shofer Posted July 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2012 This is our first time doing the land portion in Alaska. I've seen several mentions on this board about Alaska TourSaver Coupons. I looked this up and it looks quite promising. I know the ship offers many excursions but is it better to book your own using this book with all the 2-for-1 coupons? How happy has anyone been with DIY tours? Sue
Budget Queen Posted July 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2012 The coupon books can offer significant savings. :) I have used them for years. Coupon acceptance is NOT automatic however. Some vendors have a very limited number of acceptance. So you need to verify, if there is any availablity, then purchase. Book in advance is possible. Going independent in Alaska, is superb for those with the interest. If you need hand holding, and fixed plans in place, then go with a tour. If you are open to some easy touring- few direct roads, no way to get lost. :) And have the TIME- which is your biggest friend- this board has excellent accurate trip planning advice. pmjnh Posted July 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2012 We booked our own tours and used the Northern Lights Coupon book. we spent $50 on the book and saved $395. Definitiely worth the purchase but as BQ said, the tour operators only accept so many coupons on onne day. As an example, we had a slightseeing tour. The coupons were accepted on only the 11AM flight and must be booked in advance in most cases. You should look at both websites for both books to see which tours interest you before purchasing. http://www.alaska-discounts.com/ http://www.toursaver.com/
