Hi, I almost had a heart attack, we count on that card so much. So I called the number for customer service and was assured that our card has no surcharges or fees for foreign transactions.

I SHOULD have mentioned that it is

CapitolOne Platinum Visa (pretty sure that there is a yearly charge).

I see a lot of place's charge a 12% fee for using your card in other country's. We are going to cozumel and Honduras and this was listed with several excurtion sites, its not always the credit card company that charges you in this case it the place's you use it. So we are going to pay cash.

Just walked off 10 day NCL jade and we didn't waste any money this cruise . Wife has all the gold and diamonds she could ever want

We take our own pictures with some help of other cruise mates

We drink a few glasses each night while we sat on balcony ( our own wine) 12 bottles carried on board and didn't even have a cork fee.....

We did bring a 12 pack coke on board also and nothing was said... I will not drink Pepsi that the ship has only

We did get some tee shirts but that's about all I think the charge came in at 360.... That's about 1/10 the norm

NCL let you walk on with a case of wine? Wow!!! CCL only let's us bring 1 bottle per person. I just came back and my tab was only $28+/-. A few margaritas and a couple bottle of water.

The NCL policy is to charge you a corkage immediately at embarkation on each bottle, whether you drink it in you cabin or the dining room. No refunds if you don't finish it.

Yes we have paid that in the past but when our cab drove up to the drop off point the guys at the dock just tagged our bag that carries our wine and rolled it away .....

This is the first time we took our bag from ( thewinecheck.com ) on a cruise, and yes I know about the fee... I would have thought we would have had to pick the bag up later but it was out side of our room along with soda and luggage

I wasn't going to call and ask.....

I have a Wine Check as well. Mine is the solid black one done as a special on Berserkers Day a couple of years back.

I've read several times on the NCL board that they do refund the corkage fee if you don't consume the wine (one probably has to go to guest services on the morning of disembarkation which for me would serve as a deterrent).

Again, probably a stupid question.

But, TYPICALLY, on a 7 night cruise, how much extra do you spend? Above what you've already prepaid?

I know there is a wide variety of people, habits, indulgences, preferences, etc.

Buying excursions onboard or just taking a taxi and being on your own.

Buying a pair of sandals at Nassau or buying an expensive piece of art.

Eating at the buffet the whole time, or room service with tips.

As I get ready, I was just wondering a, as we say here, 'ballpark' figure.

Thanks.

I think it really depends on the traveler. Do you drink on board? Do you buy gifts and souvenirs on board? Do you take any of the on board tours? They are worth it! And it really depends on what kind of traveler you are. Are you frugal or do you like to make the most of your vacation? I think $500 - $1000 is a pretty good place to start. Yes, you pay for your tips when you book but you can always leave extra and we will do that. We already purchased our excursions - they can sell out and we've booked our spa appts and have paid for them. So, we budget for the trip that way as an option.

thats the beautiful thing about a cruise . after your fare taxes and tips you can literally not spend another dollar and still have a great time . that being said my and my wife when if have the money spend $100 each on port days and $50 each on sea days. and $25 each on embark day.

so our cruise coming up has 4 ports = $800 2 sea days $100 and $50 on embark.

and this is excursions drinks and everything but fare and tips.

we do bring our 2 bottles of wine, and our own soda , we do smuggle a little .

we did go on a cruise a couple years ago and we did not have much money , we only spent $300.00 bucks after fare and tips the whole trip and we had a blast , we took a booze cruise , a snorkel trip , and had a few cocktails on board .

You do have the 2.5% fee from Visa on all foreign transactions... It is included or added in the conversion rate. You do not see it separately... Everyone has it, it's not charged by the card issuer but by visa ..

I bring around $3000.00 cash give or take when ever we cruise. You never know what you might find or want to do. We like to "Live in the NOW". I want to be able to drink, eat, buy and gamble what and when I want.

YOU ARE ON VACATION!!!

Last cruise my bill was $1700.00 for my wife and I.

Spend what you want and keep track of it. HAVE FUN PEOPLE!!!

Don't bring it if you can't spend it.

Everybody has there own idea of vacation. To each their own.

The last thing I want to do after a long tortuous day of travel is "clip coupons".

I'm going on the Liberty in 3 weeks. I'll get the first couple of rounds.

We are first timers going on the Freedom in 16 days!!

We have arranged our own excursions in port .. I have our on-board budget broke down as follows;

Souveniors - $200 (does not include anything purchased at ports)

Beverages - $500 (Soda card for 2 adults and 5 kids) plus limited amounts of alcohol

Casino - $150 (don't want to waste too much of our money)

Tips - $75 (we have pre-paid but this is for Room Steward and Bartenders)

Photos - $60 (only purchasing a couple)

Miscellaneous - $60

Is this reasonable? Am I forgetting anything? I don't want any surprises .. We are using cash on the S&S cards, not credit .. avoiding that at all costs .. :) ..

Thanks!

We budget $100 per day when we go out for shore excursions excluding the cost of the excursion. That covers all the shopping, food, you could imagine and good for you if you don't spend it all. All your puchases on board are charged to your seapass card. We only use cash when off the ship. Enjoy!

Tvan, i think thats a good budget. Personally I would cut the casino funds in half. Casinos always win. Instead, check out the shows or all the other activities. Same with Bingo. Don't load up on the drink of the day with the decorative glass unless you plan on $6-7 drink. I have been known to purchase those beautiful drnk glasses as part of my shopping budget. Finally, dont stress over the spending. You can cut back on the gaming, and even the tips because they are already prepaid and drinks havethe tip added in. Enjoy!

Wow! No wonder cruise ships love us! To each his own, but I'm very impressed on how frugal everyone on this thread is! We try to estimate our cash and on board expenses before we go. We always go over however, like someone said "You're on vacation"! We save up all year for a fun and relaxing experience.

Here is our breakdown:

Free Airfare (DH travels for work...save miles all year. book air way in advance)

Free Hotel (ditto)

Have fun in port city :$200.00

Before getting on cruise: one dinner at steak house, bought all the available casino chips (on gift page online) to use onboard for two: $560

"Free Cruise": pay taxes and port fees $500 for two (free upgarade to Ocean View)(We should have spent a little more for an upgrade to a balcony) from casinos at sea

Embarkation day: buy soda pass (turns out it was unessessary, hardly used it), wine package~$120 4 bottles (not worth it), spa pass $300 for two (can use spa facilities anytime, totally worth it. 2 Slot tournaments for two $60, wine tasting for 1:$15 totally worth it.

Casino: We spent what normal people pay for their rooms over the holidays (hense the "free" cruise). Up and down in $ all week. But house always wins in the end! (except for one amazing cruise, Casino payed for everything!)

Alcohol: Free house drinks in the casino (great perk).:D

Tips: pay on final bill with bartenders getting tips all along on free drinks in casino.

Ports: We pay cash. Arranged everything befrore hand. researched through cruise critic or trip advisor. No ship excursions. Snorkeled, cavetubing, all inclusive beach day at Maya Chan (At Costa Maya). Some were amazing, some not so much.

No bingo, no "deal or no deal" cards,no photos or shopping on board (We saves something there, yay;))

Total: Way expensive but we knew approximately $$ going in.

Perk: We usally get invited back for another "free" cruise from casions at sea! Casinos at Sea bought us a dinner at specialty restaurant and a bottle of wine on last night. (On a Med. cruise they paid for most of our expensive shore excursions).

I guess thats how we have fun!:p

Cheers!
