Grandeur Engine Trouble

Recommended Posts

Was on the gos 6/19/05 cruise to bermuda. First time. Rough first morning. Had no problems food was good. vaughn our waiter was great.Someone at our table wanted ranch dressing he went to deck four to get it. I even arrived to dinner late and he was right there with the menu. He was nice at every table he served. rogoberto our stateroom attendent was so nice always greeting us in the hall asking if we needed anything. He made sure if my wife was fine when it was rough when she was sick. Only thing I saw were bartenders at the pool bar goofing around with each other once. They were picking on the one bartender must of been a new guy. Didn't bother me. One night we were on the back of the ship by the rock wall. My buddy went to get drinks for us and the waiter came all the way back to us with the drinks. The ship in my opinion it was big. You should if seen the one my parents went on in the 80's that thing was small. I would cruise with rccl again. Sorry bout your luck. Also the dealers at the casino were great to.

Fay,

Too bad that you had a bad cruise. When you had problems with the waiter did you tell the head waiter or the Maitre D, they could have helped you with any problems that you might be having.

There will always be situations that do not meet your approval, sometimes it might be easier to overlook these and just look at the good things, afterall you are on vacation.

If you look for problems then you certainly will find them, nothing is perfect.

Someone earlier asked what the red lights on the fly mast where. Two red lights, one on top of the other is NUC or Not Under Command.

It tells the other vessels in the area to stay clear as the vessel is unable to correctly control it's course. If it was Red White Red that is RAM or Restricted in Ability to Maneuver. Both of these signals would be appropriate depending on the level of difficulty the vessel was experiencing (Captains call - with input from the Bay pilot on board).

10th out of 19. Makes it one of the small ships. Nine larger. There is your truth.

This would be like looking at the glass either half full, or half empty.

Most people see this as half full (on the larger size)

You see it half empty (9 larger)

This might explain why you cruise was the way it was

I guess it is all in this poster's perception which to put it kindly is somewhat skewed. After all, she considers a ship that is 20,000 GRT smaller, 200 feet shorter, and 10+ feet less wide as being bigger than the one she just sailed on. Certainly the Vision class ships don't have many of the features unique to the Voyager class, but neither do any of the NCL ships. I think that we have beaten this horse to death and will never convince Fay by providing facts (never let the facts interfere with anyone's opinions):) Besides, questioning those opinions doesn't exactly bring out the best in the poster, judging from her responses. (at least I hope that isn't the best)

She? WOW! Just dawned on me that this poster, Fay is a female. With the kind of language she is dishing out, I thought the OP was a male.

I have been on the Vision (sister to Grandeur) and loved her size. Have also been on the Voyager class and Radiance class. I would have to say that the Voyager class is my favorite, but they are all special for different reasons. ;)

Does anyone have any updates on when the Grandeur left Baltimore for the July3 sailing, when it is due to reach Bermuda, leave Bermuda, and arrive in Baltimore on July8?

I think the last "on topic" message here was that they had fixed the problem and that the ship was on the published schedule. I haven't seen any confirmation of that, however. Anyone in Bermuda who can tell us if she got there on time? :)

I think it is hard to believe that no one has posted on Cruise Critic about the

engine problem with Grandeur..... If anyone on board is monitoring... Please

let us no what the deal is ! ;)

How is everything going ? What type of repair did they perform ?

Jeff, I sailed on the Norwegian Sea to Bermuda, I think 2 years ago. I don't agree that it was much smaller, but the layout was better. Rooms not that great, but the public areas were pretty.

Glad that you at least admit that the 115sq. ft Oceanview staterooms and 126sq. ft Deluxe oceanview staterooms weren't that great. :D To me, compared to the outside rooms on Grandeur, they would be considered claustrophobic and even smaller than the rooms that early RCI ships (Song of Norway, Nordic Prince and Sun Viking) were notorious for. Those ships were approximately 18,000 GRT (Sun Viking) and 27,000 GRT (Song of Norway, Nordic Prince) - Hate to think how you would have described the size of those ships. :)

Well, I called RCCL and they said the Grandeur was due in to Bermuda at 5pm today. No word on the ETA back into Baltimore on July 8. I'm curious though, I have some friends going out on the 8th.

5pm ?...Hmmm, thats not cool...I think she was scheduled for the Dockyard

at 9am. I hope everything will be fixed while there.....If not she will have to

leave Bermuda much earlier to be in Baltimore by 8AM....

According to my friend, who was waiting to board Grandeur on Sunday: they had to go slow (18 knots) and would not get to Bermuda until 5 pm on Tuesday and they had to leave port at 12 noon on Wednesday in order to make it back by friday morning! So my question is she going to be fixed so the remaining cruises will be on schedule or will this slow pace continue?

Just called RCCL about engine trouble......the part is on board and it is being fixed right now. Everything should be back to normal by the July 8 sailing. I also asked if it would be late and no word yet on that. Hope that helps make everyone feel a little better.

I'm so sorry to hear about the Grandeur having more trouble! We were on her June 10-19 and had a great time. I remember all the stress about changed iteneraries and re-changed iteneraries and crashes and potential drydock and tropical storms... it was enough to make us nuts before we got on it. We had a really great time though. So great that we are already planning on going back next year and possibly even again this Fall. :)

Good luck everyone. You'll have a great cruise. :D
