Freedom of the Seas Back to Back Day Extravaganza 8/18 & 8/25

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends – We want to share our fabulous “Back to Back” experience on The Freedom of the Seas. We flew to Tampa on Friday night after work, to spend the weekend with our family on the gulf coast. We got a one way rental from Tampa to Cocoa Beach. We used points and stayed at the Clearwater Hyatt.

On Sunday, we left Clearwater at 8am heading to PC. We arrived at the Port, to drop our bags off at 11:45am.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why people don’t drop off the luggage at the ship before returning the car!!!!!!!!

We had a case of water with a luggage tag on it, but the Porter said they do not accept the cases anymore. He did help us break down the case so we could put the bottles into our suitcases. We then drove the 2 plus miles to return the car.

We were back at the Port at 12:30pm. Still having the Independence Port Everglades Terminal 29 3 hour catastrophe on the mind, I expected the worst. Thankfully, it only took us 14 mins from door to “Ding.”

We were lucky enough to have the same cabin for both weeks – Owner’s Suite 1348 on the back of the hump.

As we looked out at the balcony we could see them lifting supplies up to deck 11 above us.

After an easy muster drill, we went to the Sky Bar for our customary sail away drink - The Guavarita. The bartender said we dont have any guava, but it is on board and should be delivered later today. I settle for an Appleton and Coke and head to our massive balcony for sail away.

We were surprised to see Disney sail away ahead of us

Then we heard the ambulance sirens approaching

We really felt sorry for this guy.

9681684907_21072abafd_z.jpg

We then buttoned up and said goodbye to PC!!!!!!!!!!!

After a very relaxing day at sea

We woke up backing into Labadee

9684842401_63f443251b_z.jpg

We got off the ship and headed to Swim Shoe Beach (Barefoot Beach)

WARNING - BRING YOUR SWIM SHOES!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Willie, we had "over the water" cabana #5

One of the perks of Barefoot Beach is the upgraded buffet. The steak was good, and the shrimp was great. (Sorry no food porn)

9684842367_caa2dd87b8_z.jpg

We had a wonderful time in and out of the water.

Actually, we were the last people to leave Swim Shoe Beach (Barefoot Beach)

9684842265_fafc760c37_z.jpg

We boarded our golf cart limo back to the ship.

The security lines were very long, but moved quickly

Ever wonder what they do with the old mattresses?

Good bye Labadee - Thanks for another great time!!!!!!

Was there a lot of traffic on the drive from Tampa to Port Canaveral? We are taking a flight out of Tampa on our return day and was trying to determine how long the drive will be.

Thanks

This morning the very loud pilot boat woke us up.

9685212355_7b8bd6c6e6_z.jpg

We watched the Capt do a 180 and reverse into the Falmouth port.

9688450662_99ff199e1b_z.jpg

We then got off, headed to Nazz, our favorite Jamaican restaurant, and had a traditional West Indian breakfast - curry chicken, salt fish and fried dumplings.

Yummy!!!!!!

We then came back to the port and grabbed the $10 pp one way shared taxi/bus to Doctor’s Cave Beach in Mobay. As we exited the Port, the van driver stopped to let a woman on. The lady then identified herself as the tour guide. She told us the bus would be making a 30 min shopping mall stop before continuing to the beach. This had never happened during the 4 times we had been to Falmouth in the past.

To make a long story bearable – after a short delay we were at the beach enjoying the sun and the rum!!!!!!

9685212271_68da9de283_z.jpg

Another great beach day until it started to pour.

9685212255_9cab54ab7e_z.jpg

We headed back to the ship. Before boarding we had great pretzels and great beef patties.

No traffic at all. 75 mph the entire way. Should take about 2:30.

Thanks for the review - quick question. Did you like the location of cabana OTW #5?

We liked #5 but #7, on the otherside of the beach is our favorite

Two and a half hours drive time from Pt. Canaveral is the fastest you could possibly make it. Since it will be on a Sunday traffic shouldn't be horrible but for two caveats. One check to see if there is a home Tampa Bay football game that day since their stadium is quite near the airport. Also we were in Tampa a couple of weekends ago and the neverending construction on I -275 slowed us down a good bit.

Of course if you get off the ship bright and early there will be less traffic. You can't avoid tolls any way you go but if you take the 417 to I-4 instead of staying on 528 to I-4 there will be a lot less traffic.

This morning when we woke up, we were already on station tendering. A suite / D+ perk we enjoyed today was preferred tendering. Concierge Willie walked us right down to the awaiting tender.

9685350009_f0949c17ee_z.jpg

In Port with us, another tug boat :-)

9688589074_f6c40f5ee0_z.jpg

We jumped into a $4 pp taxi to Royal Palm

9688589062_9cdcfc26e7_z.jpg

Drinks were just OK, but the food was great. Salt and pepper wings are amazing

9688589028_25f5c7fb08_z.jpg

Once again the afternoon rains came, but the rain did not chase us back to the ship

9688589150_d8bb95fe06_z.jpg

9688589008_f2601b6fce_z.jpg

When we got back to the Port, the tender line was huge, but standing at the front of the line was good ole Willie waving suite and D+ guests in. How about starting preferred tendering at Coco Cay :-)

Another day in Cozumel

9685714801_ee76db3778_z.jpg

I’m always amazed at how clear the water is at the port.

9685714803_f117f21a7e_z.jpg

We always go to Nachi Cocum. So this trip we decided to….. go to Nachi Cocum

9688952972_4ae9240371_z.jpg

The weather wasn't great, but the food, drinks and service were better than ever.

9688951940_81d6fbd972_z.jpg

Mid day we heard sirens and saw 2 boats speeding into the pier. Looks like a diving accident occurred.

9685713911_2f9120d317_z.jpg

Hope this guy is ok...

A $15 taxi back to the ship followed by a calm day at sea. Sadly, week 1 is coming to a very quick ending...

We were lucky enough to have the same cabin for both weeks – Owner’s Suite 1348 on the back of the hump.

We were on FOS in June and had Suite 1334, which was the front of the hump. Your cabin looks in better condition than ours was. Our couch and chairs with the table all had stains on them. We covered them with towels and made a note on our comment form that the furniture needs cleaning/replacement. However, the location of those cabins were perfect!

Our couch was awful and our bed was very old. We have been in 1334 before but the flushing from the above bathroom drove us crazy. Did it bother you? 1348 was very quiet.

Warning – anyone doing a back to back please remember to bring everything in from the balcony. The cleaning crew comes thru with a high powered hose and soaks the place...

It was interesting to see all of the dividers open.

Following the consecutive cruise process, all the back to backers met in the Pharaohs Lounge.

9689187644_ec7c4a447d_z.jpg

We were then escorted thru customs. The agent barely looked at our passports.

We then went into a holding area where Diamond Concierge Bertie distributed our new seapass cards. We then reboarded the ship.

Here is a picture of the promenade with the fire door closed

Since no one on the roll call wanted to set up a cabin crawl, we had our own. The Royal Suite is amazing!!!!!

One of the great things about this cruise, besides back to back, was the fact our Moms were joining us for the 2nd week. They were flying in together from NYC on Jetblue. Mike from Executive VIP did a great job getting them to the ship at 12:30pm. Windjammer lunch was hectic due to a Coast Guard inspection, muster drill #2 and it was time for sail away.

9686083897_f892463f2e_z.jpg

No medical emergencies this week so we pulled out ahead of Disney

Too funny you mention the flushing .. we couldn't figure out what that noise was for days! We thought it was the air vents but then one day it hit me as we were walking on deck 11, it was the ladies room! Yes, between the noise and the stained couch, chairs, and our bed was old too and on top of it the pull out couch mattress was in such bad shape they brought in a rolloway for our daughter to sleep in. This was by far, the worst cabin we've had on RCCL. We are going back to Grand Suites with connecting balcony for next years June and July trips.

We decided to rent a cabana so the Moms would be more comfortable. One of the bad parts is they are 1st come 1st serve. So Paulette made us get up early so we could get a “good” cabana. We took the 1st tender over and left our stuff in Cabana #5.

9693918834_bcd364274c_z.jpg

9693913856_b4965818e3_z.jpg

We then tendered back for the Family then back to the cabana. It was worth it since we got the cabana we wanted.

We had a good beach day. The buffet was very good.

Another calm day at sea heading to St Thomas

9694985088_9f54063e26_z.jpg

Arriving around noon we docked behind Disney & The Dream Tugboat

9694985072_c78afb503b_z.jpg

We took an $8 pp taxi to Megan's Bay which has a $4 entrance fee

9694985054_abaa96dec3_z.jpg

You have to rent chairs in the gift shop. Remember to keep your ticket to get your deposit back.

9694985192_bc91a004db_z.jpg

The snack bar had pizza and burgers, no local food.

9694985124_370f5d0096_z.jpg

The bar had amazing bushwackers!!!!!!!!!

9694985188_47da9f07b5_z.jpg

Another great beach day minus the normal afternoon showers...

Today is port number 7 and our final stop. Good morning St Martin.

9695605022_1002ed029c_z.jpg

Since we always go to Orient Beach we decided to try something new. We took an $8 pp taxi to Mullet Bay Beach.

9695604880_b82eb1f1b9_z.jpg

Mullet Bay is one beach over from Maho so we could see the planes landing to the left of us

9692374311_4049136329_z.jpg

We had an amazing time on this perfect beach. 2 chairs and an umbrella $15.

There is an amazing bar and snack hut. The rum punch and ribs were amazing!!!!!!

9692374245_1e77ebe8d6_z.jpg

9692374249_3d7cf19ea4_z.jpg

9692374261_143ae4a2db_z.jpg

We had the best beach day of the entire back to back. When we were ready to leave, the bartender called a taxi for us and we headed back to the Freedom.

2 sea days, an easy disembarkation, a great Executive VIP limo ride to MCO, a smooth Jetblue flight and we were back home.

I don't know why you had first come first served on the Coco Cay Cabana's?? I hope this is not new. We booked with the concierge and the cabana was already assigned to us already when we arrived. We just requested an ocean view and we were assigned Cabana #1 which we loved. We could arrive whenever we wanted. I would not be happy having to get up early and race over there to get a cabana.
