formal night question

I have always worn a suit and I like to dress nice for formal night. I was thinking about doing something different since all my formal pictures look the same since i own one suit and I use it 2 times a year and that is on a cruise and going with a nice vest insted of the suit jacket. with with a button down shirt and tie of course. Is that to dressed down for formal night?

Judging from the posts I have read, you will be just fine. As a matter of fact, it seems that dress shirts and ties are very common on formal nights. Have a great time.
