stillabrownsfan Posted January 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2013 This will be my first visit to Marigot. I am taking Bernard's Tour and will have 1 hour there to shop. Can you tell me about any souvenir shops, or pastry shops, etc? Also, I sometimes like to buy spices, maybe vanilla beans or vanilla, things for the kitchen. Are there any shops like that? Thanks :D

stillabrownsfan Posted January 5, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Hasn't anyone visited Marigot and gone to any shops or restaurants that they enjoyed
Steppy08 Posted January 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Not sure if its always there, but there was an open air market on the waterfront the last time we were there. Plenty of shops and restaurants as well. Parking sucks, but if you've got a cab you're okay.
gtaylor Posted January 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2013 The Marigot Marketplace is there with the most 'shops' open on Wednesday and Saturday. (click) Sarafina's bakery is often mentioned, but the Best Bakery award last year went to a place on the Dutch side. gary

stillabrownsfan Posted January 7, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted January 7, 2013 Thank you for the pictures, they are great! :) Just out of curiosity, since you mentioned that Sarafina's was not named the Best Bakery, what was the bakery that won on the Dutch side? Was it anywhere near where the ships dock?
Karysa Posted January 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Last Wednesday at the Market our daughter purchased a beautiful handpainted coconut leaf. I have never seen this type of art before and it is really quite interesting. It was designed and made on the island. I purchased a sinch belt that was designed on island and made in Portugal. It is made out of seed beads and the buckle is beautifully painted.
TMull Posted January 10, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Sarafina is always our last stop as we leave the island for home. Excellent for breakfast or lunch. If athletic, hike the hike to the fort at the top of the hill is worth the trouble. The open air market is fun, but not much of the fare is unique to St Martin. Other than that, just wandering the shops is kind of cool.
Rare Hlitner Posted January 11, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 11, 2013 Am enjoying the thread since we are currently in a condo about 10 min from Marigot (where we were this morning). Since we go there a few times a week we are hoping some of you experts can tell us what not to miss :). To quote DW about the market, "same o same o." gtaylor Posted January 13, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2013 If they take the normal route from Maho back to Philipsburg, they have to pass right by it. Also the Taste Factory that I mentioned. gary
arpie05 Posted January 14, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 14, 2013 The hour you have during Bernard's tour is not much. Just enough time to buy a pastry and look at the spice market. This trip - going straight to Margot
