Water, Alcohol, and Dress???

Hi -

We're leaving for our first cruise ever in less than two weeks aboard the Caribbean Princess. We've read many things about the title subjects. It would be greatly appreciated if you can offer your experiences. :)

1. We're big water drinkers. We're planning to bring a case or two of bottled water onboard in a suitcase. We've read of others who have done this. Will Princess allow bottled water to be brought onboard during embarkation? Does the tap water on the ship taste okay?

2. We would like to bring a couple bottles of wine or champagne onboard to enjoy in our stateroom. Will Princess allow this at embarkation? What about at port?

3. During the non-formal nights, what dress is acceptable and the norm for dinner? Are a nice shirt and shorts okay, or must long pants or slacks be worn (or even suits and dresses)? We'd like to go as casual as possible. We're planning to forego the formal nights and eat at the buffets.

Again, we'd really appreciate any experiences or ideas you can share. Thanks so much!

No problem bringing on your wine, champagne, water...............almost anything. They do sometimes take any hard liquor away though as bringing that onboard is against the cruise lines rules.

The water on cruise ships from the tap is no problem at all, tastes fine to us and it is totally safe to drink.

As for dress, if you are talking about the evening and you plan to have dinner in the dining room or other alternates besides the buffet, shorts are not permitted. But if you dine at the Cafe Caribe, everything goes up their except for swim suits without a cover up over it.

If you do decide to dine in the dining room, just think casual like you would wear to a nice restaurant. Pants, shirt, dress of any type, or even a skirt would work for casual evenings. Although in the dining room on casual nights you will see more pants and tops then most other things. Only real taboo there is shorts in the evening, breakfast and lunch shorts are just fine.

Enjoy your first cruise!

If you want to bring wine onboard, I reccommed doing so at embarkation because the prices of wine on most of the islands is even more expensive than what you can get on the ship.

I am a huge water-drinker... I drink water ALL day long... And I think the tap water is just fine.

I have a big Princess water bottle, and I usually fill it with ice, and just fill it up with water every hour or so.

As far as the dining rooms, shorts aren't allowed for dinner.

Have a wonderful first cruise! There's nothing like your first cruise!!

Thanks to all of you for the extremely helpful information. We now know we're fine to bring water and wine/champagne onboard, and how to dress for dinner.

We are so very much looking forward to our first cruise! :p

Thanks again. :)

I'm another who thinks the tap water is fine. We refill our water bottles and chill them in the refrigerator.

I just pack two pairs of casual pants to wear in the evenings on casual nights. You'll be fine in khakis and a shirt with a collar--polo type, dress shirt, short-sleeved, or Hawaiian.

And we always bring a few bottles of wine onboard. There's no problem with that. If you bring a bottle to the dining room, your assistant waiter may charge you a $10 corkage fee. On our last Princess cruise, our assistant waiter was more "by the book" than we've experienced on our previous cruises.

Another vote for drinking the water onboard. I always bring a sports bottle or two to keep in the frig and I'm good to go. I've never had a problem with drinking the water on ships.

I have a friend who swears it makes her sick but she doesn't drink anything but bottled water anywhere. Me, I'm too cheap to buy water.
