bubbles1209 Posted January 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Heading to N.Y for a cruise in August.....is staying there a possibility before a cruise? How far is that from the cruise terminal? Would we better off somewhere closer to the terminal? Any & all help appreciated, thanks!
njhorseman Posted January 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2013 If you're you're leaving from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal no hotel in Manhattan is very far away. The Greenwich Village area is about 3.5 to 4 miles from the cruise terminal. Taxi fare from your hotel to the cruise terminal would likely be $15-20 at most. It's a bit unusual for a cruise passenger to want to stay in Greenwich Village. There aren't many hotels in the neighborhood, and nothing that I can think of as noteworthy. Where to stay probably depends on what you want to do. If you're coming in a couple of days early to do some sightseeing it's a bit more convenient to stay in the midtown Manhattan area. But even from Greenwich Village, almost everywhere you'd likely want to go in Manhattan is only a short subway ride away.
Nitemare Posted January 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I've stayed in some great hotels in Greenwich Village, and there's lots of things to do there. Great clubs and Restaurants (ate at "Commerce" about 10 days, ago, one of the best dining experiences overall that I've ever had). Some nice parks, great history, and well located for anything else you might want to do in Lower Manhattan (Ground Zero, SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, etc, etc)

(Yes, I realize there is no precise definition.) Maybe in the meatpacking district, maybe on the fringes of Chelsea or Tribeca or Soho, but not in Greenwich Village. Nitemare Posted January 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Washington Square doesn't count? For the OP's purpose, I'd say it counts. Of course I'm not a native.

Yes, Washington Square Park counts. It's the traditional hub of the Village.
Langoustine Posted January 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Try the Washington Square Hotel @103 Waverly Place. That's the only one I can think of.
Nitemare Posted January 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Try the Washington Square Hotel @103 Waverly Place. That's the only one I can think of. And I can vouch for it. Ask for Dylan's room
Langoustine Posted January 5, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Ask for Dylan's room Well, that's cool; which one is that? (Or is it like Sid & Nancy's room at the Chelsea, where I believe they had to change the number to discourage fans holding seances?)
Nitemare Posted January 5, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2013 According to this, room 305. Lots of interesting stories about the place
