"Rock of Ages" perfectly represents Breakaway

Gotta agree with you here. I had to shake my head at a couple of posts where parents proudly declare "I'm taking my kids" LOL OceanBlue - I thought I read (and I may have misunderstood) that some of those show portrays underaged sex? Pedophilia? Please clarify that. Thanks!

Would it help if I cover his eyes or tell him to cover his eyes? He's only 6. We do watch PG-13 together sometimes, and if something comes up, I ask him to cover his eyes. Titanic as an example was just on ABC family. The part where Rose and Jack do "it" in the car...he closed his eyes.

LOL I remember those days - holding the hands over the eyes so they couldn't see LOL!

Awesome! I bet your son loves your SIL!

Oh she had favorite aunt status for quite a while. *LOL*

He has never been a big heavy metal fan , so the performers and the lyrics weren't such a big deal to him. And he was 14 so it wasn't like he was a baby.

But he thought the crowd itself was pretty good people watching. I hear it is quite a sea of humanity at those things. I was never much of a "Quick cover their eyes " kind of parent, so he certainly didn't lose his visual virginity that day.

Like i said the Prince of Darkness took a back seat to a 16 yr old girl that day. :)

The best .....the absolute best... It was a really great time. It was freer and not as puritanical as the 50s and it wasn't any where near as dangerous as today with the gangs and the guns and all the crap of today.

Funny. The 80's I remember had guns and gangs (crypts and bloods). What we didn't have were 200 news channels fighting for the stories of the latest drive by.

Not as wide spread as it is now.

Sure you always had that crap in the projects and the inner cities. But in the suburbs it was very rare. As long as you didn't go where you didn't belong you were pretty safe.

You had a beef with someone in a club or a bar. A couple of punches got thrown , but no one came back an hour later with an Uzi.

OK...maybe I was paying too much attention to the music, but OP I've seen you post the term "Beastiality" more than a few times. I don't even recall any animals even being in the show.

Did I miss it?

You do not remember the llama!? :)

They talked, briefly, about it early on. Then at the end keep your eyes on the top of the stairs. It was funny and completely in keeping with the plot, but some younger kids might want to know why that man was doing those things to the llama.

I mentioned we saw the show twice. Once from middle right (audience members right hand side), and the second time from front left. I preferred the left side for the better view of the stairs. I think sitting a little farther back was better because from too far up front you could see some of what looked like hair wig lines and such. The reserved Haven seats were middle left and if I could choose again I would sit just in front of them.

I have been on 20 cruises in as many years. At an average of 3 big production shows per cruise, that makes about 60 shows. The only show I think I saw twice was Disney Dreams, and before my cruise on the Breakaway, that show was my favorite. No more. Rock of Ages easily surpassed it. Why? Because it is 100 minutes (very long by ship standards) of incredible music, singing, and dancing. I laughed, I cried, I stomped my feet, and I tried my best not to sing along (it was not easy). At the end I was part of the quickest, most complete standing ovation I have ever seen on a cruise ship, so I know I was not the only one that felt that way. My whole family liked this show so much we did stand-by the next night and saw it again.

Why do I think this show perfectly represent the Breakaway? Because, although it was the best cruise ship show I have ever seen, it was also easily the most inappropriate show I have ever seen on a cruise ship. Scantily clad girls and boys (and we are talking underwear here, not bathing suits). Simulated sex acts that included Oral (for both girls and boys), Heterosexual, Homosexual, Strip Club lap dances, Under Age and even Bestiality. Oh, and there were even a couple of Germans thrown into the mix (inside joke if you have not seen it). Again, best show ever, but I sure am glad my kids were old enough to handle it.

The Breakaway is similar. Wonderful in its own way, yet truly inappropriate in many others. Fabulous casino – but I could not last very long before my eyes were tearing from the smoke. Incredible water slides and ropes course – but so crowded you cannot find a deck chair or fit into the pool. Incredible Cirque style show, but you pay through the nose to see it. It seems like every big positive also has a big negative to go with it. The reviews for Breakaway are similar. Love it or hate it – few people are in between these extremes.

For those keeping score, in the last month Breakaway’s overall rating in the Member’s review section has actually dropped another couple of points and now stands at only 61%.

We thought Rock of Ages was excellent and like you caught it again another night but only for an hour because we had other plans that evening. We really LOVED it. On the other hand, we are part of the few people that are in between the love/hate feelings about the ship. You said it perfectly....for every big positive there comes along a big negative.

That overall rating drop to 61% is really low. For a new ship....not good.

You're completely right in your review of Rock of Ages. It's funny... I've seen the Broadway production three or four times. It's great for when people from out of town come to visit... and people have the "love it or hate it" reaction every time. I really enjoy the show, my best friend can't stand it... and we usually agree on just about everything entertainment related.

Five of us watched it two nights ago. We all agreed that the time would have been better spent elsewhere. Brand new cast this week...though they were ok. Two in our group saw the show in Vegas a few months ago and thought it was 10 times better there (though that's no surprise)!
