If your suitcase is UNLOCKED – they will go through it and leave you a letter stating that they did – and how to claim anything they took out.

If your suitcase is LOCKED – you will be called down to open the case up so they can go through it.

On my last cruise (Glory last Nov. sailing from Miami) I got called to the naughty room. I was really surprised, I don’t drink so I wasn’t smuggling anything. When they went through my suitcase – they pulled out a quart size plastic milk jug – that was full of coins I brought along to donate to the casino!! I forgot that I had put it there; I thought it was in my carryon.

a casino that takes coins??? let alone cash???

One of the bottles was sealed & the bag was locked. The first thing that asked me was "do you have liquor in your bag?" . Evidently, they saw it when they x-rayed the bag and had the bag not been locked, would have gone through it.

I"m not sure I want them searching my bag.

I do not feel carnival should have cart blanche for rifling through my luggage.

What did you answer?? :p Also, as for the Listerine bottles, did you get them back at the end of the cruise? I have heard that only liquor in the original bottles is returned.

I went to the naughty room because my bag hadn't been delivered I found the bag and security said they had to check it as something had shown uop on the scanner. I had forgotten what I had in there so I said o.k. {like I could say anything else} In there he found a 6 pack of 12oz.bottles of coke. he just said o.k. boy I was embarresed.

they said the suitcase didn'thave a luggage tag on it that is why they hadn't called me. So be careful putting tags on so they can't come off too easilly.

I told them no, unlocked the bag and they looked at the mouthwash as though they had no idea what it was. They didn't confiscate it.

On my last cruise when I went to open my luggage after it was delivered to my stateroom I discovered a letter from security that they thought they saw something that wasn't allowed but all was okay and sorry. The only thing I can think it was, a bottle of spray sunscreen. I didn't care I was just glad to be cruising.

I wish I was leaving as soon as you. I see you're already booked on the Splendor.

Yea, we live about 20 minutes from port in Manhattan. We were planning to book the Miracle for May and we found out that Splendor was going to replace her here. So we booked the Splendor, but were kind of bummed not to be able to say "good bye and thanks for the memories" to Miracle :o:( So we looked again and the prices were really good for leaving Manhattan in the winter and we said, WTH you only live once and booked the 2/10 sailing! LOVE the Spirit class of ships. :)

If you don't try to bring prohibited items that risk the safety of other passengers, or try to load your suitcase with booze, than you would not need to worry about Carnival rummaging through your luggage. I for one, am glad they do. Although I am sure they do not catch everything, but at least they catch a good amount. Brings a smile to my face everytime a thread like this appears!:D

ATTENTION:

It has now been discovered, at approximately 6:30 PM EST, that the following liquids risk the safety of passengers on board cruise ships:

Jack Daniels Brand Whiskey (all variety's)

Wild Turkey Brand Whiskey (all variety's)

Crown Royal Brand Whiskey (all variety's)

Jamison Brand Irish Whiskey

Seagram's Brand Rum (all variety's)

Bacardi Brand Rum (all variety's)

Captain Morgan Brand Rum (all variety's)

Jagermeister

Jose Cuervo Tequila (all variety's)

All brands of Gin

As well as all form of the following brands of vodka:

Skyy, Absolut, Grey Goose, Stolichnaya, Kru, Svedka, and Smirnoff

These liquids, along with other unknown liquids not mentioned on this list, have been known to cause the following when consumed by humans:

Slurred Speech

Dizzyness

Inability to hold bladder functions

Decreased maturity levels

Increased volume levels

Some incidents have also led to intercourse with not-so-desirable women and/or men, thus resulting in massive quantities of shame and regret.

Also, in many cases (approximately 97.43% of cases reported), consumption of these liquids have led to extreme entertainment and an unusual feeling of joy and happiness by both the consumer and passers-by.

This is a warning to you and a suggestion to AVOID these DANGEROUS, SAFETY RISKING LIQUIDS at ALL COSTS!! Please arm yourself with various fans, steam irons, imitation weapons, and stun guns to fend off anybody offering you these liquids (also known as "Bartenders" and "Wait Staff", among other various names.

This message has been brought to you by the CPOCS (Conservative Prudes On-board Cruise Ships), and also your grand mother, who probably told you "That liquor is the Devil's work! Don't touch it!"

P.S. - This is a joke. Yes, I ready everything in the recent posts before this, you don't have to point out that there was a comma in between those two statements. Go have a shot and don't get your panties in a wad.

On our January 12th Dream cruise, I couldn't figure out what was taking only one of our bags so long to get to our cabin. Finally, very late in the afternoon we hear a thump at the door, got the bag and immediately noticed the two zipper pulls weren't in the position I had them in. I said someone opened my bag, so I unzipped it and there was a letter on top of my clothes that said my clothes steamer wasn't an allowed item. I haven't had a problem on my past Carnival cruises bringing it with me and I didn't even know it was an item that isn't allowed.

I went to Guest Services, not to complain because I knew I wouldn't get it back until the last day but just to ask why it was taken. The person behind the desk didn't know and he went behind the door and asked someone else and when he came back he still didn't seem sure why it was taken except to say he thought it had something to do with the power cord. When I went the last day to get it, I saw they had someone else's steamer on the table next to mine. I guess there is some sort of appliance with cords policy which would make sense but the curling iron made it on no problem so who knows.

Carnival has general guidelines (including many specifics) but all the ships seem to interpret them differently. Therein lies my biggest beef with them... the lack of consitency.

I've never had any problems with my wine, but on our last cruise they took my wife's little needle nose pliers. She uses them for jewelry repair and such. They said that we couldn't get them back. I guess they thought we were going to use them to pull the big drain plug in the bottom of the ship!

... or force your way onto the bridge, holding that to someones throat, in your attempt to run the ship into a reef or something...

Some of those security guys get a real charge stemming from the power they have to confiscate things from people. There is no position like that of control - never mind if you're in the right or not!
