Lobster Talk!

We're just steaming our lobsters now. I have to wait for DH to do it...I can't drop them in the water and hear them squeal! One was so active it worked it's way out of the bag on our kitchen counter...trying to escape, I guess.

Count us as one more cruising couple who loves that Canada/New England itinerary. We usually manage to have lobster (we are talking real lobster...not that stuff they call lobster on ships) in nearly every port...unless we are eating PEI Mussels. But we can now get PEI Mussels at a local farmers market (easy to cook) so this just makes lobster a bigger priority.

YIKES! I hate that part but it's worth it in the end. We haven't made our own since we moved, but soon. Enjoy. Wish I lived close enough to share with you.

One of the restaurants in PEI gave me their recipe and I made them at home. If you cook them one minute too long, they come out hard. And, for whatever reason, they didn't taste anywhere as good as they were in PEI.I would love to do that cruise again, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.

So do I, Carol. I'd be most happy to share them with you if you were closer.

SIL left 3 at daughter's house (he's married to her sister), and she can't cook them. It spooks her out. So DH has to go down and bring them hear to steam.

innlady - thanx for the inspiration. I had been reading your initial post to my DH the night before last, and when I got home from work yesterday (he had off, lucky duck!), there were lobster tails being steamed for our Christmas eve feast. Delicious!!!! I'm sure we've now found our new Christmas Eve tradition:D.

Merry Christmas one and all.

Can take or leave Lobster. King Crab however perked me up!

I'm with you on that. But there's a few dishes with lobster that for me are up there with king crab. This has me thinking I may go to one of our local Asian markets and get a lobster or crab for New Years. You choose the one you want and they steam them while you wait.

Hope it's not too far OT but on the Boston/Montreal or Boston /Quebec run, do you get to see coastline? (As in scenic cruising?)

There is scenic cruising sailing the St. Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City and it is beautiful. You don't see shore to shore the whole ride but for a considerable distance.

How about the boston RT 7 day historic coasts? Is that pretty much off shore steaming or closer cruising?

Oh my...just had DH put the 2nd three lobsters in the pot. I can't bring myself to do it...and hate when I see them jumping around in there.

ARGH! Many lobster lovers (and chefs) will tell you that its a very humane way to kill those lobsters (guess you could hit them on the head with a bowling ball). Have to admit that I prefer to have others put them in the pot...out of my sight. DW also has problems when she makes escargot. She loves to eat the things, but does not like to deal with them before they are cooked.

You will be far off shore in order for shops and casino to be opened.

I don't know the explanation as to why the can open them when cruising on St. Lawrence but the ship can and does when sailing between Quebec City and Montreal. Perhaps it is an 'exception' to the law?

We have done the 7 day Boston to Boston cruise three or four times including this past August and I recommend that as well though the Boston to Montreal is more inclusive. That cruise misses Charlottetown and Quebec City which we think are both wonderful.
