Western liberty review march 24, 2012 with a great friendship formed

Recommended Posts

Back on the ship, we went to our room and showered and changed for the evening.

While Hubby was in the shower, I went to the internet café and checked my mail and then went back to the room.

We decided to open the bottle of Asti and drank most of it while watching the tenders finish before the ship departed Grand Cayman at 6pm.

Once the ship was on its way, we made our way to casino. I decided that I would play BJ with Hubby again.

*We have pretty much had the same two servers taking care of us all week in the casino. They knew what we drank and were very attentive to us. They even signed our receipt for us several times.

With that said, when we sat down at the BJ table Hubby asked for a server. The gentleman that came over was someone neither one of us had seen before. Hubby started telling him what he wanted (Captain Morgan, single shot, with diet coke & a lime in a big soda glass) and then said times 2, meaning one for each of us. The server said “so you want double shot?” No, and Hubby went through it again. The server again said “ok, double shot.” Gggrrrrrr……. Let’s try this again. Hubby went through it one more time and I “think” he got it. So, Hubby showed him the drink cards and told him both of our folio numbers. Nope, that wasn’t good enough. The server got kind of snippy and said “no, you give me card!!” Oh Boy!!!!! Hubby grabbed the cards and told him he didn’t want a drink and told him to leave. Nora and I just stared at each other like “what just happened?” No one wanted to speak. It was kind of awkward for a moment and then Nora called another server over and ordered us drinks. This one got it right away and was back in no time with our drinks.

Now before any of you jump on this, Hubby felt really bad and tried to apologize to him but we never saw him again. Nora told us that Hubby didn’t need to apologize and that the server was rude and should not have acted that way. But Hubby still felt bad.

There was one dealer that dealt to us that constantly had a frown on his face. His name was Serge and he actually made happy gestures when the table lost to him. He was very fast and stern and went through everyone’s hands telling them what they had but seemed to say the wrong number sometimes. For instance, one hand he dealt to me, he told me I had 17 when I counted 15. I said “excuse me?” And he would yell, 15 MAAM!! The guy sitting next to me said “he’s pretty mean isn’t he?” Well, needless to say, we didn’t have him as a dealer again.

We headed up to bed around 2:30am.

Sarasota here. Thanks for another great review once again. Always enjoy reading about your Carnival travels.

This review held special interest, as we are traveling on the Liberty May 12th. Planned this immediately following a ship's tour last year.

Congrats on trying to quit smoking. Did that over 20 years ago, and could not be happier. Just don't give in.

Thanks neighbor! Enjoy your upcoming cruise and thanks for the support on quitting ;)

Day 7 – Sea Day

I woke up around 7:30am and decided to go up to the Lido deck to get some coffee and a couple of bagels to bring back to the room. Hubby never even heard me get up or leave or even come back. I guess he was pretty tired.

Hubby woke up around 8:30am and was a little slow moving. He told me that if I had that much energy the next day, I’d be driving home, ha,ha!

We had our coffee and bagel on the balcony and relaxed for a while before getting dressed and going up to the Lido deck for a proper breakfast.

We went to the buffet and just got the scrambled eggs and French toast and headed out to Guy’s Burger area. Frank & Linda were sitting out there and invited us to sit with them, which we did. We ate and talked for a while before venturing to find a couple of chairs. The chair hogs were out in full force today and there was not one chair available anywhere midship so we went to the back where the jogging track was and found some seats there.

We put out our towels and got comfy, however, it wasn’t long before the whale tail blocked the sun and it became very chilly and windy. So much so that we grabbed our stuff and decided to go down to the shops to look around. I didn’t see anything so Brad went to the casino and I went to the internet café.

I never used all my minutes. I think I still had 20 minutes to use but I still think it was cheaper than paying by the minute.

The back of the ship had more chair hogs as well.

This is where we finally sat, but I think chairs around the jogging track is not a great idea.

After, I joined Hubby in the casino and waited for the slot tournament to begin. We played and didn’t even come close to being in the finals. For some reason I had a craving for a bloody mary so I ordered one in the casino, taking advantage of the drink card.

We decided that it was time for lunch so we went to try the Blue Iguana Burrito Bar. We both got chicken burrito’s and thought they were very good. We saw Frank while we were eating and asked him to join us. He was looking for Linda. Throughout the week, we had seen Frank many times looking for Linda and it became pretty funny.

While we were in line to order our burrito’s we saw someone walk by with some type of chocolate covered fruit. Normally that doesn’t interest me as I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. But this looked so good we had to find out where it came from. After we ate, we went inside of Emile’s and found the Chocolate Extravaganza. There was pineapple & melon pieces, donuts, banana fritters and many other types of chocolate pies and cakes. The banana fritters were out of this world. OMG, I had to go back and get another one. And if you add a little chocolate…oh, unbelievable!

I wanted to lay out after, so Hubby helped me find a chair. Yep, we could only find 1 chair, mid ship. That was fine because Hubby didn’t want to lay out. He got me all situated and went back to the casino. I told him I would be down there in about an hour. Well, an hour that I planned to lay in the sun turned into 2 because I fell asleep. :o When I woke up I gathered my things and went to the room.

I decided that I would pack up some things just to get started. After I went to the Photo Shop to look at all the pictures one more time to make sure that there were no other pictures that I want to buy. Still didn’t like any of them so I left and went to the casino, where Hubby was getting a little worried as I was well beyond the 1 hour time that I said I would get there. We stayed there for a bit and then returned to the room to finish packing and get ready for our last night on the ship.

I thought these were all of the kids so I took a picture with JP and Col Klink...

Dinner was fairly quick again tonight. I had the sweet potato soup, which was very good and the prime rib. Hubby had Caesar salad, bacon mac & cheese as a starter and the prime rib. We both did not enjoy the prime rib at all. It was sliced way too thin and tasted like rubber (not that we’ve ever eaten rubber, but it had that texture when you chewed it). The mac & cheese was actually extremely good. Hubby let me try it and I’m sure we will both get it on the next cruise if it is offered.

During dinner someone from the casino brought us a bottle of wine. We picked out the one we wanted and asked that it not be opened. We are not wine drinkers and bring any wine we get home to our neighbors.

Neither one of us got dessert and went to the room to put our luggage out. Another animal was waiting for us so I added him to the family. After, we went to the casino to make one last run.
