Has smoking policy changed on Carnival since September 2011?

"Its also a well established fact that smokers, on the average, drink more and tip more and are less of a pain in the backside to deal with."

This made me laugh. I'd like to know where you got these "facts".

I agree many nonsmokers are a bunch of "chicken littles" thinking the sky is falling when they see smoke or smell it. But also there are many smokers that couldnt care less who they make uncomfortable with their smoke and will go out of their ways to do so.

As I have said many times..I dont have a problem with smokers following the rules and wont complain when they do. Just ask for some mutual respect because a smoker on a nearby balcony can make the experience unpleasant for the nonsmoker nearby. If you choose to believe it or not is up to you.

Some of the arguments that smokers come up with, such as the above quote, are as ludicrous as the nonsmokers saying they are scared of 2nd hand smoke from a 4, 5 or even 12 day cruise.

LOL..as a smoker I agree with you

I don`t smoke if someone is pleasant when asking me not to...However love the nasty Glare as they enter a smoking area...like it is my fault they are there...the slight cough from an ecig....lol

Seems to me that you always FIGHT to the bitter end on every thread you post on

No matter what the subject is to just piss people off

I smoke...you don`t smoke

I do not smoke in any non smoking areas...you just need to avoid those areas plain and simple.

I don`t know what the big deal is

Or do what we did on the Spirit and fill up the Club Cool with non-smokers.

It's not a big deal to me, the number of smoking areas will grow smaller and smaller as less people smoke.

Your right, I really have nothing to complain about.

Thanks.:D

My favorite was the last ship I was on. The "Cigar Bar", had a sign outside of it that indicated to me that it was a cigar bar. I was confused that there was no smoking there. Thank god for the casino.

I just thought of this...and it's kind of fitting really. While I am an avid cigarette smoker, it's normally only on vacation when I'll smoke cigars. Or if I'm at a golf tournament, or watching a game and someone hands me a cigar, but I don't usually seek them out on a regular basis.

I really can't wait to pick up a stash of em on on my cruise in 2 weeks so that I can smoke them and blow that stinking cloud all over the place.

I might blow it all over my jacket before dinner and stroll through the dining room making laps around all the tables.

No....that would be wrong. I'm not gonna do that. Well...I might get really drunk and do it, but if I don't remember, then it didn't happen...or something. Yes. That's it.

I've managed restaurants over the years, and without fail, servers fight for the smoking sections. Every one I've ever been in. There are things that are just so consistent across the board that it doesn't make sense to try and deny them. The waiters that wait on the smoking sections make more money almost all the time. Just start asking waiters. It's common knowledge.

Exactly. I spent 20 years managing restaurants. Smokers eat and drink more, tip better, and are much easier to deal with. Ask anyone who's been a server.

They should allow smoking only on one side of the ship. Or only on the aft balconies.

Great suggestion! DW have decided not to book any more balcony's until we can be sure we will not be chased indoors.

We don't have a problem with Carnival's current restrictive rules except for this.

We have booked on Celebrity where there is no smoking permitted except in a few top deck areas.

DW and I will be happy to sail Carnival again but not balcony or until they change the balcony smoking policy.

Gotta love them classy CC people.:D

Yes. Class is all about judging others. I should follow your example.

You know who I am? The classy smoker who you can't stand, but who you also can't approach. I just keep smoking, and you just keep accepting it because you'd know you couldn't make your point, and in person your insults would fall flat.

Explain to me, what is it that you think defines class? Or did you really just intend this as a blatant insult? I'd you'd like me to act insulted, I suppose I could. But really....people with class don't go around advocating for the latest pop trend. We don't judge others. I think you might be confusing having class with being an uppity snob. That's a common view among people who lack it.

One thing I have never understood about those who complain about people smoking on a balcony.

How do you go through life? Im not trying to be an ass, Im really wondering how you stand on a street corner and smell the exhaust from cars, buses and trucks, or how you tolorate the smell of charcoal and firepits.

Do you move out of your house when you paint or put new carpet in? Those VOCs are terrible for you too.

Where did THAT come from?

In none of my post did I say I can't stand smokers.

Except on a cruise I seldom see any smokers.

I have no problem with smokers, I just move away.

But I do think the number of smokers is dropping.

And as that happens we will have more non-smoking areas.

And yes, I would like that.

Hope that clears that up.

BTW do you hate non-smokers?

I am a smoker, but respect non smokers...I do not smoke in my home, in my car, or if I am with non smokers... While cruising, I do smoke on my balcony and in designated smoking areas....

On my last cruise in March, I was on a 5 day...Nothing was said about my smoking until the evening leaving Coz...Our neighbor came onto his balcony, cussing (fffffffffffffffffffffffff) constantly....He went into his cabin and turned his television up loud...Banging on the wall...you name it, he was doing it.... Coming onto his balcony saying that we would pay that night....Again...FFFFFFFFFFFF words like they were candy.... Also stating that he was going to use the bathroom on our balcony etc....

NOW, had this man politely asked us to not smoke while he was on the balcony, I would have glady ablidged....But NO....

Well I decided that if he wanted to use that type of language and destroy his room, I would make sure to stay on my balcony and keep one lit...Didn't smoke them all...just made smoke....

I let the steward know what was going on, and he said to call security if we heard anything or the neighbor did anything during the night....

The next morning, we got up to find our balcony deck, walls, chairs RED with wine or whatever....His chair was up against the divider, I suppose where he stood to harm Carnivals property....

We showed the steward, and the man came out of his room at that same time...He was hiding his face in shame I suppose....After the balcony was cleaned, everything was still stained red....And guess who was going to pay for that? Yepp, our neighbor....

Again, had he asked, I would not have smoked while he was on his balcony...but with that kind of attitude, oh Hello yeah I did....

I pay good money to enjoy my cruise as much as the next person....I respect but deserve the same....

;):)

Sometimes, yes. I do.

I have found some non smokers to care about nobody but themselves and their own comfort. Most smokers I know follow the rules, whatever they are. Some non smokers are just never happy. You have a huge cruise ship, but some have to come sit by me while im smoking and wave your hand, and fake cough. Its all bull.

Like cruise4Music mentioned -- it's an interesting history lesson, but not really relevant in most parts of the USA and many, other countries.

Young people entering the work force in California don't have any recollection of a smoking area. It's been banned here since 1995.

Interesting reading and it certainly shows the direction public opionion has been going.....isn't democracy great :)

I wonder if smokers are still better tippers when they're not allowed to smoke.... someone should do a poll

Well I would say the decible level of the music on most any deck is certainly going to damage your ear.. I think for the good of all we should turn all the music down.. and while we are at it. Im sure it won't be good for you to breathe the fumes from those awful smoke stacks the engine room has?? You know they are burning fossil fuel and ruining the atmosphere and depleting the ozone causing all the people on the cruise to get skin cancer!! Cancel all cruises all together except for true masted sailing ships!! Where do my rights stop and yours begin? Oh yeah,, no peanut products on any cruise. Someone who prepared some food that had some peanut product in it might have touched somethingt that someone with an allergy might have touched also resulting in a horrible allergic reaction at sea on a smoke billowing death boat!! No more drinking on ships!! Alcohol is bad for your liver, kidneys, your whole body..And it makes you loose control of yourself and you might do something to injure yourself or others.. No more Alcohol!!!! It gets a little ridiculous doesn't it?

Lets ignore your previous post talking about someones color . lets take this one.1) The decible won't affect you with earplugs(cost 1 dollar),2) The smoke stacks have been proven to not be harmful to passengers,3)83% of scientist have proven the ozone is not depleting by fossil fuel and ruing the atmospheres( only about 10% actually believe in that and global warming-the wackos),Alcohol affects the person who is drinking it, whereas cig smoke (2nd hand) has been proven to harm others around you, I have yet to have my liver affected by a guy drinking next to me. Smokers think they own the outside and can ruin your fresh air whenever they feel like it. Smokers complain about everything if they don't get their way, quit whining, you don't own the outdoors, non-smokers have a right to fresh non toxic air.;)

By that logic, buy a mask..... I dont see you complaining about cars on the road. Smokers account for very little of the pollution.
