newparks Posted November 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I am an Elite member with Princess, but I just came off the Disney Dream and the difference in the cabins is amazing!! Not only the cabins but the hallways. I have found on all the Princess ships that I have been on, the passenger areas are looking tired and in need of refurbishment. I realize the Disney ships are newer, but even the linens and toiletries were superior and the bathrooms!!!! One and half baths and a full tub and shower!!. I loved it. After saying that I still love my Princess, I'm booked r on an Eastern Caribbean cruise in January.
2little time Posted November 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2012 There are some things that Disney does really well. As you said, decoration is one of them. Crowd control or channeling is another. I enjoyed our Disney cruise but found the decorations in excess in many areas and not relaxing or restful. I enjoy the "uncluttered " look of Princess. Loonbeam Posted November 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I did a Disney versus Princess a while ago. One thing to note as compared with standard cabins, Disney is a bit ahead, but Minisuites compare favorably to the equivalent Disney classes. And of course, Disney is a higher price point so they can afford to dedicate some extra cabin space. Mississippian Posted November 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I just returned from a one-week Princess cruise, and while I had some things I did not like the fact is that my inside cabin cost less than $500 per person. We had to get two cabins and we could only put two people per cabin. This is substantially cheaper than the Disney price. I would expect Disney to be better. They cost more! I'd love to cruise them, but in the end I'd rather save the money, so unless I can really get a deal it's Princess or some other line for me. 5326jan Posted November 29, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2012 We only cruised on Disney once and the cabins were wonderful, but we much prefer the food and service on Princess. However, if we were going to take grandkids on a cruise, we would definitely consider Disney. :)
sunsetbeachgal Posted November 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2012 The new Disney ships price WAY more than Princess so I would fully expect that cabins would be nicer. We did an extended family cruise earlier this year and ended up on Royal Caribbean since cruise was in May and no Princess ships in Caribbean in the summer, and Disney was TWICE the price of RC for comparable itinerary and cabin class. For us, that was not even close to being considered.
WeBeGone Posted November 29, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Someone would have to be pointing a gun at me to get me on a Disney anything !!! :p
willycruise Posted November 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Without kids, and thought the food was subpar to princess. The rooms were very nice though. By the end of the week we were a bit tired of the over the top disney themes everywhere (and we are disney nuts!!!). Most of the music and shows seemed to be liped synced to me on disney. I'll stay with Princess.

I'll stay with Princess. I second that. We did Disney once, no kids, as it was part of a package we did which included the parks too. Although it was good to compare, we would never cruise Disney again. We love our "adult" amenities on Princess like the casino and of course the geared for adults entertainment. That being said, we were very impressed with the rooms and we were on an older ship.
jpthomas27 Posted November 30, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Someone would have to be pointing a gun at me to get me on a Disney anything !!! :p OMG!!! Exactly what I was thinking as I read through this thread! The word Disney in combination with "cruise" and "vacation" makes me want to slit my wrists! Even if someone was pointing a gun at me, I might just ask them to put me out of my misery.
tommycha Posted November 30, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 30, 2012 I would think that the Disney cruise would be more suited for family with kids? Princess on the other hand still caters to older clientele. Although the Diamond Princess cruise ship that we took looks a bit old in some common areas, we love the hospitality of the staff on board and enjoyed the cruise! :)
newparks Posted November 30, 2012 Author #12 Share Posted November 30, 2012 I should have said the only reason I was on a Disney cruise was because I took the Grandchildren. Other than the superior cabins, give me my Princess anytime. After my Eastern Caribbean cruise in January, I am booked for the Asia land/cruise tour in March. Rare KKB Posted November 30, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Cuz that is usually the cost difference! We usually do an interior on Princess; we had a family suite on DCL. Princess is just fine for the 2 of us. We agree MDR food on Princess was superior. But Palo on DCL was AMAZING. And Disney has the nicest sports bar area on any ship we have been on. Was pleasantly surprised that there was not a huge amount of Disney decor when we were on it--we aren't huge Disney fans so this was nice for us. Disney knows kids, for sure; but kids loved clubs on RCCL just as well. Will let you know how they like Princess teen/kids clubs after this trip! sammiedawg Posted November 30, 2012 #16 Share Posted November 30, 2012 We do not love Disney, of course the parks are nice but once or twice in life was enough. I've glanced at Disney cruise prices, I would have to have a good reason to sail, maybe with a grandchild. Sans children, no thanks.
sallybrown2012 Posted December 1, 2012 #17 Share Posted December 1, 2012 We love Disney, and have thoroughly enjoyed our many Disney cruises. Yes, they cost more, but we find that the "magic" is worth it. Unfortunately, they only have 4 ships, and simply can't match the varied itineraries of lines like Princess. For that reason, we are trying a Princess cruise next summer, and are extremely excited about it! We are looking forward to having a new experience.
