Secrets Aboard Carnival

On the old thread there was a tip to bring extension cords and multiple plug for the outlet. Can anyone who's sailed recently tell me if this is still a valid tip and what type of extension cord and multiple outlet wall plug should we bring? I know there are some limitations. Thanks!!!

And I'm also very happy the OP started the new thread. Just didn't know what was still valid and what wasn't with the old one.

I cruised recently and can confirm a few items.

*The match play was available from all of the bars I visited. So I can definitely confirm pool bar and Candlelight lounge (Inspiration) where the comedians performed, so I have to think all bars.

*They want to see you playing before they will give you the Casino lanyard....bring your own....not a fan of that ugly thing.

*The best Caesar salad is from the 24 hr pizza station, you can even ask for chicken on it. They will put it together however you want it...extra dressing or croutons.

*The cheese plate is available as a dessert in the main dining room. Ask for it to go and they will wrap it up for you. Works great in a room with a fridge to enjoy on the balcony the next day.

*Pens are still free. I asked for cards in the Platinum line, no problem, no charge. Some kids were asking in the regular line and I think they needed there S&S card to charge (which they apparently did not have with them). Kids were sad, so I asked for a 2nd deck and gave one to the kids. The staff smiled and were OK with that...remember they used to be free to all.

So glad to see this new thread!

Great tips! Will use these. Thank you!!!

This is a great tip. Rooms only have 1 standard AC outlet. I bought one on our last cruise that was a multi-strip with 5 additional plugs and 2 USB ports to charge the iPhones.

Would this one work and would it be accepted? I'm thinking about the six outlet version.

Bringing a multi plug extension cord is a good idea. There is only one outlet near the mirror (the best of my memory) I know there's not one near the bed. ...depending upon how the room is set up...) we had to jockey our plug in items around to keep iPads and phones charged. Thankfully didn't need a clock this time. (We had a porthole). Not yo mention my flat iron and hair dryer. The larger ships have a hair dryer, built in. That makes it nice that you don't have to find a place to plug that in too.

That's good to know about the classic cocktails. I was told by the cashier a few years ago that they had to be purchased at the casino bar and have done it that way ever since.

I don't know if this is a secret or not... I found out a few cruises ago that porthole cabins can be booked at interior rate. We are usually cruising on a budget and I was delighted to have outside light for inside price! The porthole itself it cool in that it provides you with a "window bay" that we use to store souvenirs or other items.

One tip I haven't seen mentioned is this one. You can hang it on the outside of a bathroom or closet door & have lots of pockets to keep things handy and off the counters.

Also on a lot of the new ships they have shower dispensers filled with shower gel and shampoo. So unless you're picky about what you use, you don't have to bring those 2 items.

Yes, I am booked in a porthole cabin, it is under the Interior category. When you go to "Deck Plans" on the Carnival website, you can put in your room # and see pics and 360 degree views.

CATEGORY 4J.....considered inside also. We stayed in one on the Glory...GREAT FOR THE price. Window....secret deck. The only downfall, if it matters to you, most of them do not have sofa's.

As far as the outlets, on our last cruise (the Miracle) we "found" that when you remove the panel behind the TV, there is an extra outlet. We used this for our laptops. We also had an extension cord (I had read that as long as they looked new, no one would say anything) & the 3 outlet plug with 2 UB outlets.

If booking a porthole (category PT) do not book using Early Saver if you can find it cheaper other than Early Saver because The PT cabins usually sell out quickly ...

I always take Lysol spray and wipes. When I get to the cabin I wipe everything down where you can touch.

I also take a sleeve of saltine crackers. Will never forget my first cruise was a all girls cruise the first night I had way too much to drink. I really needed some saltines and a ginger ale. It took forever for my friends to find the saltines. While I don't drink like I used to its still nice to have just in case!! Lol

I also try to keep the # of dressy shoes I take to a minimum by packing clear heels. Of course I am always afraid the heel will break so I have to take a spare!!

Sometimes the infirmary have pockets of motion sickness and other meds for free...........sometimes not. :o

BTW, I have read the other long thread, thanks for the updated version. Carnival has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years!

Here is a tip....I know most people carry a supply of various medicine just in case they get sick. My last cruise while in Jamaica I fell and sprained my ankle really bad. I went to the doctor on board the ship and they xrayed it and everything and then wrapped it in an extremely flimsy ace bandage type thing that they had to tape to keep on. They charged $18 for the bandage and $3 for the tape which didn't work very well. The ace bandage thing got really stretched out and weird looking from the tape.

Anyway...an ace bandage is a small thing to also throw in your suitcase and not something people think they will need. Me either....until I needed it. It will now become part of my medical supply box. I am sure they cost way less than $18.

Loving this thread! As well love the cheese plate idea...will be trying it out on the Legends next month!

Me too. I'm just sad I didn't know about this on my last cruise. We did a 12 day in Europe, got a bottle of wine at every stop and sat out on the balcony and drank it while leaving port. A cheese plate would have been perfect. I can't this cruise because I'm pregnant. :(

Next time, book early saver and price match immediately to the lower rate.
