Western liberty review march 24, 2012 with a great friendship formed

Recommended Posts

Linda and Frank joined the table and then the real fun began. Linda watched for a while and then Frank had to use the restroom. Linda sat in his seat and decided to play. Good thing she did because she hit a Royal Flush!! She got trips not long after that! OMG, we had so much fun. By the end of the night, all four of us had gotten a royal flush or trips at least once. It was just the four of us at the table at the end and we all walked away with a good amount of money.

Tonight was the second formal night. We went to dinner and were in and out in 45 minutes. Neither one of us were all that hungry. I honestly don't even remember what we ate and I didn't take any pictures. Sorry. The MDR had become a huge disappointment to us this cruise.

This is a really good picture. I like the matching colors, you two compliment each other well.

Around 7am we started hearing Karl with a K making announcements that self check out was ready to begin. WOW! They are starting pretty early.

We got our things together, checked the room one more time and headed up to the Lido deck for breakfast. Got our normal scrambled eggs and walked to the Guy’s Burger area where we knew Frank and Linda would be. Sure enough they were there so we sat and ate and talked for a short time. Sadly, we had to finally say our goodbyes but did discuss cruising together again next spring.

We made our way to the deck to disembark and were off the ship in no time.

It took us about 15 minutes to find our luggage and make our way to the customs line.

This is where everything halted. We stood in line for almost an hour. The customs agent for our line led someone away and was gone for about 15 minutes so our line did not move. The other lines really were not moving all that quickly either. Finally, the guy came back and very slowly we started moving.

When we approached the desk, we handed our form, ID’s and passport cards to the agent. He looked at them and said Michele very suddenly. I looked at him and said “yes.” He said nothing else and just handed our cards back to us and said we were all set. Hubby said he was just checking that one of us would respond if he said one of our names. Never had that happen before but kind of freaked me out.

We took all of our luggage to the parking garage and loaded the car. After paying for the parking, we drove by the drop off area for our ship and Frank and Linda were there waiting for their shuttle to pick them up. Hubby laid on the horn and we all waved.

For some reason, Hubby made a wrong turn and ended up having to go all the way back around the parking garage and by the drop off again. Perfect, now I could get a picture of Frank and Linda. It was really funny to see their faces when we drove by again.

Anyway, we were finally on our way home at 9:30am.

Final thoughts – We had a fantastic cruise but found the layout of this class of ship a bit confusing.

We were very disappointed that we never once saw or met our room steward and none of the servers (MDR & Steakhouse) introduced themselves to us. We love getting to know our servers and always try to involve ourselves with the dancing but this time we didn’t have that feeling so the dinners that we did go to were very quick. Yes, it was our choice to have quick dinners, but we just didn’t get the normal friendly feeling.

With the exception of some servers, dealers & pitbosses in the casino, we found most of the staff did not say hi as you passed them and they seemed to be in a hurry all the time. It seemed that getting their job done was more important than the old fashioned customer service.

There was a night that we were leaving the MDR and a server came up behind us with an empty tray and just swerved in and out of us, never said excuse me and disappeared in the kitchen.

The photographers that took our pictures seemed to rush through as well. I attribute this as to why we were not happy with how the pictures came out. Usually we have a hard time deciding which ones to buy because we like them all.

Food was good but again, nothing exceptional. Guy’s Burgers were good – and so much better than the old Carnival Burger – but still just a burger to us.

The Burrito Bar was really good and we wish we had tried it earlier in the week so we could have had it again. We also were not aware that they served breakfast burritos. I guess we never looked at the hours or menu that well.

We did not get a basket from Player’s Club this time but we did have $1,250 (yes, I said $1,250) waiting for us at the cage so we figured it was a pretty even trade. (lol)

But by far the best part of this cruise was meeting Linda and Frank, such a wonderful couple that we had so much fun with. We cannot wait to see them again!

That's it for this review. I may post some additional pictures tomorrow but otherwise if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm surprised Hubby hasn't stepped in and made any comments thus far, however, he's been crazy busy at work. I'm sure you'll be hearing from him soon.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments and as always, I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this review.

Update: I have purchased an e-cig and have been using it alternatively for the past 2 days and I feel it is going to work for me. Hubby says he is just going to quit. Wish us luck! ;)

Have you tried chantix to stop smoking? My husband had a 3 pack a day habit for over 25 years and has been a non-smoker for 3 years now with the help of chantix. It truly was a miracle drug for him!! He took it for 12 weeks and that was it. It really increased our quality of life!

It always amazes me that people don’t think there is anything wrong with this.

I know what I'm about to say is practically punishable by death on this board , but the reason people continue to do this is 100% on the cruise line. If they are going have policies, they must make SOME attempt to occasionally enforce them. Until doing so, people will continue to just follow what others are doing and it will get worse, not better.

OMG!!! Who do you work for, if you don't mind me asking. So funny how close we are. We live in North Port and I work in Port Charlotte.

I work for North Port Primary Care...Dr. G. Patel. We are in Bobcat Village. Who do you work for??

I don't understand people's issues with other cruisers dressing up on casual nights or every night. I enjoy seeing others dressed up. Not only that but it's your vacation why do they care if you are dressed up or not, they should be happy you're enjoying your cruise. Glad you guys take advantage of your vacation and have the best time possible.

Really enjoying your review!

In fairness this should cut both directions though. As no one should care if others are dressed up, likewise, it should not matter to anyone if there are people that are more casual than perhaps the "rules" suggest (barring anything really inappropriate or vulgar of course). Basically, who cares what others are doing provided they are not negatively impacting me.

AWESOME review! I can't wait to June 2nd....I hope I get to meet some fun people on board! I'm going with my future sister in law, my almost 21 yr old daughter and her best friend, my 17 yr old son and my 9 yr old son. Unfortunately, my fiancé can't take time off since he owns his own business (Bobs Lock & Key in PC)...FYI...I case you ever need a locksmith :)..so, it's just the crew with me.

You have really done an outstanding job on the review and I can't wait to share this with my kids to get them pumped!!! Thank you!

What the OP stated was that they received negative/questioning commentary from fellow cruisers about their attire and if it shouldn't matter, then they should have kept their opinions to themselves.

I will always have my "hoochie-mama" alert on, but it doesn't mean I'm going to confront these fashion-lacklusters. Well, not yet, until I start my own website that highlights "hootchie-mama" attire. :)
