! The hoochy-mama thing was so funny! We say the same thing. It's as if they have some sort of funny mirror in their cabin.

Thanks for the compliments.

The swings are still there and no, the cheesecake was not smaller. It must have been the angle. Hubby had a few bites and he was waving the white flag again

We went to our room and went out on the balcony to watch everyone getting on board. The ship was scheduled to leave at 3pm and there were still people wandering out of the store at 3:15pm.

Then the stupidest thing happened – although it was pretty funny watching it from our room. A young guy (maybe around 20) was very close to the front of the line when he decided to jump off the pier into the water. He swam over to the rocks and disappeared in the woods.

After our entertainment, we took showers and got ready for the evening. We checked the menu on the TV and decided to skip the MDR tonight.

When the casino opened we wanted to play 3 card poker so we made our way to the table and sat down. That game seems to be very popular and if you don’t get there early for a seat, chances are you won’t get to play that night.

We played for a while and then decided that we needed to eat something so we went to the Lido deck and got a turkey sandwich.

Bye, bye Roatan - see you in September

We returned to the casino and we both played slots for quite a while.

About 9pm, we both got hungry again so we thought we’d go get a slice of pizza. Unfortunately the area leading out to the back pool where the pizza is was blocked off. We asked and they said to just move the chairs, so we did. However, when we got to the pizza station there was a sign that said it was closed and moved to midship. Off to midship and we were told that the pizza was not ready yet – they needed 8-10 minutes. We walked to the other side where the Deli was and decided we really did not want that so we went back to where the pizza was.

When the pizza was ready they put a couple of slices on plates and we took them and found a place to sit and eat. Aaahhhh….just what we wanted…cold pizza! Oh well!

Around 11:00pm I told hubby I had hit the wall! He said that he would be up shortly so I went up ahead of him. It wasn’t long after that Hubby came up but I was long gone by then and he thought he would be cute and take a picture of me sleeping with JP – still a kid at heart!:o

carncruise1964 - I don't want to interrupt your review (loving it)... but would love to hear more details about the beach you visited in Roatan. It looks like a place we'd enjoy on our December cruise!! The name? Is it walking distance from where ship is docked? Is there an entrance fee? Anything other helpful info is appreciated!! :)

And what would the night be without some sort of interruption? Tonight was no different. Sometime during the middle of the night we woke up to a girl screaming profanities up and down the hallway. Apparently, she really was upset with someone and she said she f……. hated them over and over and over!!!

It lasted for a bit but someone must have called security rather quickly because it was taken care of.

We didn't get off the ship in Belize. The beach that I just posted was Roatan. The ship docks right there. You walk off the ship and it's about a five minute walk to the beach. There is no entrance fee and it is absolute paradise. There are many other things to do and see on this island but Hubby and I prefer to just do this beach.

There are also shops right off the pier and a Fat Tuesday there and also at the beach area.

We did the the Tabyana Beach Break excursion in 2009 and that was really nice, however, we feel that the beach at Mahogany Bay is nicer and FREE.

Just keep looking through the threads on CC for different ideas on things to do in each port. It's always nice when people post pictures so you can get a better feel for what to expect.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask anything else.
