Legend Review - May 27-June 2, 2012 - Long/Lots of Pictures

Dinner the first night in the MDR was somewhat frustrating…had about a 15 minute wait for anytime dining (we went around 7:45 and were seated just after 8:00) It obvious there are always some struggles the first night, particularly in the anytime dining section. We waited well over 15 minutes after being sat before we even got water. This is also one of the only nights I would see the bar waiter, who was very disappointed when we asked for Soda instead of wine or mixed drinks – taking over 20 minutes to bring them to us. It seems they almost make note of who isn’t drinking and avoid them. We ended up getting our entrees about 60 minutes after sitting down, and they weren’t even hot…tepid at best. Upon flagging down one of the assistant waiters, we got new entrees within about 5 minutes that were in better shape. After that, dessert went smoothly and we headed off to check out the casino and other hotspots throughout the ship before turning in in the wee hours of the morning.

WCMC and Orange Sherbet…something I feasted upon every night:

Day 2 – Sea Day

Today, I admittedly slept in until almost 12:00 noon…something that felt really good. I moved on up to the Lido for my ‘morning’ graze session, while Mario explored the ship and spent some money in the fun shops on Deck 3. During the day, the Lido deck was pretty tightly crowded, so instead of sitting and relaxing up on deck, both of us elected to relax on our super-large balcony with its two loungers. While we didn’t get a ton of sun, it was far better than the crowded Lido/Serenity deck areas.

That evening while everyone was getting ready for elegant night dinner, I went ahead and took the great majority of my ‘around the ship’ pictures. Legend is truly a magnificent ship and there’s quite a lot of neat places to explore.

After that, I proceeded to get ready for dinner and we headed to the Dining room around 8:20. No wait this evening, we were quickly taken to our table and were pleasantly surprised that it was prime rib and lobster tail night in the dining room.

It was at this point that the following conversation occurred:

Mario: "So, wait...you're telling me that if I ask the guy for 5 lobster tails and 3 prime ribs he's going to bring them to me without question?"

Me: "Yes"

Mario: "F*** yeah!"

And with that, we became those gluttonous Americans in the dining room that evening. I don’t think either of us had bread or a starter…we just got directly to the delicious prime rib (in my case) and lobster tail after lobster tail (for the ‘Don Mario’). This night was one of the only nights we got to see the wait staff sing/dance, and Mario found it particularly amusing that they were playing ‘Amore’, one of his favorite songs. He proceeded to have a brief conversation with the Maitre’D in Italian as we were heading out for the evening.

We ended up going to the Casino for a little while before heading to the late Happy Cole comedy show. Having seen Happy on the Victory last year and in Tampa as well, I was quite pleased to see he was on the ship. An excellent and packed out show…make sure you get to the shows a good 20 minutes or so early…they fill up the Firebird Lounge rather quickly.

After the comedy show, the rest of the evening was spent in the Medusa’s Lair disco, where we got to see quite a lot of crew members having fun in the lower level. A ‘pack’ of the ships Italian officers were also gathered in the club, and they were quite possibly the most self-absorbed and conceited bunch of ‘gentlemen’ we ran into on the cruise. All of them were very rude, especially the Chief Engineer who swore at Mario in Italian when Mario attempted a conversation with him. We just brushed this off and had a good time, but over the next couple days we learned that the crew was not very fond of the Italian Officers either, as they use their rank and privileges (larger cabins, free internet, etc…) to have their way with whichever bartender they happen to be attracted to that evening. Quite interesting to say the least.

After closing down the club, I proceeded to munch on some 3am pizza and ice cream before heading to bed, looking forward to an awesome day to come in Cozumel.

You couldn’t have asked for calmer seas that afternoon:

Enjoying your review. It caught my eye because I'm thinking about sailing out of Tampa next year. For the first time I need a HC modified cabin on my next cruise and have one like yours, booked on the Pride in Sept. I've really been looking for pictures of HC balcony cabins and have seen a few but none showed the room itself as much as yours. I have had the extended balcony before with reg. cabin and it is really nice to not have to fight the crowd on lido for a lounge chair. I was wondering how much lower the sink and counter tops were in HC modified cabin. Again, looking forward to more of your report and your wonderful pictures.

I don't recall specifically, but they didn't seem any lower than the normal sink/counter combo in a regular cabin.

Lido Midship Pool Areas:

DJ Orson was one of the two DJ’s on the boat. He was from Belize and a very good guy with an easy job.

For the beer lovers, Thirsty Frog Red was available on draft at the Lido and Serenity pool bars:

Still loving this review. One thing I have noticed is that it seems so uncrowded! Did you take the pics very early in the morning before folks woke up, or was it truly this uncrowded? There are lounge chairs available in the Serenity area as well as Lido pool area....lots of chairs!

Darn, all the pics blocked at work! Love Happy Cole! Thanks for all your work with the review.

Ahhh...easy blocking of imagemagick. That's a bummer.

Actually, I took most of these pictures between 5:30 and 7:00pm on the first day at sea, which was also the first elegant night. Most people were in their cabins getting ready for dinner it seemed.
