Solarium Zoo on Enchantment of the Seas 7/7/05

You are misunderstanding the problem. It is not the kid who is in the hot tub for 2 seconds when mom is sneezing, it is the one who is in there for 2 hours with his mom feeding him fries as he splashes everyone else in the hot tub.

There is a big difference.

ROFLMAO, Barb! What a great way to express it!

.....next time mabe you should go on an older cruise if you wanted no kids near you.....

No, parents should respect the VERY few areas of the ship that are designated as adults only so that all passengers can coexist peacefully and people of all ages and preferences can enjoy their cruises. There are very few places where children are not allowed. It is not asking too much for the cruise line to enforce this adults only area.

I also pay a lot of money to take my children on a cruise. That doesn't mean that I have the right to force them down other peoples' throats in areas that are clearly marked as adults only. They are not allowed in the casino either, and for good reason, too. Should I demand to be able to bring them there as well, using the "I paid a lot of money to bring my children" argument? If the solarium had special hours designated for kids, that's fine, no problem. Otherwise the kids need to remain in the areas where they are allowed, which quite frankly, is about 95% of all public areas.

Amen!!!

I am a teacher and I will tell you that if more parents had that attitude the world would be a much better place. Kids learn from their parents' example.

As for me, I noticed the same issue last year on VOS. I am going on EOS 8/14 and I will be very upset if this issue continues. I am going to call RCI costomer service and let them know. I urge everyone who is annoyed by this to do the same. It is one thing that we are talking about it here, it is a much bigger deal if these things are written on comment cards AND brought to the attention of the corporate offices by calling customer service directly. I am doing this today....you should do the same.

I will be e-mailing corporate office regarding "adult areas" on the ship being inforced.

Even though there were problems in the Solarium, I can't completely blame the cruise line. The weather was horrid, and frankly, I wouldn't have minded the kids using the Solarium for a few hours, IF 1) it was announced, 2) that parentaly supervision was required. The problem, IMHO, was the lack of parental supervision all over the ship. There were children running around the ship long past bedtime, young children in the discos, young children at PG-13 rated shows, children left to run rampant in the elevators, etc. As I said, we didn't let it ruin our cruise, but my husband and I wondered how kids who had gotten absolutely NO sleep the night before were going to be able to function the next day. And a lot of them were cranky, tired, and overstimulated.

I applaud those parents out there who are doing their jobs. There were quite a few children who were well behaved, and delightful on the ship. Unfortunately there were those who were not.

I agree completely. Although the membership dates back to 2003 Hmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post count? You know the boards post count was reset. Not that it matters.

Did you notice my ;) on my original post?

I was simply pointing out the irony of bumping this thread in context of the threads theme which is people not following the rules.

Its weird that they dont enforce their own rules, but really all you should have to do is ask them to get out or you will report them. Theyll scram.

Princess has youth security, they help, sorda. No kids in adult pools, ever.

Maybe parents should start parenting their kids. I don't think anyone is saying that kids shouldn't be allowed on the cruise, but they should respect the fact that other people are there also. I have no problem with children. As I've stated before I'm a teacher. What I have a problem with is people who let their children do whatever they want because it's easier than hearing son/daughter whine and complain. I like Royal Caribbean and I don't think I or other people need to go elsewhere because a few people don't know how to parent. The sad thing is this is not limited to one cruiseline, or cruising in general. It's a fact of life today that many people don't teach their kids manners. Funny thing is, when you meet a childs parent(s) you usually go 'oh, so that's why he/she is like that.' The saying is true, apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The rude, obnoxious kids that people complain about are just little versions of their rude, obnoxious parents :D

So, now members need to have a certain number of posts before they can point out the short-comings of another's post? Well I have more than 4 posts, so.......kwelguy (and your not looking so cool, by the way) is it ok for YOU to break the rules, after all, YOU are an adult and it IS all about YOU, or do you only obey the rules when convienent for YOU?

Another one on the payroll. How sad.

kwelguy, why is that when someone disagrees with you, and you have no defense to what you are saying you come back with nonsense replies such as the ones referring to post counts or people working for RCCL? I work for noone! I understand your disappointment with the situation on the cruise. What I don't get is your need to bump a thread that has out-lived its usefulness and to also post another nthread with the very same complaint! Write to RCCL. You've done your duty, informed the masses of YOUR opinion of the situation, let it go!

I realize you want the issue to die down. It will only die down if the rules are enforced on future cruises. Take that message back to your bosses.

I believe you are misunderstanding. I responded to this:

French fries in the hot tub were not mentioned anywhere.

I was making the point that kids run up and down stairs. So what? They've been doing it for centuries and they'll continue doing it for centuries. Also, notice that this girl did not even go into the hot tub. She went to test the water. Is that a crime now too? Isn't it funny that Kewlguy didn't mention where she went after that but I'll bet it wasn't in the hot tub or pool. Was she on her way to her cabin and asked her folks to touch the water? My kids did that stuff often when they we young. I'm not one to squash their curiosity. Now had they asked to go in, they would have received a negative response.

Let's keep it in context, folks.

Kewlguy, you know how to use the ignore button, right? ;) :D

I'd be utilizing that feature right now if I were you...

I think a thread is still useful, as long as people are posting to it.

As long as the attacks are not personal, I love a good debate. I would never block anyone. Notice these couple of posters are not questioning the accuracy of my statements but trying to shut me up by saying I broke forum rules. Hmmm.

Well, trying to keep this thread at the top, is no different than the one about bringing alcohol onboard, that always manages to be back at the top about 3 times a week. In fact, someone on that thread said they wanted it to stay at the top, so RCI would see it......

Now back to the regularly scheduled program.............:D

Some of the things you pointed out do have me concerned though, but I will deal with them. I was thinking about the wind too, but not sure that the stretch really has anything to do with that.....don't know.... ...that would not be ood though.......

you ask people to notice that some of us are not questioning the accuracy of your statements. Well, I can't question the accuracy, I wasn't there! I just found it odd that you found it necessary to initiate two threads for the same problem. I also have noticed that you don't answer questions that you are apparantly uncomfortable answering, ie...... the need for the second thread, the rule breaking when it benefits you, and why a person's no. of posts have any bearing on their right to post their opinion. I have no problem with your original post, and did not start to post until the second thread was started. I feel that you are very angry with RCCL, and maybe rightfully, but one thread is making that point. I just wonder about motive when people repeat things on multiple threads. Also, I have attacked noone, and I don't think that Marion mom's comment, the one excluding me from the intelligent readers of this post, was necessary. However, if that is the way she approaches things, so be it. I know who I am.

Thank you ,Kewl, for your original post. I am really looking forward to my vaca w/ my husband and w/o our own kids. I consider myself forewarned and I will follow up on this. If an area is posted "adults" it should be that way, it works at my neighborhood pool. I am a full time Mom - I do not want to have to look out for kids on my vacation, which is why I have a sitter for this trip. The first one in 10 years! This is a once in a life anniversary trip for us. One of the big draws for me was to swim w/ o kids hanging from my neck and getting splashed, smacked, etc. I love taking my kids swimming, but hey, it is more for them than me.There is nothing wrong with taking kids on vacation but if you do, remember, being a parent is your job! Your #1 and full time job. And the cruise line should not promise what it can not deliver. If the weather was so windy there should be a "kid swim" at posted times. This seems an easily remedied situation. Hey, most of us were all kids once. We understand. Thanks for your honesty Kewl, at least now I have my head up. This is our first time on RCL -so forewarned is forearmed - Thanks!

I agree with you Joe. These days it seems the "rules" apply to everyone but "me", if you know what I mean. Sometimes it seems the people complaining the most, have a bottle of wine they "smuggled in", while they are ironing their clothes in their room, and trying to hide from going to muster. LOL :D

Don't forget hogging chairs.

Another one on the payroll. How sad.

This is a big board and not everyone is going to agree with you. Because they are not in agreement that does not mean they are on anyone's payroll and that insult is pretty... well it's not exactly mature now is it? I read your thread with interest and thought you had some really valid points, then I saw your bump and wondered why you had done that when it was against the rules of the board. Then I saw your defense of the bump and you insults and now I am starting to think that you have a "I will abide by the rules I elect to abide" attitude. I am sorry if I am calling this wrong but you are being quite insulting to people and it seems to be getting a little personal. Not everyone is going to agree with you and yes, a cruise is largly what you make it, even though you paid a lot of money for it. Should the kids have been there? Absolutly not. It was rude and insensative of the employees not to addres this. Shame on the parents who could not control their children and shame on them for breaking the rules, but shame on you for bringing this to a level that is argumentative and just plain childish. And no, before you state it, I am not on the RCI payroll.

 Finally someone who realizes why this thread was started in the first place. When an area is for adults only that should be enforced. Its sad that parents who don;t care what the rules are, ruin it for everyone. Kewlguy was just stating a problem on his cruise, and everyone is taking offense, yes things happen on cruises, and sometimes you just have to ignore it, but it seems that this problem, unless solved by RCCL, will affect other peoples cruises as well.
