Reflection--Resort Deck Suites?

My wife and I are planning a med cruise for June or Sept of 2014. This is my wife's first cruise and my second (first since 1997). The 2014 Med Cruise Itineraries are supposed to be released in late March. We are hoping that Reflection will have similar 10-11 day itineraries for 2014. I'm expect to book our cruise early so in planning I'm operating for now under the presumption that we will be on Reflection. Cabin selection is a top factor for us.

My wife has expressed an interest in the AQ class rooms (it got rave reviews from one of her coworkers). Since this is my wife's first cruise I am seriously considering splurging and booking a suite.

I've been through the S-Class room spreadsheets (thanks Librarylady) and Cruisetail's extensive room analysis, but because Reflection is so new there is just not that much information out there about the suites and rooms on the Resort Deck. My concern is that the Resort Deck is below the Lido Deck and could have quite a bit of noise from above in many of the rooms. It would seem silly to spend extra $$$ for a huge room and balcony that has a lot of noise.

The information I've found thus far on the AQ suites on the Resort Deck appears to be mixed. Just a few of the suites/cabins on the resort deck have been reviewed. Some good some bad.

Cabins I'm considering (all on Port side)

Resort Deck

AQ Suites on hump--2155, 2165

AQ Suites forward2141-2127

AQ State Room 2153-2147

Sky Suites 2177-2191

Penthouse Deck (all on Port side)

AQ State Rooms on hump 1599-1605

AQ State Rooms forward 1597-1567

Celebrity Suites 1615-1619

Is there any of you out there who have sailed on Reflection and stayed on the Resort Deck? If so, what were your thoughts? Would I be better off booking a cabin/non AQ suite down a level on the Penthouse or Sky Decks? Really would like AQ stateroom at a minimum but suite if possible.

Thanks

We are also interested in the Resort deck room reviews. We have never done a guarantee before but just couldn't pass up a deal for a gty concierge class (10 nt Mediterranean, July 2013). Our room is listed as 'guarantee CC Resort deck.'

Any input would be helpful. We figured we would be on this boat less than any other cruise we have been on since it is port intensive. This is our first European cruise. Most of ours have been Caribbean cruises where we have spent the majority of our time relaxing on the ship. Excited to try Reflection!

I just got off of Reflection yesterday and was in 2169 and can report that you hear no extraneous noise with the exception of an occasional toilet flushing from the Ocean View bathroom one deck above. While this cabin is CC and not a suite it is close enough to some of the others to give you a pretty good idea.

May apply to all ships of this class - stayed in cabin 2151 (premium suite in the stern just below the Oceanview bar/cafe) on deck 12. Every morning at 0630 the noise of dragging chairs started. Noise penetrated the cabin loudly. Went on all day until about 2100. Really annoying - could never sleep in. Just a constant, "scaping" on the ceiling. Spoke to Hotel Manager outside main theater on second night. She told us, "We just replaced the chair footings" but offered no other solution to the noise. Problem is the chair footings are made of a rubberized materiel - should be teflon type sliders (a hint to Celebrity to fix the problem).

What really buggs me is I repeatedly called the Hotel Manager, left messages, even sent the butler to convey message to speak with her - nothing from Hotel Manager - nothing.

Celebrity needs to warn passengers about the noise problem in this cabin and not charge highest price for the suite like they do presently for all corner stern suites. Most importantly - fix the chairs footings!

We were in cabin 2147 (not far from 2151) and we never heard any noise from above. Even when sitting out on the balcony, we did not hear noise from above.

We found the cabin to have a nice central location as well.

As far as which type of suite to pick, I would recommend the Aqua Class cabins or suites. This gives you exclusive access to Blu - which we enjoy much more than the MDR.

We were in AQ 2146 and really loved the location - it was so convenient being centrally located, right near the elevators and a quick trip up to the aqua spa and pool.

There was some noise from the pool area (moving chairs) in the morning but I was generally up anyway and DH could sleep through anything!! Loved the large balcony as well.

You should check the spreadsheet of S class cabins for more reports from Reflection and other S class ships.

Whether this is true or not, we were told by a future cruise specialist on Eclipse in December who was just off a Month on Reflection that because of the extra AQ cabins, new AQ Suites and extra Signature Suites and the Reflection Suite that Sky Suites (S1 and S2) were not given space available access to Blu at all. If you are looking for beautiful suites, the S1's on the back corners are great if you avoid the top deck and the 2 on each side with the window washing equipment but you may not get access to Blue.

Personally, I would avoid any cabin below the pool or restaurant as many reviews site this as an issue and it's not worth the chance with so many choices. I would book the rooms under the spa. On Reflection, because of the "Extra deck" the suites on the Penthouse deck actually look better as they're not under the Lido. Some of the Aqua class suites are more suspect if you ask me. You also have the overhang issue except for the suites on the hump. Whether you like this or not will depends on if you're looking for sun or shade.

Still lots of great options for nice suites with access to Blu!

Happy Sailing!

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the info! Just wondering about the overhang on these resort balconies. Is it complete shade? We just saw we were assigned 2169. i usually enjoy getting some sun on the balcony, but for Med cruise in July, shade might be nice. Any pics?

Thanks for all who post...I look forward to reading these every day!

DH and I were booked in 2136 in February and absolutely loved it! I would not normally book a suite but we prefer to have Aqua class and only the suites were available since we booked so late. There is an overhang so there is more shade than other balconies but we still received plenty of sunlight, at least enough for us. We like to go to the Sunset Bar to get more sun and have quick access to cocktails!

This is my first time posting so hopefully you can see these pics of the room and balcony.

After I said this, we booked an upgrade to a Suite Guarantee on our upcoming cruise on Reflection and ended up in an Aqua Suite on deck 12. We're luckily on the hump, so no overhang, but we'll see how the noise goes.

I'll try and remember to report back :)

Happy Sailing!
