Quick Fantasy question

Getting ready to book a trip as a Christmas gift for my wife. Sailing out of Charleston in Feb. on the Fantasy.

First time we cruised we had a Balcony, second time we went with a porthole room. We really liked the porthole, over the balcony because we never really used the balcony and spent very little time in the room. The Fantasy does not have balcony rooms, so that's not a option this time.

My question is for the extra $100 would you move up to a ocean view room, or stay with the porthole? If you think the ocean view is worth the extra, which part of the boat is better, front, rear or middle?

One more question, we have sailed before in June and July, never in Feb. Should we expect a much smaller crowd, and how much rougher is the water that time of the year?

Thanks for the replies

If you have any concerns about motion sickness, move to an OV & go midship. If that is not a concern, I would definitely not spend an extra $100 for an OV. About $20 extra is as high as I would go. The only difference is a bigger window. I've been more than happy in porthole rooms, seem just as good as the OVs I've had.

We just booked the Fantasy (been on her sister ships 4 times...LOVE the fantasy class). We needed 2 cabins (DH and I and 3 teens) plus MIL and FIL wanted an OV and SIL and her family wanted an OV. Since the fantasy class ships have a trundle for the 3rd bed in the inside cabins, I wanted an OV for 3 of us (us gals) and went with an inside across the hall and a few doors down for the other 2 (the 2 fellas). We booked midship on the Empress deck. I have stayed on the main, upper and empress before (on the fantasy class). Midship is nice for less motion and vibration. But not right off the elevator. Empress deck is nice as the customer service desk, computers and lobby bar is right there and there's a launderette all the way forward. I did not like when we were right off the lobby as it can be noisy, so I recommend between mid and aft on the Empress deck or mid on upper deck. The galley and MDR is above the Empress deck but only cabins will be above and below you on the upper deck (same with main deck). Empress is also a quick shot up to MDR and casino and lounges and not too far up to Lido either.

I'm booked on the Fantasy in an OV midship on deck 6 and will be in it in 9 days!!! Woohoo

Oh, sorry, got distracted. Anyway, originally I was booked in an inside midship on deck 2 and upgraded to the OV on deck 6 and they gave me $50 OBC. I booked ES and the price dropped so I did the upgrade. I'll let you know what I thought of it in about 2 weeks when I do my review. :D

I would prefer an ocean view over a porthole. Also, if you like the cabin cool or cold, the ocean view window will warm up the cabin quite a bit. Not sure about there being less people in Feb., I think you will like the Fantasy...it's a nice change from the larger ships.
