verogiugio Posted May 7, 2005 #26 Share Posted May 7, 2005 Great review! Thank you for your feedback! I am an Italian non-U.S. citizen too, living in California, and I could totally relate to your feeling regarding food and so on.. What did you think about the Captain Cupisti? And how about all the other Officers "(most of them Italians too)? Thanks Veronica
Glamourgal Posted May 7, 2005 #27 Share Posted May 7, 2005 :D We are leaving 2 weeks from today and I must say after reading your review I am even more excited than I was before (if that's possible)!! I am not even paying attention to this weeks weather as one never knows what it's going to be like tomorrow much less 2 weeks from now! You mentioned that you got to the port around noon. We were planning on getting there around 11, do you think that is too early? The Legend is the only ship in port the day we leave. Did you eat at the Golden Fleece Rest. at all? We were wondering if you can just play it by ear and make your reservations on the morning that you want to eat there or if you need to make them early in the week? Also, regarding San Juan, How was the walk up the hill to ElMorrow? We were going to take a taxi but we both walk and thought maybe that would be better. Thanks Again, for all of your wonderful insights, they are very much appreciated from those of us new to cruising!!
bphman Posted May 7, 2005 #28 Share Posted May 7, 2005 I loved the review and, I have to say, your comments are identical to my impressions about the Legend. I avoided Carnival because of all of the negativity but, when the Legend started cruising from NY, we decided to take the plunge. Since this was the summer after 9/11, I couldn't get my wife on a plane. We had such a great time that we booked the Pride for this August. I felt Carnival really got a bad rap. As far as Herb's concerns about children during the summer, it was a problem. Towards the end of our cruise, the kid's program fell apart and they were just running around and being disruptive. They had to be kicked out of Bingo and the Casinos. My son was 11 and he did not like how the cliques were forming so he stayed with us. These kids needed a good spanking. As a father of 3, I could overlook most of this behavior except their fresh foul mouths. We got on the elevator and a little brat ran in and pushed all of the buttons and tried to run out. My wife and I stood in the door and wouldn't let him out so he had a nice long ride. Maybe we were childish ourselves but we considered it payback. BadBinky2 Posted May 7, 2005 #30 Share Posted May 7, 2005 I was fortunate enough to be in the inaugural sailing of the Carnival Legend and I agree completely with your description of the decor. It's great!! Unfortunately, I didn't find the Enchanted Forest until the last day or I would have spent more time there. A friend and I will be leaving this friday (yep Friday the 13th) on Carnival Legend. Is Dougie Trask still playing on the ship? Did you keep any of the Carnival Capers? Who are the enterainers on board? What nights are the formal nights? Thanks!
marella68 Posted May 7, 2005 #31 Share Posted May 7, 2005 Your best bet, IMO, is shopping, or a visit to the castle or the fort. I found a city tour was a waste of money. Problem here is I think when you get here so late, everything closes. I always found the deck party when in this port most enjoyable. Not sure if they'll have it on this run. I also enjoy the night sailaway. MrPete - Is there a "special" deck party for this evening, as you mentioned you weren't sure if they'd have it on your next cruise. Was this just a special gathering for those who decided to stay onboard the evening of San Juan? I'm still trying to decide what to do that day. I've seen some good things about Debbie at a Puerto Rico travel agency. Haven't had a chance to look at her specific tours yet - walking tours I think. Still looking for ideas.... Was this just a special gathering for those who decided to stay onboard the evening of San Juan? OUCH! I can't speak for this particular run, so I don't wish to mislead you. I've never gotten to SJ so late and stayed so short. On two previous stops there, where we were there all day, that was the night of the deck party. And then twice I sailed from there, so it was the sailaway deck party. I'm just used to it being nighttime in San Juan and attending a deck party. I will have to defer to one of the cruisers of 4/27 or 5/5 (if they get there on time, with all this funky weather.....I hear the Dawn will be late arriving here in NY tomorrow due to it! Pity the poor people that are booked on a one day Mothers Day cruise to nowhere, that's starting out leaving late). :(
LeeNHCruiser Posted May 7, 2005 #33 Share Posted May 7, 2005 Thank you for posting your trip report ~ loved it. I am finally just starting to feel a little hope LOL

matt082600 Posted May 9, 2005 #35 Share Posted May 9, 2005 SandryNYC: I sailed the Legend a year ago and had the category 9a cabin as well. Just the right amount of extra space I thought! Reading your review was like a flashback to my cruise on the Legend. I agree completely with just about everything you wrote, especially the part about some of the rude/ignorant fellow passengers. I could not believe some of the things I heard/witnessed. The cruise itself was fantastic! I cannot wait to see your posted pics. Happy cruising. Glamourgal Posted May 9, 2005 #38 Share Posted May 9, 2005 Thanks for the great pictures. Do you by any chance have a copy of your menu's. We are planning on going to the Golden Fleece one night on our cruise and we can't decide which night we want to go. Do you have to make reservations the first night or can you make them on the AM of the night you want to go? Thanks again for your review.

marella68 Posted May 10, 2005 #40 Share Posted May 10, 2005 Such GREAT pictures! Thanks so much for posting these! Did you happen to keep your Capers? I'd love to see a copy of those too, if you happen to have a scanner. If not, I can wait a few weeks 'til we sail! Thanks again for the personal tour!
