Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2013 Probably won't be as much here as in the prior picture review - no need to duplicate too much. Also not a whole lot of time before our Carnival Sunshine May 17th cruise. :) For lots of pictures from the previous Elation cruise, see here http://www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1782205
Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #2 Share Posted May 3, 2013 Originally booked on the Carnival Sunshine April 12th Inaugural cruise, once Carnival cancelled that cruise we were looking for replacement cruises and there wasn't anything really that could take the place of missing Istanbul. I decided to teach Carnival a lesson. Cancel our cruise? I'll show you! I'll book 3 more! So we ended up on the April 15th Carnival Elation, April 21 Carnival Conquest, and will be doing the May 17th Carnival Sunshine. Some of the highlights from this cruise included tea on the Bridge with the Captain, a return visit to Uxmal, and the Cozumel Bar Hop.
Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted May 3, 2013 I had some business in Baton Rouge to take care of before the cruise, so that was where we had the obligatory pre-cruise stomach stretching exercises at Mike Anderson's. This time it was more than just the two of us, so lots of food porn ops! Dinner Salad with Blue Cheese Fried Alligator Appetizer Crabmeat Au Gratin Shrimp Seven Ways Dinner, Fried, Stuffed, Remoulade, Gumbo, Au Gratin (?), Supreme, Boiled Mike's Special Shrimp, (basically New Orleans BBQ shrimp) Stuffed Eggplant Dinner (shrimp stuffing, topped with crabmeat etoufee)

Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted May 3, 2013 The last time on Elation, I inadvertently booked a cabin that was set up to sleep four. Not needing the extra beds, I went for a little more cabin space. And to be even more different, picked the last cabin on the port side of the ship. Get ready for rock and roll! Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted May 3, 2013 Not much of a night stand on one side of the bed, but there was a shelf of sorts behind the bed, and, of course, the window space. The extra outlet in the bathroom Our cabin steward, Sudi. He was excellent. He also was aware that we were Diamond members, so had been tipped off by his boss. one of my suitcases didn't make it - curses - would have to visit the naughty room. oh bother, I'll deal with that later. Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted May 3, 2013 First more food... Even thought the pizzeria on Carnival Elation is named Pizza Pirate, it is still the old style pizza and they still have calzones. I opted for the goat cheese pizza. Yes, you will have to wait all of maybe 10 minutes while they custom make you one and you have to take the whole pie, which is smaller than say, the pepperoni one. Oh darn, get over it. Sargent_Schultz Posted May 3, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted May 3, 2013 Last time on Elation, someone asked about the depth of one of the pools. If it was this one well, here's the depth there is also an adjacent children's pool but I didn't see a depth. Sargent_Schultz Posted May 4, 2013 Author #19 Share Posted May 4, 2013 I waited my turn to go into the naughty room and claim my bag. Interesting how some professed their innocence. Oh, I only have root beer in my luggage or I only had water. Only to exit from the room exclaiming - Curses, they confiscated my vodka, bourbon, whatever. On the other hand, I knew I was innocent and was wondering what they might confiscate just so they wouldn't have to admit a mistake was made. Finally my turn came, and Surprise!, my bag wasn't even there. What the heck?

Sargent_Schultz Posted May 4, 2013 Author #23 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Well sometimes it seems bags end up at Guest Services so I had to go there to see if I could find my bag. They checked, and sure enough it was there. There was also a ship security guy hanging around. Okay. lets do this and get it over. No so fast - someone from housekeeping needs to be present. Huh? Oh well. So more waiting while they were paged and after a few minutes showed up. They asked if I had anything unusual in my bag. Huh? The only thing that came to mind was a hiking pole since I was planning to return to Uxmal and this time climb one of the structures. It is normally rubber tipped, but underneath is a pointy thing which would be more effective on ice and such. I suppose it could look like, and for that matter act like, a spear, but they didn't seem to be interested in that at all. The only other items that could be of interest were 3 small bottles of water which they shook but also were not interested in. The poked around a little more before abandoning the search with a should shrug and an apology. Unlike days gone by, I really didn't have any contraband. Oh well, on with the cruise! Sargent_Schultz Posted May 4, 2013 Author #24 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Man, that pool needs a major overhaul. Most people prefer the main pool anyway. I think next year the whole ship will be getting a major overhaul.
