This is all we could see of the NaPali coast :(

Bummer. We were going to take a tour boat of the Na Pali coast (for our 2nd/shorter day in Kauai) - but the one that had the highest/best ratings ...included snorkeling which 3 out of the 4 of us don't want to do.................so the search continues!

Oh how sad. We go to Kauai a lot and never had that kind of weather. I've probably seen the NaPali coast 5 times and it never looked like that. Just another reason to go back ;-)

I know you sort of answered this already, but I do assume that they serve some sort of breakfast on disembark day.. you just have to be up early right?

We went to cagney's at 8:15 and were served a full breakfast. We were not rushed off the ship. The buffet is also open on disembarkation day.

It was really the only bad weather we had :(. It was pouring rain. I know the captain turned us around at some point but it didn't matter...couldn't see a coastline at all. We will definitely have to go back now ;)!!

We decided to have my husband drop me and the girls off with all our bags at that port and have him drive the car back to rental place. He pulled up and a porter came right over and loaded all our bags. My older daughter decided to ride with DH to drop off car. I followed porter in and tipped him, then off our bags went. Easy so far!! We sat in the building waiting for DH and DD to come back and I watched the lines of people come and go (we were there almost an hour before they came back). People were struggling to drag the bags to be dropped off and it seemed odd to me as usually porters grab the bags before anyone gets in the building. The lines would build up, but no one seemed to have to wait longer than 10-15 minutes to get through security (I kept my eyes on a lady with on orange shirt so I could get an idea how long it was really taking). As soon as DH and DD returned, we got in line and were through security in less than 10 minutes. We went to the VIP line for suites/latitudes, but the man that checked us in didn't seem to realize we were in a suite. I told my husband I didn't think we should be there, and that they usually give you room cards and introduce you to butler/concierge inside but he told me "I'm sure he knows what he's doing". It was when he went to the file boxes to find our room cards that it must have registered with him, because he couldn't find our cards, then he said "Oh, you need to come with me", and brought us to the suite waiting area;)....no apologies from DH:rolleyes:.

From there, we waited about 3 minutes, were handed our cards and then escorted onboard to Cagneys. We met Tom, the concierge, and he gave those of us there a little run-down of how things work (Cagneys for breakfast, tendering in Kona, dinner reservations, etc). Then we were brought in for lunch. Yay!! We were finally onboard!!

I have a quick question .

Did you and your family ever dine in your suite for dinner? I have read somewhere that suite passengers are provided menus you can order from to have brought to your suite for dinner . Which I though would be great on the nights we are too exhausted from long days sightseeing .

Any info you could share would be most Appreciated.

I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed every post from your cruise and your pictures are beautiful. You posts about the car rentals also answered a few of my concerns about how the rental car parking and shuttles work .

Thanks a ton !!

We paid in advance online for the Paradise Cove Luau and chose to drive out ourself. We got there at 5pm. The skies were turning dark, and it started to sprinkle as soon as we got our complimentary mai tai and were shown where our seats were. We walked around a bit, then it started raining a little harder. The staff came around and handed out rain ponchos to everyone. People started congregating under the shops and bars for cover. It was raining really hard. I asked my husband if we should just leave because I had no desire to sit in pouring rain to eat dinner, but we were afraid we wouldn't be reimbursed, so we stood under the cover with everyone else. After about 30 minutes of this, the staff came by and told everyone that dinner and the show was canceled and everyone would be reimbursed. I was glad that we didn't have to sit in the rain, but kind of upset because I was looking forward to the whole luau experience. Oh well, nothing we could do. (A girl in line in front of us stated she lives 15 minutes from the luau and it has never rained there before. It did seem to be an unusual occurrence for them. I felt bad that they lost all that business that night.)

We made it back to our hotel that night just minutes before the road was closed for the holiday parade. We watched the parade go by from our balcony.

Off to bed early...tomorrow is the big day!!

So sorry for you...we did the Paradise Cove luau this past September and LOVED it! What a beautiful facility; and the entertainment was fantastic. I hope you get another shot at it sometime.

We ordered room service a couple of times (mostly just salads for the girls or chicken wings from the Cadillac Diner), but usually went out to eat. The main reason is that although our room was labeled a "suite", there wasn't a real table or chairs to eat at. We had a small coffee table in the living room and 2 tiny tables on the balcony. I honestly don't think 8202 should be called a suite other than for the HUGE balcony and 2nd bedroom. The bathroom was worse than the bathroom I had on the Carnival Glory (just a regular balcony room). If they had a decent sized table with 4 chairs out on the balcony (which is the only place in that room where it could possibly go), then we would have had a meal or 2 in there. We didn't get a "suite" feeling with this room, but it didn't really take anything away from our vacation. The 2nd bedroom was very nice to have, and the balcony was amazing!!!

Thank You for responding to my question . That would have been hard to enjoy a meal with no real seating options .

Were you supplied with special menus ? Or just the standard room service ?

Your reviews and information has been wonderful to read . I have really enjoyed them :)

Thanks again for taking the time to share with us :))

I agree! We were in the same suite over the holidays and my daughter ordered room service for breakfast one morning. One cabinet surface holds the huge coffee maker, one the tv and the other had the appetizers from the evening before. We were scrambling to find space for her to put her tray. My husband and I had the adjoining balcony cabin and our bathroom was the same as the suite's -tiny! But the suite balcony was wonderful!

We did not have special menus in our "suite", but I would imagine the bigger suites would have them (we had menus for every restaurant in the buffet drawer when we stayed in the garden villa on the Dawn).

I did a lot of research here before we arrived in Hawaii, and I got a lot of great tips. We left from Newark airport and flew to LA then to Honolulu. (I was nervous because our layover was only 42 minutes, but we made it no problem and me and younger daughter decided to splurge for first class with lay-flat seats!!! Definitely the way to travel:D). Our flights were smooth and we arrived in Honolulu to warmth and sunshine!!

We stayed at the Outrigger Luana Waikiki. We had a city view room with 2 beds and a kitchenette. It is located very convenient to shops, the park, beaches, etc. We were happy with our choice. There is an ABC store right across the street that sells just about anything you could want. To the right of the hotel there are shops such as Victoria's Secret, Coach, etc. all within walking distance. We had dinner at the Hard Rock Café (a 5 minute walk from hotel) for Thanksgiving.

Our room:

We are getting ready to re-book our trip to Hawaii.

We would have been arriving at the Pride of America, just after you were departing, so it was especially nice to read your review.

(We had to cancel with about a week to go before leaving home, due to sudden serious illness, and we are certainly glad we had trip insurance.)

We were going to take the same type of "flat bed" seats, as this was a major trip, to celebrate two major life events.

Were the seats/beds really comfy enough to have some proper sleep?

Do you think it helped prevent some jet lag?

(We are also planning some other "distant" travel, and hope that the extra expense - or points, sometimes - would be worthwhile.)

We had the same problem trying to find a tour for a catamaran/etc. to see NaPali. I guess some of them don't operate in the winter months (?).

Thanks for posting the photo links!

We are really looking forward (again!) to our first trip to Hawaii, but haven't decided exactly when yet.

We loved the seat/beds, but I can't say I got much sleep on them :D...I felt like it would be a "waste" to sleep...I had to play with every button, watched a movie, ate & drank, etc. My daughter did sleep for about an hour though...in fact I had a hard time waking her up for landing . I didn't really have much problem with jet lag surprisingly, so maybe laying flat even if I didn't sleep helped?? (I always seem to have trouble with jet lag going from NY to Las Vegas, so I was expecting some, but nope :).) I definitely think it was worth the money for those seats. I hope your trip goes well when you finally get to go. Have a great time!!

Thank you for the nice review. We had that suite last Sept and loved it. Going back Sept 2014. Great pictures lots of fun reading comments. We fell in love with the islands and look forward to return.

Enjoy your return trip. We definitely want to go back again sometime, but I don't know if we will book a suite again if we go. We just don't feel we got our money's worth since we were off the ship more than on it :).

LOVE the review!! It only makes me more excited for our June trip:D The pictures are great also. Going with our large family group (24 of us total) with DH & DD with me. DD is 25. Did your girls especially like or dislike anything? Also, any chance your might have your Dailies from the ship? AND be willing to post them  Can't find anything more current than 5/2013.

Where you in a S1? My sister and I are thinking of booking this in 2015 when the rates are lower. I'll be 36 and get the main bedroom and my sister will be 31, her 2 kids will be 6 and 2, so the younger one will still be able to cruise for free! :D

You think that second bedroom would be accommodating for the 3 of them?

I think I would put the 2 kids in the 2nd bedroom and have your sister sleep on pull-out couch in living room. The bed in 2nd BR isn't all that big. You can have the room steward close the bed every morning so you have a couch to sit on in that room but we just left it as a bed everyday. We did fold living room couch back up every day though. The one thing I will say about the balcony is that the railing is slats not glass like most. I would be very nervous with little ones out there as they could probably get through those rails. The suite would be great for you guys otherwise because there is a door on 2nd bedroom so you could put the kids to bed and hang out with your sister in living room or on balcony. Have a great trip !!! It was awesome!

Just had to say I read your complete review, and it was absolutely great and comprehensive. I am not booked on that cruise but have been to Hawaii several times and have almost always stayed at the Luana.

About the road to Hana - I was very pregnant on one of our trips along the road. It was so long and filled with so many turns that I had already picked out the Hawaiian name I was going to use if I gave birth at anytime there. My daughter did wait to be born at our local hospital, and I have been back on the route since then. Sorry about your rain at times. If you return, put Pearl Harbor back on your list of must sees.

Aloha.

My girls were just happy to lay in the sun. They liked walking around the shops at the port in Kona and buying their souvenirs there. They lost interest in the Road to Hana rather early on, but were "stuck" for the duration (about 5 hours on that road:eek:). They weren't as interested in the volcano as I was. They really had fun with the stand-up paddleboards in Kauai (and were pretty good at it for never having done it.) They just rented them right at the shop by the beach.

I have all the dailies except for day 7 (can't find it anywhere).

Aloha.

Thanks. I can't imagine doing the road to Hana pregnant! That couldn't have been easy. It was beautiful though :). We were sorry that we didn't get to see the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, but were very moved by the ceremony going on for the anniversary the day we were there. If we go back to Hawaii, we will make sure to get tickets ahead of time.
