Need help picking cabin deck on sun

We are looking at the sun for a Dec cruise this year.

There is a free upgrade special running that will get us a BD on deck 9 (pretty far forward or aft) for $2288. It looks like all of the deck 8 cabins in that category are gone or not eligible or the free upgrade.

My TA has a group and has one BC cabin left in their reserved cabins. It is on deck 10 - right under the buffet. This cabin is only $2118. Is anyone familiar with the noise level of these cabins? Do you get awakened early by chairs scraping around in the buffet?

I usually prefer having cabins above and below me, but I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $170. Plus, on the aft/forward thing, the deck 10 cabin is closer to the middle of the ship, even though it isn't by much.

Help please????

Is the cabin being offered under a carpeted (QUIET cushioned) area of buffet

(seating area) or is it under the serving area (hard tile NOISY floors) or under

the pool deck area with deck furniture being moved not so nice if the crew is

playing musical chairs all night setting up for the next days activities.

Forward of the elevators and stairs not so bad this where the spa; beauty salon

aerobics and mini-suites are overhead on deck 11.

Aft end of the ship may not be so good because of the outdoor garden café.

If you can - take a look at the deck diagrams and see what is where.

Deck nine anywhere should be fine just as deck eight is - but certain areas of

deck 10 be careful.

All in all I would opt for Deck 9 but would want to check the specific location

before making a $ decision.

Almost a full year to plan - no hurry - You did not indicate where the cruise

was/is to - the port side of deck 11 pool deck has less commotion than the

starboard.

Sailed the SUN late July 2013 Alaska southbound had mini suite Deck 11 port.

The exact cabin number on deck 10 is 0253. Having not been on the Sun, I am guessing that is seating area, but I'm not sure.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have to decide by 1/13 because of the special group hold cabin.

Cabin 0253 on deck 10 aft-midship starboard is right next to a high traffic area - elevators and stairs.

Convenient for rapid access to go anywhere on the ship.

Because of that it forms the main entry way to the buffet on deck 11 right overhead.

I would anticipate a great deal of noise at all times the buffet is open.

I would make a selection somewhere else unless the $170 savings is meaningful to your sacrificing quiet.

Hope these two (deck) links work to give you a better idea of the location of cabin 0253:

Look for the elevators and stairs aft end of the ship for reference.

I like the drag and drop deck plans here. Unfortunately, having not been on the ship, it is hard to know how the actual layout (seats vs serving area, vs hallways) matches to the drawings.

The drag and drop feature is great for lining up stairs and all.

We have been close to the stairs a couple of times on different ships and have not really noticed a lot of noise from people coming and going. Most of our noise has been from cabins next to us, or people running over us.

$170 is not a deal breaker for us, but I do like the aft stair area better than the forward stairs, so I have a couple of more days to think about it and change my mind a bunch of times. Ha ha.
