NCL and The Haven Perks

I have booked an Owner's Suite with Large balcony on Norwegian Gem. This is my first time cruising and I am looking for a relaxing stress free vacation. I am having a hard time gathering all the exact benefits of a Haven Suite on the Norwegian Gem. This is the start of my list below with questions as follows (especially number 15):

1. 24-hour Butler

2. Concierge

3. Private Courtyard

3A. Small pool

3B. Courtyard valet?

3C. Sundeck? May I order drinks on the sundeck?

3D. Hot tub

3E. Small fitness room?

4. 1 bottle of free champagne + 3 bottles of free liquor for inside suite?

5. Free bottled water and soda for inside suite for entire cruise?

6. Automatic espresso/coffee machine?

7. Priority embarkation with escort to suite?

8. Priority disembarkation

9. Priority boarding of tenders to shore

10. In-suite-white-tablecloth-dining with Haven's specialty menu (larger in room dining menu for members of the Haven?) or from specialty restaurants?

11. Gourmet treats in suite once or twice daily?

12. Breakfast and lunch at Cagney Steakhouse?

13. Special cocktail party with ship's officers and other parties?

14. Upgraded linens and soaps.

15. I am currently able to book online shore excursions (just like everyone else not in the Haven). I also see that there is a pre-cruise concierge at phone number 855.NCL.HAVEN (625.4283) in which I am able to book spa and restaurants and entertainment? Does anyone know how far in advance I can book things using this phone number? Will I be able to book restaurants and spa services online before the cruise?----if so how many days before the cruise?--if so, how many days before cruisers who are not part of the Haven? Please feel free to comment, add and correct my comments.

thank you

Using the Pre-cruise concierge number, Haven guests may make dining, entertainment and spa reservations 55 days out.

Enjoy your cruise. We loved the Gem Haven last year!

My wife and I recently stayed in the Gem Haven. I felt the courtyard valet/butler was the best perk we experienced on the cruise. We used the valet to serve us breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks everyday of our cruise in the courtyard including a relaxed last breakfast on the day of our disembarkation. Our valet would get us absolutely anything we wanted and he made us feel we were the most important people on the ship. I found it hard to believe that only 3 or our villa cabins used him even though they were all filled to capacity.

I am new to NCL...to the message about in-suite breakfast morning of disembarkation...is this really true for this cruise line? If so I will be so pleased!

Yes, you can order breakfast in your suite for disembarkation day. It works great to get 1 last awesome meal in before you go

We just returned from Gem's Garden Villa on Sunday- you are going to LOVE the Haven. The ammenities you listed seem correct, though I am definitely not an expert on the differences in ammenities between different types of Haven suites (ie bottles of liquor, etc.). We got six bottles of liquor and two bottles of champagne.

In terms of breakfast, our fabulous butler, Randito, brought us a pot of decaf, two pots of regular, a pastry tray, and a fruit tray every morning before 7am (we're up early with three kids aged 5 and under!) We ordered a fuller breakfast from Cagney's on a couple of occassions, including disembarkation day (though we didnt dock in NYC until noon, so I wasn't sure if that's why they allowed it- from posts above though, it looks like they will do it anytime).

The one point on your list that I will commment on is the small Haven fitness area- it is literally a tiny alcove at the back of the steaming hot Haven (wedged between two steam rooms, in fact), with ONE treadmill and ONE other machine (I think it was a stationary bike, but maybe it was an elliptical) and no windows. I run 5 miles a day, so I tried to run on the Haven treadmill one day, but had to bail after one mile and head to the regular gym to finish, due mostly to the overwhelming heat. It makes sense to keep the Haven warm since people are mostly lounging in swim suits, but it is not a good place for exercise ;)

Enjoy, I'm jealous!

Since the kitchens and restaurants open early on disembarkation day, the courtyard valet will serve breakfast in the courtyard earlier that day as well.

When we did this on the Gem, we also did the early suite walk-off disembarkation.

I never had an easier and more relaxed morning of disembarkation.

We probably were the first people on the ship to east breakfast that morning (served by the valet a few steps outside our villa) and we were definitely the first people off the ship escorted by the concierge. We were also the first people through the terminal and the first car out of the parking lot atop the terminal.

Totally stress free.

3e. Fitness room is very small, fits 2 pcs. Usually has 1 treadmill, and 1 bike or eliptical. No A/C so easy to over heat. For a serious work out fitness center is best and from your location all the way forward an easy walk to 12 forward

6. Lavazza pod machine is in your room, butler gives pods for coffee or tea. I think its excellent coffee. Has steam wand and pitcher, its easy to steam milk for cappuc or latte, I did it evry day.

7. Get to port by 11am. Look for priority suites line. Take you to special waiting room for suites. You get escorted on ship 1st. Go to Cagneys for lunch.

8 and 9. Always check with conc for the plan on port days. They meet at diff places to escort you off.

11. Treats once about 4. Ask what you can request or be surprised.

12. Do not miss brkfst and lunch, its quiet, peaceful and high service, if you want something just ask its made to order right there. Butler will bring to room but Id rather have there.

13. Letters will be delivered to your room for events. Suite party is very nice, thye offer tray of drinks but its open bar if you want.

Not obvious but lights in OS bathroom are on dimmer, hold down button and get brighter, then dim.

Enjoy....

I have been trying to find out if the spa suites on the Epic get all of these perks as well, specifically the bottle of Champagne and 3 bottles of liquor? It seemed to me that maybe the spa suites don't have all the same perks.

The free champagne and liqour bottles are only available for owners suites and garden villas, so not for regular suites (which the spa suites are).

In Anita's list quoted above, I didn't see an SG category. Why is that? We're in an SG on the Star and I'm now wondering if this is considered a mini-suite. Anyone?

That list you are referring to is actually several years old, and has numerous errors in it (for example, OS and DOS categories receive unlimited sodas, not 6 as is listed). The list is so old, that when it was originally published there was no such thing as an SG suite! Also, that list is extremely cumbersome. All suite get the same perks, except OS, DOS and GV get champagne, bottles of alcohol, and unlimited mixers, etc. They also get Haven access if the ship is equipped with a Haven. Everything else is the same for all suites.

You are absolutely booked in a full suite, and are entitled to all the amenities except Haven access. There's an easy way to tell which categories get what.

All suites start with the letter "S"

Suites with a number after the "S" have Haven access

Suites with a letter after the "S" do not have Haven access

Mini-Suites start with the letter M, and get no perks, nor do any category below them.

Hope that helps alleviate your worries. ;)

Happy cruising! You are going to absolutely LOVE the suite life!

AWE when I saw steam room above thought wonderful love the steam room. Guess that was meaning hot. Don't see any steam rooms except the pay for one at the spa? Is this correct on the GEM? Use to another line where the spa has a pool, 2 hot tubs, steam and sauna rooms for all passengers wishing to use them. We go after the early show at night and I go early in the AM alone (as long as there is somebody around). Guess I will need the spa package if available.

Also don't know if it matters but I don't see S2 in the list above would that be different. We were told we had access to the HAVEN.

Love this board thanks folks, Laura

Thank you! Is the sparkling wine, water, and fruit refillable?

Fruits yes, others no. (Except for OS, DOS and GV have free bottled water replenished by consumption)

And is the espresso/cappuccino machine also a coffee maker? And are the grounds available upon request? I'm trying to determine if the espresso machine is also something like a Keurig.

They are Lavazza pod type machines. There are pods also for normal coffee (different blends) and teas also (I remember at least black and lemon). I don't drink much coffee and have never tried it from those macines but many people say that it's good (if I'm not mistaken, the lila pod was the coffee blend that has been raved most about).

I'm also seeing there is a mini-bar. Is that gratis? Does one pay for the liquor and mixers in the mini-bar? I don't drink, but I do like a soft drink occasionally.

Minibar is not complimentary, we always ask room steward or butler for it to be emptied and keep our own sodas etc there. If you don't need to store anything else in the minifridge, you can ask that there will be enough of your soda of choice in there. IIRC the price for a soda can from a minibar is the same as from ship's bars. You are also free to bring your own sodas onboard - we always mix-n-match as we bring typically 12-pack each to drink usually in the cabin and then buy sodas while having lunches, in the sun deck etc.

Read messages #20 and #22, the lists that are copy-pasted here are very, very old so the PDF that gma_pat linked is much better source of information. Also the Haven is explained in the second message (you have a suite with a number in the category -> you have Haven access). :)

I was in Spa Suite last year on Epic, no liquor just a bottle of Champage....did I drink it..Oh Yeah....would I ever buy it myself to drink....Oh No :p...it was there...didn't want to see it go to waste! One thing about the Spa Suite also it's good exercise to get to the Haven. I didn't find the walk bad but say if you got to POSH and then found you forgot your suncreen you'd want to kick yourself in the butt :)
