Lanyard or Clip?

I'm next cruising on Carnival's Inspiration. Trying to decide on whether to buy a neck lanyard or waist clip to hold my SS card. I've never sailed on Carnival before so, wondering if the cabin doors open by inserting SS card into the door lock or by waving it in front of a sensor.

I'm leaning towards the clip because it has a retractable cord with a plastic sleeve to put my SS card into. I can clip it to my pants or skirt and it will be out of the way.

Your thoughts?

We use lanyards to carry our S&S cards. We also participate in the CC Roll Call and also insert an ID. Note that CCL ships we've been on use a card to lock/unlock the safe so bring an expired gift card (better than carrying a credit card). The expired gift card also goes into the plastic sleeve on our lanyards....

Lanyard. On our second Disney Cruise they gave us a Disney Castaway Lanyard. I use it on every cruise, be it Disney, Carnival, RCL, NCL. If Carnival would give me a Lanyard on my next cruise I would use it on their Carnival ships. I know I can buy one in the shops, but I refuse to pay for something that should be a promotional gift for returning passengers.

Since you've told me we'll have to actually insert the SS card into the door lock, looks like the lanyard is the way to go. Doesn't make sense (if using the retractable clip) to pull out the SS from the clips plastic sleeve, open the door and then, put it back into the sleeve. Trying to make this easy-breezy!

Just an FYI...we just got off the Pride two weeks ago, and on the first night, at the gift shop, they are 1/2 price. Got two, one for my DD (13) and one for myself. Two for ONE!!! Next day they were back up to $10 each.

Dang, the price went up! 2 years ago, they were $5.95. You got a very good deal.

Yes, we did! I was quite happy when I saw the sale was over on day 2:D Are you still taking your cruise? Have you decided yet? Cannot believe that happened to you!

I had my kids get landyards at their school. It can be a great conversation starter. We met a family from the next town on one of our cruises. The ones we have has a clip at the end so you can unclip your S&S card without taking it off (which can be a pain)

I used a lanyard (my personal one that I took off a flash drive, not the one from the casino), but tied it to the belt loop of my pants/shorts and kept the card hidden in my pocket. It was a fun conversation opener shortly after the embarkation, before people had a chance to pick up casino lanyards. I didn't want my full name and folio number hanging out in the open, like it does when the card is dangling around the neck. And the lanyard was long enough so the crew could swipe the card without me having to remove it.

Go with the lanyard method. It's the easiest, most convenient, and safest option. I gathered up a few old lanyards from home which I had obtained from previous conferences, etc. Get the card punched with a hole in the casino or at Guest Services and then just clip the lanyard to it. Whenever we left our room, we all made sure that each of us was wearing our lanyards. Don't bother with getting a plastic sleeve for the lanyards. Just punch a hole and attach the clip. It makes it very convenient when you need to open your room door, safe, use the kiosks machines, disembark and embark at ports, etc.

What I have seen some of the crew do--

They take a casino lanyard and get rid of the coil part. The casino lanyard has a clip. Their card gets attached to the clip which is attached to a belt loop.

OP-FYI The Inspiration incabin safes use a card to activate the safe. We use an old AAA card.

The casino clip/coil lanyard is very cheaply made and unreliable.

The tip on using an old AAA card for the safes is a good one. Old hotel room key cards, old credits cards or anything with a magnetic strip will work and is recommended. This way, that card can be stored safely in the room some place for the rest of the cabin mates to use and access when needed.

Lanyard..

we use cloth lanyards, with a see thru space for card and a little zipper compartment

personally : I have a neck/travel lanyard that has more pockets, I put my passport and travel docs in it when I board....on ship I keep the passport, driv lic, credit cards etc in the safe but still wear my travel lanyard most of the time, I can even fit a little lipstick in it ....I don't like to lug around a purse

when I go to the beach I have a plastic "beach safe" that says "Florida", I bought it at Ft lauderdale beach shop...it is hard plastic and you can put your sign/sail in it and it won't get wet

I personally have never dealt with losing anything or missing anything MYSELF (knock on wood) thanks to these precautions....BUT>>> I have "dealt" with everything from forgotten docs, lost credit cards, lost sign/sail, one guy lost his passport on a beach in Mexico (Costa Maya)

Once I found a Visa card on the pool deck on Destiny...and wow...the name on it was a gal in my group who was enjoying a LOT of DOD's LOL

I'll definately bring my old AAA card for the cabin safe........that reminds me, I need to renew my membership NOW!

My girls and I use the plastic coil bracelets that have a keyring on them. We go to guest services and have a hole punched in the corner of the card and put it on the keyring. Very easy, and you can wear it on your wrist or ankle. We each have different colors, so we can easily know whos is whos.

Personally, I love the rhinestone lanyards.

I went into our local Ace Hardware store last Thurs. to buy some Adirondack chairs that were on sale. Low and behold....those (super pretty) rhinestone lanyards were on display at the registers!!! Heck, the cashier was even wearing a red, white and blue one. So sparkly, even in the harsh lighting of the hardware store and, only $6.99.:D

It always amazes me what you can buy at hardware stores and drugestores! Just might have to mosey on over there this week and, pick up a couple. BTW, they're also offered all over Ebay for varying prices.

Lanyards it is!:p
