SandyAtSea Posted September 5, 2015 #51 Share Posted September 5, 2015 We sail a week from today on Gem and yesterday we received an email with three options to upgrade from our mini-suite - to the 3 BR Haven, 2BR Haven or the 2BR family suite on deck 11 (that's the one we took.) We called back almost immediately after the email popped up and the Havens were already gone. The ship has been sold out for quite awhile, doesn't even appear on September sailings anymore if you try to book it, so I was surprised to see ANY offers for upsells. I am Platinum but I don't think that has anything to do with it. This is the 3rd time out of 9 NCL cruises that I have received either a call or email for an upsell, the first two times I was traveling solo and ended up in a suite and this time my husband is going with me so we're going to love the extra space. tymike Posted September 5, 2015 #52 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I've had two upgrade/upsell offers from NCL. One was for a CTN on the Gem several years ago. I had an Aft suite and was upsold for a OS which I loved. On my BA cruise last summer I called my PCC due to a price drop and he offered a spa Haven suite to replace my FF penthouse suite. I declined due to the fact that all my sailing party were in staterooms next to each other. I will say that the first upsell to the OS on the Gem has 'made' me book the same room on the gem last summer and again for next summer. NCL seems to know what they what they are doing or have done with regard to upsells! :)
Emilfear Posted September 5, 2015 #53 Share Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) It would be so nice to heard from anyone from the UK who has been offered an upgrade, I know loads of people who use NCL but no offers so far. We have previously sailed the Epic and it was our friends from the USA that had been offered last minute upgrades by phone Edited September 5, 2015 by Emilfear
Casino Comp Chick Posted September 5, 2015 #54 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Has anyone ever cruised with Casinos at Sea and been offerred an up sell ? That would be amazing. This is my 5th cruise and my 3rd with NCL. After my 1st NCL cruise I was hooked, the freestyle cruise is juat my style. Yes, I received an offer for July and my friend was offered one for May. Both were CAS bookings
crayola1932 Posted September 5, 2015 #55 Share Posted September 5, 2015 13 cruises, 3 upsell calls, of which we accepted two. We always book directly with NCL (except for our very first cruise). We always book a GTY room (never been disappointed). No rhyme or reason as far as I can see, although I'm not surprised that we got an upsell for our first cruise from an inside to a balcony--that must happen a lot. Upsells seem to be rarer and more expensive in recent years.
mrobstad Posted September 6, 2015 #56 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I stay in constant touch with my PCC. Last three cruises upgraded from studio to balcony!
MerDub Posted January 26, 2016 #57 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Just booked an inside GTY (prices were VERY low for it) for a sailing less than 3 weeks away and did not receive our assignment. Booked directly through NCL, first had a courtesy hold (ok, a few consecutive courtesy holds) on the room then when I saw Inside GTY was sold out I called my PCC (whom I had spoken to a number of times already) and gave him my payment info immediately. Told him right away that we'd be interested in an upsell or free upgrade if possible and do not care about the location on the ship. We are 30 years old and are not bothered about mid-ship, aft, forward, noisy, high deck, low deck, etc... we just want the largest cabin we can get. In the meantime I've been checking prices and availability multiple times a day haha. Maybe something will work out. Anyone ever heard of someone who booked an inside GTY ending up in the Haven? A girl can dream haha! Even an OV would be great though.

MerDub Posted January 26, 2016 #59 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Sure- for about the difference in cost between the Inside and the Haven. Hahaha! Actually it looks like most of the Haven rooms are sold out, except the Haven Spa Suites. All the OV categories except GTY are sold out too. If it wasn't such a huge price jump from IX to OX I would definitely have done the oceanview guarantee. OX to BX is only a few dollars as well, and then the MS is also very close in price. I'm sure some people are very happy about that.
