Adults with no children on Disney

Hi there-

I have always wanted to do a Disney cruise but concerned because it seems to be geared more for kids. We don't have children and don't mind them. But we do like to have a few drinks when cruising. Is alcohol flowing as freely on DCL as it is on other lines? Would we be ok without kids? Thanks and happy cruising.

You will have a great time! Wife & I did the Fantasy in February. We are doing the Dream next February.

On deck, adult area forward has a pool bar, regular bar, and plenty of servers who come right to your chair.

They have an elegant bar between Palo & Remy. This also has 2 outside areas on each side of the ship. One smoking one not.

In the adult district they have several bars. Sports pub, champagne bar, night club, and our favorite Skyline. The bars do not stay open late. By midnight we are usually exhausted anyway.

Hope this helps!

Lots of people do it, there are adult only pools, areas, restaurants and also an adult beach at castaway cay, whilst Disney caters for kids lots of adults only cruise. something to consider is to cruise when schools are in and then there will be less kids and the prices should be lower.

Note that you need to consider school holidays of Mexico UK and Spain which might differ slightly from the USA.

You will enjoy it and on DCL you see all ages, grand parents sail with parents sail with kids, but the kids are in the kids clubs!!

We cruised with dd on Disney, but I'd jump at cruising without her (in 16 years, lol) no issues.

The week felt less kid focused than Carnival did...And since it wasn't during Thanksgiving or school holiday, there weren't a ton of kids running crazy.

There were kids, but not like 'holy cow, get me out of here!'

They do a great job of keeping kids out of the nightclub areas at in the evenings (it is adult only after 9). They do a pretty good job of keeping them out of adult only programs. The do much less of a good job of keeping them out of the adult only areas on the pool decks (adult pool and environs and Cove Cafe...and they make no effort to limit those "walking" thru or coming to chat with mommy.

Sorry, but I'm a bad person. I'm not really bothered by a child WALKING thru an adult only area quietly, but running, skating on wheelies, screaming, crying, etc. is just disruptive. I see no reason that they should even walk thru, but I'm fighting a losing battle there. As to coming to the adult only pool to chat with a parent--there are wave phones. Worst case, the parent should stand up and escort the child out of the area while they have their discussion. Yes, I'm a parent. And my adult child remembers when she wasn't allowed thru the doors on 9 forward!

We just got back from the Dream..no kids and had a great time. It's a misnomer that DCL is only geared towards kids. Their daily bulletin had a schedule divided into three parts: kids only, everyone, and adults only. There is plenty to do and we found this cruise to be our most relaxing yet.

I shared the exact same concern. I'm a single man who'll be 50 next year, and I really wanted to do a Disney cruise. Finally, I just bit the bullet and decided to book myself onto one.

Shortly afterwards, a read a review by Gambee -- a wildly popular poster here on the boards -- who sailed on the Disney Dream (same boat I'll be going on) with his mom and a friend. Three adults, no kids... and they had a fantastic time. They spent most of their time in the "adults only" pool area, which has a nice looking bar... and is exactly where I assume I"ll be spending most of my time when not sitting on my aft-facing balcony watching the water!

Did you know, OP, that DCL has a BYOWhatever policy? Whatever and however much you want, provided that you can carry it on your person and it fits through the security TSA style scanner, you can bring it on with you. Same goes for island purchases. Only cruise line I have seen that doesn't police your bags. As we say, they take all your money upfront, so they aren't as dependent on over priced booze sales as the boozey cruizey lines are. We still thought we got a great value for our investment. We loved making our own sail away margaritas for our veranda.

Disney has a lot of perks...

Absolutely. I've seen more people who've been enjoying themselves with alcohol in hand, and who've had enough (or even 1 too many) on DCL than any other line. Even someone who pulled their 1 liter bottle out of their beach bag at the adult pool to fill up their drink.

I've also been offered more drinks by servers on DCL than any other line I've been on.

They push the alcohol as much as everyone else.

I am a 40 year old single female and took my first Disney cruise (on the Disney Wonder- 5 night caribbean) in April of this year (2013). I don't have children, but I do LOVE Disney and live in Orlando. I had previously been on Royal Caribbean and Carnival a few times.

I will start by saying if I could afford it, I would never sail on another cruiseline again after going on the Disney Wonder. The ship was tastefully decorated, and themed of course, you are on Disney afterall. So much nicer than the tackiness of Carnival. a LOT of thought goes into anything that Disney puts its name on AND Disney is famous for its customer service. They just know how to do things right. Food was fantastic, the rotating dining was extremely nice as you got to dine in really nice and different themed restaurants each night. This alone sets Disney apart from other cruiselines.

All that being said, if you are not a fan of Disney or you don't "get" Disney, I'm not so sure I would recommend Disney Cruiseline. But that depends on what you like to do when cruising. If you are someone who really enjoys casinos, staying up partying until 2am, likes adult themed entertainment....then I dont think you would enjoy a Disney cruise. For me, it was perfect because I like to enjoy a couple adult beverages and listen to some music (which they had a different themed night in the adult lounge at 10:30pm each night), but around midnight, everyone scatters back to their rooms and the ship is a ghost town. That is absolutely fine with me as I got my adult time and I can still go to bed at a decent hour. If you enjoy booze cruises and partying on the deck until 2-3am, you will be VERY disappointed sailing on Disney. I actually liked this aspect of it.

The nightly shows that are in the theatre are Disney themed, meaning if you don't like the princesses, Mickey Mouse and all the characters, you won't enjoy the shows. I live 18 miles from Disney World and I have an annual pass and LOVE all that disney offers, so I adored the shows on board. If you're looking for raunchy adult comedians like onboard Carnival ships...you will not find that on Disney AT ALL. Again, I liked it.

As for sailing without kids, I had no issues with this. There are plenty of activities and areas that are geared to adults. I spent a good deal of time at the adult spa pool/bar area hanging out. However, I also spent time in the family areas because, well, I like being around people. I like watching kids have fun and enjoy themselves and as long as I had a place to escape to if I wasn't in the mood, I was happy. I did not notice a ridiculous amount of ill behaved children....but keep in mind I also go to Disney World about 4x a month so I'm used to all that.

I would definitely recommend a Disney cruise for people with no kids, but only if you enjoy the Disney lifestyle. You're bound to appreciate Disney Cruiseline if you "get" Disney.

Well there you go. You passed the DCL entry exam.

If you like Disney's style of entertainment, you'll love DCL.
