Can you profit from dropped prices and cabin upgrades if you already booked?

Today I found out that the prices for our cruise with the NLC Epic have dropped: for a similar amount to what we booked (BE category) you can now get a higher category (B6).

We booked through a TA.

I have two questions:

- can we profit from the dropped prices, even though we already booked

- if we can, should we? I'm not sure if there is a big difference between for example BE and B6 categories...

Yes, if you're before final payment. Maybe, if you're after final payment. After final payment, NCL (and pretty much any other cruise line) is under no obligation to give you a rate reduction or an upgrade. However, if you contact your TA, and they in turn contact the cruise line, you may be able to get an upgrade for little or no money or a possible OBC. Or you may get nothing.

Not sure about the difference between BE and B6. Sorry.

This is before final payment.

So if I would want to, I could just contact my TA and ask for an upgrade?

Your quote above, you are talking about what could happen after the final payment is made, right?

Yes, if you're before final payment, you should be able to take advantage of any rate reductions and/or possibly receive an upgrade. Keep in mind that it's possible that you may lose any promotional items (e.g., OBC, wine, etc.) that accompanied your original booking since you will be essentially re-booking at the lower rate with new terms.

Yes, the sentence you cited concerns after final payment date.

Looking at deck plan (I've never sailed Epic) it appears the B6 category cabin has a larger balcony than category BE.

Correct. B6 cabins on Epic are "Large Balcony" category staterooms.

I've cut-and-pasted this from another thread that asked a related question about after-final payment options when the cruise price goes down significantly:

>>My advice would be: Be clear about exactly what you want; Stay politely firm; And if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. We booked a b2b cruise on the Epic over a year ago that had a very good price on an excellent balcony cabin (BE) for both weeks. The first week has gone up in price for our cabin, but a few weeks ago the price of our second week dropped by almost $200/pp. We called our travel agent (a large cruise specialist internet outfit) on three occasions trying to get something for the price difference - - a room upgrade/extra OBC/drinks/Posh passes/etc. First time, nothing. Second time, an offer of a room "upgrade" that we felt was actually an inferior room (more mid-ship location, but a smaller balcony and much farther from the elevators). Third time, we hit paydirt - - a free upgrade to a corner aft balcony (B1) cabin (we love aft cabins), plus our OBC was doubled from $50 to $100. We never whined/complained/threatened/got angry/etc. Each time we thanked our agent for his help, even when we didn't get what we wanted. Polite perserverance paid off (probably along with some extra flexibility on NCL's part as well). Good Luck!<<

Yes, I can tell you we are booked on the Epic in April and when the prices dropped our TA rebooked us from a BE balcony to a B5 Family balcony with nearly a $300 pp price drop:D. We were able to keep the $50 obc from NCL and TA gave us an addl $50 obc. Our final payment date is still a couple weeks away.

Happy Sailing!

And some TA's either don't do changes or charge for them. You should ask that question before you book. Ask your TA about they're policy.

Prices have dropped significantly recently, so I've asked the question to my TA. Since they are specialized in cruise vacations, I'd be surprised if they didn't do changes.

What's the reason a TA wouldn't do this?

So if you book with a TA, you might not get the upgrade, and if you book directly with the cruise line, you will get the upgrade? Sounds strange to me...

I booked directly with NCL because my TA didn't call me back. After I booked my TA called me back and offered me 100 OBC if I transfer the reservation to her. She also mentioned that NCL should have given me a $25 OBC at the time of booking. I called my PCC at NCL and asked about the $25 OBC and she seemed annoyed and told me she needs to speak to her supervisors to see if she could add it. She did add it but it seemed awkward. Today I see NCL is offering $100 OBC and free balcony upgrade. I feel weird about calling her now. Do you think I should cancel my booking and rebook with my TA?
