Hong Kong to Singapore

We did it on the Shadow October 2011 and really enjoyed it. One of the highlights was an excursion to the Mekong Delta. We did not do the excursion to Angor Wat, but several others on a trip did and said it was worth it. It was our first time in that part of the world, and Silversea made it a pleasure. And since the ship is small enough to make it up the river, you get to sail all the way into Bangkok, rather than being docked 2 hours away like the large ships do. Totally worth doing this itinerary with Silversea.

We did it February 2010 and on the HK - Singapore leg called at Haiphong for Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Chan May, Nha Trang, and overnight in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). On the Singapore to HK trip North we called at Muara, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Manila. Two fascinating cruises back to back. What do you want to know specifically?

pke-atlanta...Thanks very much for your input

57 varieties....We have been on the Spirit. Any problems with the Whisper(a smaller ship). Couple of comments on CC that the food was poor. Also, do you know anything about the side trip to Angor Wat? TIA

The food was the usual excellent Silversea standard on the Whisper when we sailed.

Angkor Wat is a wonderful place to visit according to friends and family who have been but I cannot speak from personal experience. I am sure someone else will help with this.

As mentioned previously, the day trip from Ho Chi Minh city to the Mekong delta is well worth doing. The ship cruises all the way up the river and ties up in central HCM you then take a two hour drive to the Mekong proper where small boats take you on the tour. We loved Vietnam for its diversity.

Did Singapore to HK on another small luxury line with a pre cruise stay in Angkor Wat. It was fantastic. One of the highlights of our holiday.

We did that cruise on Seabourn but did not do the overnight to Angor Wat. We loved the stops in Vietnam. Cannot believe they were once the "enemy."

We were on the Shadow from HK to SIN in November. As usual, the food was excellent and we lacked for nothing.

Silversea did not offer a tour to Angkor Wat, but right at final payment date they offered a shortened cruise from which we disembarked on the second day in HCMC. We booked our own tour to the Mekong Delta and were dropped off at the SGN airport in the evening to catch a late flight to Siem Reap. We arranged to spend three nights at Raffles, where the concierge arranged a car, driver and guide. Everything was wonderful, with a charming and knowledgeable guide for the three days. On the evening of the third day we caught the late flight home through Seoul.

All in all one of our most memorable trips, and one not to be missed.

The people in Saigon are warm and friendly. Most likely, your tour will end with a hug and an expressed hope that you will return, with friends. Southern Vietnam is on the way up. Reassure your wife that she will not be encountering any hostilities or negativity.

I agree with one caveat. The War Remnants Museum in Saigon. A popular exhibit, and interesting, but avoid if you want to avoid any negativity. You can find it in Wikipedia.
