I didn't realize the Pearl had a Big Screen for movies? Is this out on one of the decks and huge like Carnival has or is this just a big screen TV type thing. More details please!

They have a huge screen in the Atrium.. nothing outside like Carnival.

I read on my roll call the cruise from February 3-7 is a chartered cruise something about bluegrass music. I have no idea how it works. Didn't know about it till after I read the boards. Seems like ncl would have let me know but they didn't. I don't care though a vacation is a vacation.

This cruise started as a full charter, but sales were flat so Sixthman and NCL released half the ship to regular cruisers.. however, there will be closed venues for the music.

Yes, as was mentioned it is inside in the atrium. It's two stories high, and has a lot of comfy chairs and couches on the first floor to relax on and enjoy he movie, also a bar. The second floor (which has a glass railing overlooking the screen) has Moderno, a Bar and Blue Lagoon. So you can sit anywhere in those areas along the rail and see the movie.

OP -- Do you have the names of the Captain and officers ? I am booked on the Feb 3 cruise, so I assume most will still be there.

The captains name was Hamermin (spelling?).

I think I have a pic somewhere with all the names for the Guest Services Manager, Hotel Director, Food and Beverage Manager, etc. If you're interested let me know and I will post it :)

Sorry to say, but from talking to the crew, the slide is coming down due to the fact that this is the only ship they will be using for charters from now on (and that means less kids) and that it spends half the year in Alaska. :(

There is still Rock Climbing, Soccer, Shuffle Board, Golf Driving Cage, XL Checkers and XL Chess.

I do agree that it should be posted somewhere on their website though that the slide is gone. It was a surprise to us when we got on the ship, and my husband was sad that there wouldn't be a slide to use (he's young at heart lol)

Thank you so much for sharing the info. It might sound crazy to others but i may change my cruise :( My boys are 7 & 5 and it makes a huge difference to them unfortunately. We LOVE the slides on Epic but wanted to try another NCL ship (have also been on RCI). They actually don't the rock wall or other sports...i am so bummed!

Did any of the bars have 2 for 1 Happy Hours?

I didn't see any 2 for 1 specials, but there were 4.95 Margaritas on the last day of the cruise. The drink specials for each day are listed on the bottom of the second page of each days dailies 😄 I had seen on dailies from earlier cruises that there were 2 for 1 Martinis I believe.

I completely understand! Not crazy at all. If I had young ones traveling in my group I'd definitely be concerned about what is aboard to entertain them! Hope everything works out for you, let us know how it goes!

Thank you! I'm going to call over the next few days I think. The only thing I'm worried about is that I may not get the correct answer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they plan on putting it back for the Caribbean sailings and the Panama Canal sailing...one can hope right LOL!

No, they are not putting the slide back from what I've heard. If that's a deal breaker for you, I'd look into switching.

The sixthman charters cover the pool the slide emptied into to set up stages and have more standing room. So it was closed and an issue for sight lines.

Several months of charters, longer Caribbean sailings (with less kids), and a long Alaska season means it was in the way more than it was being used.

I will look for him !! I bet he will be one busy fellow with all the music going on !!!

Why aren't you going with us ?? Bill

I wish! Just did the last week of Alaska on the Pearl in Sept.

You'll be on for week 4 of a 9 week stretch for him. He will be exhausted. I'll let him know you'll be there.

Are your Reno buddies also going?

Sorry for the hi-jack post. I will check with DS to see if slide is being replaced after music cruises.

Reno buddies aren't making this one. They were with us on the Star to Panama in Nov and will be with us on the Star in March to Mexico.

I called Casinos at Sea today and did also confirm that they removed the slide and it will not be going back on...i switched my upcoming cruise to the Getaway :D

Seems like the Pearl's slide issue may have turned out to be been a good thing for you! Like you, we also thoroughly enjoyed the Epic slides. Though we didn't get to use the Pearl slide (we were on the 1/5/14 cruise along with ParrotGurl and watched it being disassembled), there is no way it could have compared to the Epic slides. It had a few turns, but still looked more like a pool slide you find at many hotels; your boys may have been disappointed. Sounds like a smart move to switch ships and can't wait for you to report back on how your family enjoys the five slides in Aqua Park aboard the Getaway. :D

Captain Gunnar left the Pearl for vacation on the 12th of Jan, according to Archie during the finale. No announcement was made as to whether he was returning to the Pearl after the vacation. He is a terrific captain and a funny guy.
