critcatny Posted June 30, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2013 Hi, I will be stopping in St Thomas in Aug for the 3rd time. I've been up to Paradise Point, never to Mountaintop though. Is it different enough to make it worth the money or will it be pretty much the same as Paradise Point (just higher)? THANKS
Ms411 Posted June 30, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2013 Completely different. If you haven't been there, it's worth seeing at least once.
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 30, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2013 It's a different experience. I would visit it. Keith
blue_water Posted July 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2013 Unfortunately the new version of Mountaintop isn't like the original that burned down. It's always been a typical souvenir store with a great view of Magens Bay and not much else, but the original version had more appeal or a better vibe than the new version. We did like going to the original MT because we met locals and folks who retired to STT years ago and had interesting discussions while sipping their banana daiquiri out back. We didn't have this experience at the new MT but of course things change with time. Paradise Point is a great spot to relax after an excursion and before returning to the ship, whereas MT will be a shopping stop and a look at Magens and that's it. You can also get a nice view of Magens Bay from Drake's Seat but there's nothing else there of course. So yes you could stop at MT and enjoy the view and their banana daiquari. They do have the nice Paul Brent beach bags that we like. If you're looking for more of a fun spot (minus the view) there are some fun bars downtown like the Greenhouse (margaritas!) and Coconuts (Backstreet Bushwacker!) both of which also have a great burger.
