PremiumSuite Posted September 6, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2012 We are sailing into Dubai on the Odyssey on Nov 26th our flight home is not until 2.45am the next day any suggestions as to what we should do for the day to kill some time. You could book the ships tour of Dubai that also drops you off at the airport as well at the end or do the following on your own. Visit the Dubai Museum, the Burj Kalifa and fountains at 6:00pm (like Bellagio fountains in Vegas), Emirates Mall (ski or visit the new penguin zoo and shop till you drop), go to the Burj el Arab for Afternoon Tea ($125.00) per person, then go to the Walid Water Park right next door at the Jumeria Beach Resort Hotel. There really is so much to do in Dubai that no matter what you decide to do you won't be bored!

PremiumSuite Posted September 6, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2012 helpme Not advisable to hire a car at all. Kind regards Tony Agreed. Taxis are so inexpensive in Dubai anyway it costs nothing to go from Emirates Mall to the Burj el Arab (Equivalent to $7.00).

laryrob Posted September 6, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2012 Has anyone rented a car too as we shall have luggage with us see how much a driver for the day costs. We did that in Buenos Aires when we had the same time gap. Or rent a room for the night near the airport and lv luggage there and tour ,go back and rest before going to the airport. We're on the Odyssey to but have a 10 AM flt to London. we are from seattle
seabournaddict Posted September 6, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2012 QE11 will be docked right opposite you, cant see much, its behind a mound of dirt. Remembering that these guests will most likely have all their luggage, jumping in and out of taxis to go to a water park, skiing or shopping wouldn't be appropriate! If you did the Seabourn tour that then drops off at the airport, you will still be at the airport very early for that flight....the tours only go about 4 hours, so at a rough guess you would be at the airport around 2pm. DUHCAR Posted September 6, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2012 Take a look at the Sheihk Mohammed Cultural Center tour. Very informative and they'll answer ANY questions that you have. Go to the Gold and Silver and Spice souks. Take a ferry across the creek. Take a night cruise on the creek. When we were there, there was no business and we rented the whole boat for $27 for an hour or so.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 7, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Definitely do not rent a car. And you can see the QE2 in all of one minute and take one photo so nothing to see there. You can't go on the ship and you can only view it at a distance. You can visit the various markets in Dubai which will give you an older flavor of the city which by and large is a very modern city. This includes the spice and jewelry markets. Their shopping malls are quite unique so if you want to get out of the heat go to the mall with the indoor skiing as well as their newest mall which is located next to the largest building in the world. JaneBP Posted September 7, 2012 #13 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Renting a car is ridiculous in Dubai. Hire a taxi for the time, most efficient. Dangerous to drive in that culture, for sure.I have not found a reasonable hotel in Dubai, but keep looking.

Flamin_June Posted September 7, 2012 #15 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Book a hotel for that night and ask for an early check in. OK, you won't be there for the night, but you will be able to use it all day and evening, you will have somewhere safe to leave your luggage and a confortable Bathroom to freshen up in. There are many hotels within 15 minutes drive of the airport and at the time that you are going to be heading there there will not be much traffic. The Grand Hyatt is not cheap, but it is not eyewateringly expensive and is close to the airport. A more affordable option is the Hyatt Regency, a little further from the airport (no more than 15 - 20 minutes). Both have good pools and nice spas. The GH has an indoor and outdoor pool with comfortable changing rooms and sauna. You can then explore Dubai at your leisure. Both the Hyatts are well placed for exploring Old Dubai and the souks. Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful, drivers all speak good working English. You could go to the beach instead or head for one of the Malls. Dubai Mall has a fantastic Aquarium, and is right by Burj Khalifa. A short taxi ride or metro ride (clean, safe, reliable, with english signage) from there to the Mall of the Emirates and lunch at Almaz by Momo, for some superb arabic food. Late afternoon, when you are done sighseeing/shopping, you can relax by the pool, have a sauna. There is plenty of time to freshen up and have dinner before setting off for the airport. Both the Hyatts have good dining options. After dinner, relax, get a taxi for 11.45 and go to the airport. have a good flight and snooze. I don't work for Hyatt, I have stayed at all of their hotels in Dubai ( and others) I find them reliable, efficient, comfortable, with good service and it won't be a let-down after being on the boat. For a splurge, book into the Park Hyatt - lovely outdoor pool and spa, very handy for the airport.

Hire a taxi for the time, most efficient. Dangerous to drive in that culture, for sure.I have not found a reasonable hotel in Dubai, but keep looking. There's a left luggage facility at the airport. Taxis very cheap. I would totally not rent a car: too many flyovers, you'll get lost with no time to orientate yourselves. Book Burj Khalifa online beforehand and go to that (no queue and otherwise often soLd out), it's interesting and right in a huge shopping mall that is also interesting and culturally varied. Enjoy the modern Arabic culture around that area without having to travel too much (Dubai is quite long and spread out): a day easily spent in aircon. We were there a few months ago and it was 42 celciius.
