The lounge is on the second floor, we were there in december 2012, just an empty room with a bunch of folding chairs(100 or so), no beverages or anything, but you will board early.

Hmm, that is not true. The VIP lounge in NYC is a separate room to the right after you pass through security. There are couches and chairs. There is also a station with coffee, tea, water and lemonade. Sometimes they set-up the S/S cards within the room itself, other times you are escorted to a separate line and then escorted to the VIP room. Here is a picture:

LoveMyBoxer - Is that photo from Pier 90 or Pier 88? Pier 90 has a very nice VIP lounge with chairs and sofas as well as photos on the wall of ocean liners from years ago. Also a separate entrance to the pier (although it bypassed the photographers when we sailed last year - if you want a welcome aboard photo you may need to ask). When we sailed from Pier 88 in 2010, we just had a separate VIP line and then they escorted you to a lounge to wait for boarding. Not sure if they've changed it since then.

Yes that's pier 90 which is the normal Carnival/HAL pier. Pier 88 actually belongs to NCL and it also has a separate room, however, not as nice as the one in the picture. We had to use pier 88 over Christmas/New Year's because the Carnival pier still did not have power/heat from Hurricane Sandy. This was the only time we've sailed from pier 88 with Carnival/HAL in 9 sailings.

When we sailed from Pier 88 we had an awful VIP experience. All the VIP agents started processing a wedding party, leaving no one to process the VIPs. Meanwhile folks in the non-VIP line were boarding the ship. It's not supposed to work that way....

Yup, for some reason the Carnival people don't know what to do when they are in pier 88!!

You do realize those people don't work for Carnival, HAL, NCL or any other cruise line.

Yes thank you, I do. However, the same people are there each and everytime a ship comes in. You would think that by now they would figure out what to do!

  • 6 months later...

Just used the VIP lounge in NYC. It was a nice lounge with chairs, couches, water, coffee, lemonade. Like Miami of old. There is a desk directly in front when you enter with employees that take you boarding pass and passports then call you up to process you We were sent directly there from dropping off our luggage. When it was time to board we were escorted in a line to have our pix made and then board the ship. Easiest embarkation in over 25 years.

It was a very nice lounge, with lemonade, from what I remember.

But I was barely in there long enough to finish a dixie cup of lemonade...one couple in front of us, then we were processed, and then photo op and welcome aboard. It was less than 5 minutes total.

I love boarding in NY...

Thankyou to both of you for the information... Can I ask about what time you got to the port? So we just drop our luggage outside, than go in and go to VIP/ FTTF line Than go through the scanners? and directed to lounge, I just want to look like I know what I am doing.... LOL I have done NCL VIP it sounds like Carnival is matching their VIP lounge now

My last cruise (last year on labor day) I was at the pier at about 11am, dropped of luggage. I THINK we went through scanners next, then right in to the VIP lounge, and was on the ship by 11:30. The wait in the lounge was the shortest part of everything.

The VIP lounge in NYC at pier 90 is very nice, though it gets crowded.

The Priority security line you need is on the left as you enter the port, and then after the scanners show your paper that says PRIORITY to the person on the right and beyond that on the right is the VIP room.

You do need to ask for your embarkation photo as you go out a separate door to board, and the photog isn't always there. (wasn't last week anyway).

If you've done NCL VIP at 88, 90 seems to be set up the opposite way (NCL priority security line is on the right, etc.)

LOVE to sail out of NYC.
