Cruise to NOWHERE. Who has done it before?

Some buddies and I are going on our first ever cruise to nowhere on May 24th out of Norfolk, VA. Who all has done it or knows someone who has? I hear its just a big party floating out allowing you to eat, booze, gamble, get sun and enjoy a "sea day" is there anything I should know?

Have heard no cheers program offered.

Have heard I can use this towards my cruise credits as I am at 8 right now this will get me to 9 andone I will be platinum.

Have been on the breeze but haven't been on a boat that has been RE-done like this 2.0. I have been on the Glory before but want to know how much more similar will it be to the Breeze now?

Thanks all and happy cruising from your buddy in North Carolina. :D

I did a CTN on the Pride last Fall, so here's what I can confirm or speculate.

This is true.

I haven't heard that before, but it wouldn't surprise me, since people drink quite a bit.

It does count towards Platinum.

I wanted to book one a few years ago and the pvp strongly discouraged it. He said it wasn't a good cruise for a young cruisers (we were in our early 20's) and that it was mainly for drinking and gambling.

I think you need 10 by the end of 2013 to be grandfathered in as platnum.

4 were from Norfolk -with various ships, the other was on the Miracle from New York. They're a ton of fun and not always excessive partying.

We've celebrated birthdays and annivesaries. It's more fun if you bring friends so you make your own party.

We're in our 60's and I would go on another one in a minute. They have great comedians, a lot to do on the ship and decent food. You get most of the experiences of a regular cruise but no the fun of the ports.

i did these a few years back when they were more affordable. today i can go somewhere for less money then a ctn. We are going to canada for mon thru saturday for 399 pp ... tips'are added to your final payment. there is no adjusting them when onboard. you have to handle'all your luggage, there are no porters. ctn is nothing at all like a longer'cruise, sad that a lot of first timers will try it to see if they like it.

We have done 2 of them in the past years. Honestly with todays costs of interior rooms you can book a 5 to 9 day cheaper then a cruise to no where that has to much cost and BS to do it every again..

We did the dream in NY due to it was a new ship and then again on the legend

My friend and I are doing this CTN. We have done 3 before and I can tell you they are a lot of fun and not one long drinking party. We love to go to the shows and just enjoy being at sea.

um, I see it as being Memorial Day that you are going that it will be a little wild and guess what who cares? Matt Mitcham will be your CD and that guy is great. I know for sure there is a formal night on the Saturday night, I also have heard no cheers as well. Problem is I have never heard about bringing your own luggage on. This could get tricky if you want to bring drinks on. Anyone know?

We've done several - all out of NYC. It's a quick get away. We like them. I didn't notice much more partying than other cruises. You do get an "elegant night" which means lobster! They do open the casino and the duty free shops.

It's a little sample if you want to see if you might like to cruise. Fun!

I did the one on the Pride and I'm doing the one on May 31st...I also plan on doing the one in August.

I was seriously surprised with how much I enjoyed one. I've read a lot of complaints about them....but, I guess with anything-it's what you make of it. I do have to say about the partying, it honestly didn't seem worse than any of our past cruises.

Have fun! :)

The price point is a little weird. Double occupancy, obviously.

$582.62 for oceanview (balcony is sort of pointless for a CTN) for the 2-day

$1,061.24 for oceanview for the 5-day to the Bahamas.

I think if I didn't have any time pressure I'd go with the longer cruise. The extra 3 days only cost $480 or so for the cabin. (And that's with port charges, obviously)

I only have to drive 3 hours to get there. I wanted to do something fun for Memorial Day and I can still get back and go to Wrightsville Beach for Sunday and Monday. I wanted to get a little gambling in as I am in the Players Club. I am sitting at 8 Carnival cruises wanting to get to platinum before the annual March cruise we go on, it's with my buddies, its a boat and it only cost me 206.00 bucks. Love it. I did hear no cheers and yes to a formal. Any other insights? The glory has all the new stuff so I am stoked about that!

Subscribing bc I'm considering the May 31st for hubby's birthday. I'd like to see price drop more. We could book last minute.

I see the May 31st sailing is now showing $179/pp for an inside cabin and the same for an outside cabin. Balconies are $279/pp. Be sure when you go to check the rates available that you have your VIFP # where it asks "Check for Special Eligibility" so you can see the Past Guest Friends and Family rates. Remember too that rates are going up and down all the time reflecting how the ship is filling up. Book quick when you see a rate you like. Good luck!

We are doing the October 18th one. I'm pretty excited about it. I think it will be a great week-end get away. I hope you do a review on it when you return!

Kim

We're doing this one, too. Please do a review when you get back, specifically regarding porter service for the 2day out of Norfolk. I don't want to have to haul my own luggage onboard and to my room, since I'll be also doing the 5 day after this one as a b2b. Thanks in advance.

Have a great weekend cruise!

They usually cost more (per day) than longer cruises. I would just book an inside cabin since it's only 2 days and save the money for other stuff. You have to pay the gratuities with final payment, can't do it onboard. They should offer CHEERS because they would make out on a 1.5 day cruise by charging for 2 days.

Does anyone know for sure about the Cheers program on a cruise to nowhere? I think next time I have to call Carnival I'll ask. If I'm not mistaken, the first cruise to nowhere since the Cheers program came out is the one on May 24th.

I am going on the CTN on the 24th and I asked over on Carnival Funville. Someone with ties to Carnival said the Cheers program isn't offered on sailings of 2-4 days so no Cheers program for the CTN. I hope we get on and find out they are offering it, but I won't be disappointed if they don't since it has already been stated that they won't.

I was on the Pride CTN last year. I brought a friend who had never cruised before. She absolutely loved it and can't wait to go again. We didn't think it looked like a 'party" cruise. We saw the shows, played in the casino, ate very well, and generally just hung out. In her case, it was a great 'starter' cruise! I am going on the May 24th cruise with hubby, daughter, and brother. It will be a nice get-away for the weekend. It will also be # 9 for me and my cruise in Sept will be #10! Yay, platinum, finally.:D

I personally have asked for confirmation through Mischelle at CCL. She did confirm that Cheers is NOT offered on short 2-4 day cruises.
