Newbies sailing on Legend with the fam... Questions!

Hi All,

We're getting excited to take our first cruise on 3/09/14 on the Legend!

A few questions maybe someone can help me with:

We have a balcony for ma & pa and an interior right across the hall for the 3 kiddoes. Will both rooms have a fridge?

After reading a bad review on the rooms they originally put us in (under the aft pool = noisy) I had us moved to 7120 / 7122 - any feedback on those rooms?

Do they allow you to bring snacks from the ship into port?

If we buy a bottle of liquor or wine on the ship do they check it or let you take it to the room?

I've heard the younger kids love Camp Carnival, how about the Tweens and teens activities?

Which sea sickness meds work best for kids?

Is there any restrictions on how many times you can order room service or grab a burger or pizza? Meaning - do they keep track of your three meals or is it truly unlimited? (Teens eat 6x a day!)

We sail on Legend right after it's in dry dock for 2.0 upgrades. I've read there's going to be upgrades to some pools/ water slides. Which ship will it resemble once upgrades are complete (kids wanna see pics)?

Sorry- that's a lot of questions! Maybe there'll be even more to come ... :D

I love Legend!

You can not bring liquor on board, but each adult age 21+ can carry-on 1 bottle of wine. If you buy liquor on board they will store it for you. You can buy liquor from carnival.com for in-cabin consumption, prices are high.

Pizza is unlimited. Deli unlimited while open, room service is free & unlimited 24/7.

Have fun!

Both cabins will have fridges. Snacks in port are fine as long as they are sealed. No sandwiches/fruit or the like.

Your teens should be in heaven. They can eat 24/7 if they want. And there's always ice cream!

I think both rooms will have a fridge. Not positive.

No food off ship, unless it's those tiny, unopened boxes of cereal. If we plan on an excursion away from food, we bring granola bars etc.

Teen camps are highly dependent on the mix of kids on ship that week. Get them to attend the first night to check it out and meet people, and then tell them it's their decision for the rest of the cruise. Lots of kids form posses. The sports deck is popular.

Food is all-you-can-eat. 24 hour pizza is great. Unlimited soft ice-cream. Room service is great, but tip the waiter $2-$5 depending on the volume of food ordered.

Have fun!

Hi All,

We're getting excited to take our first cruise on 3/09/14 on the Legend!

A few questions maybe someone can help me with:

We have a balcony for ma & pa and an interior right across the hall for the 3 kiddoes. Will both rooms have a fridge? Both rooms will have a fridge that is stocked with minibar items for purchase. The fridges aren't super cold so I wouldn't advise storing food in them.

After reading a bad review on the rooms they originally put us in (under the aft pool = noisy) I had us moved to 7120 / 7122 - any feedback on those rooms? Should be rather quiet(barring any noisy neighbors) because these rooms are between decks of only cabins.

Do they allow you to bring snacks from the ship into port? You can take prepackaged snacks(sealed boxes of cereal, sealed granola, sealed jerky, etc...)

If we buy a bottle of liquor or wine on the ship do they check it or let you take it to the room?If you buy liquor on the ship they stow it for you until the end of the cruise. I do believe you can purchase bottles of wine to be consumed on the ship.

I've heard the younger kids love Camp Carnival, how about the Tweens and teens activities? It will really depend on the number of kids their age on the ship. I can't imagine it'd be fun if they were the only kids attending activities.

Which sea sickness meds work best for kids? I personally prefer Bonine. It's easy to take just one chewable a day. It's non-drowsy and doesn't taste awful. I'd start it a day or two before the cruise to get it into your systems.

Is there any restrictions on how many times you can order room service or grab a burger or pizza? Meaning - do they keep track of your three meals or is it truly unlimited? (Teens eat 6x a day!)You can literally eat all day every day if you so desire. 24 hour pizza, room service, ice cream. The only limitations are dining on the MDR. You can only go there once per day.

We sail on Legend right after it's in dry dock for 2.0 upgrades. I've read there's going to be upgrades to some pools/ water slides. Which ship will it resemble once upgrades are complete (kids wanna see pics)? Wish I could help with this one more, all I could say would be to look up 2.0 upgrades from ships that are done already(I'd check Carnival's website)Most upgrade info I've found is of the bars, dining venues, and entertainment. Can't find anything on the pools/waterslides.

Sorry- that's a lot of questions! Maybe there'll be even more to come ... :D

Have a great cruise!

Yes, but they aren't really cold. Also they will be filled with mini bar items. You can ask the room steward to remove these.

Do they allow you to bring snacks from the ship into port?

Only packaged things are supposed to be brought off the ship. A water bottle is always a good idea though.

If we buy a bottle of liquor or wine on the ship do they check it or let you take it to the room?

Depends on where you get it. Liquor from the shops is held until the last night. Other alcoholic beverages such as from room service or in the dining room can be consumed right then.

I've heard the younger kids love Camp Carnival, how about the Tweens and teens activities?

You're on board during spring break. There will be a lot of kids. The older kids program is only as good as the kids in it, so if there are a lot of fun and outgoing teens, then they will have a great time.

Which sea sickness meds work best for kids?

No clue, what do they usually use? I've not heard of sea sickness being an issue for young kids.

Is there any restrictions on how many times you can order room service or grab a burger or pizza? Meaning - do they keep track of your three meals or is it truly unlimited? (Teens eat 6x a day!)

No, there have been threads here about people ordering 3 entrees in the dining room or going to dinner twice. There's no "3 meals a day" in cruise ship land. Remember a few dollars tip is appreciated with each room service delivery. So if they are ordering several times a day, be sure to bring a large wad of singles.

Have a great trip!

Looking at your rooms you should be fine they are between floors with other rooms so you should not have a great deal of noise. Also from Minnesota and will be sailing the legend on March 2nd, we booked rooms 4237, 4230 and 4233. Have a great time and like others have said your kids will find other kids to hang with and have a great time!!!!!! We're from Anoka area where are you from?:D

I'll chime in even though you've got lots of information already. We sailed the Legend about 3 years ago and loved it so much we are cruising again Feb. 23. There will be lots of stuff for the tweens and teens. My son was a tween last time and stayed out every night till 1 am with the tween club they have. There's even more stuff for the teens. He's very excited about it. Both room will have fridge but they will be filled with stuff to buy (sodas, water, etc). Just ask the room steward to remove all of this when you first get there.

The Legend is our favorite ship, we've sailed her 3 times already, always a great cruise.

The noise question is difficult because where your room is located isn't the only factor. The times that we've had noise problems on our cruises, it has been the neighbors rather than ship noise.

We always bring some ear plugs just in case.

A "white noise" generator, such as a small electric fan can also help cover the noises around you. A long ago girlfriend of mine couldn't sleep unless there was a fan running in the room; not pointed at the bed just running for the noise. There are also apps that can run on your cell phone/tablet/laptop that will generate a soothing sound to distract from noises around you and let you sleep if it's a problem.

Enjoy your cruise.

Hi Mamatothree,

The changes are basically the same as the Carnival Spirit now sailing out of Australia,

They are getting the Legend ready for transfer to Aussie in September. go to carnivalcruises.com.au to have a look at the pics for Spirit. I was on her in July 2013 and it was a great ship and I am travelling on Legend to Aust from Los Angles in Sep 2014 so please let me know what it is like. Thanks AussieDale

We are just off the LEGEND Sunday. At the past guest party the CD Willie told us there will not be a lot of change. Only a two week dry dock HOWEVER he said the slide is suppose to be the biggest & wildest of all the ship's.

They are also redoing the casino some new machines & the tables will all be recovered. Sushi bar next to the casino ( just a nice sitting area now ). We did a B2B over Thanksgiving & then a B2B the first of this mth. & back again the last of Feb. First cruise after dry dock.

You & the kids will have a great time. Really good crew.

The kids ( 55-16 ) did the ZIP LINE in ROATON IN THE POURING RAIN & had a ball. Six drown rats but smiling.

Do not take fruit off the ship. There are tables and garbage cans in the debark area where people are told to put fruit they have in backpacks etc. Only packaged snacks should be taken into ports.

You can take a bottle of champagne or wine per erson 21 or older on board at embarkation.

You can order wine from room service, booze or champagne from Formalities which will be delivered to cabin. Prices the same as from Bon Voyage.

Cabins will have fridge--have it emptied (or put contents on a shelf) so you can put your things in it. If you leave the cabinet door open where the fridge is, it will help to keep it a bit cooler, not cold.

I take a small collapsable cooler and ask steward to keep it filled with ice (at morning and evening cabin service). Keep it on the floor of the shower so when it condenses, it won't get everything wet.

Room service is 24 hours a day, as much as you want. It's customary to tip $1 or $2 for each tray ordered. Be specific: if you want salt and pepper ask for it. The menu will be on a sheet of paper in the things on the desk at embarkation. It's easy to mistake for an ad and get thrown away. Last week it was on the back of something else. The breakfast menu is on a hook on the wall. You check off what you'd like--be specific again--and then hang it on the cabin door. You can specify when you'd like it delivered. Hopefully, it will be delivered close to that time!

I take a large mug with me and fill it with coffee on Lido in the morning then lemonade later. Some alcohol might be added later too!

There are lots and lots of activities for everyone. Get involved!

Have a great cruise!!

I've heard the younger kids love Camp Carnival, how about the Tweens and teens activities? My 12 and 13 year old boys like it!

Which sea sickness meds work best for kids? I don't give my kids preventative meds but do bring dramamine or bonine in case the seas get rough. Usually one dose and they are fine.

We sail on Legend right after it's in dry dock for 2.0 upgrades. I've read there's going to be upgrades to some pools/ water slides. Which ship will it resemble once upgrades are complete (kids wanna see pics)? You can go to carnival.com/au to see pictures of the new Legend deck plans.

Staying hydrated is super important for kids and adults to avoid seasickness. Soda/alcohol don't count, LOL. Kids that get motion sickness in cars will likely be worse off than otherwise good travelers. Our boys- twin 8s and 20- have never had an issue, although one of the younger ones had problems around age three with dehydration once and being regular...tmi, but this can be a serious problem with all that food on board. Now I bring some probiotic pills for that issue. We also have to have white noise and I play some Enya on the Ipad at bedtime nightly to get everyone to calm down- my kids would stay up all night on board if I let them! I bring Benadryl but have never had to use it.
