JLawes Posted January 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Hi, going to book our next cruise today but all thats being offered to me are staterooms with connecting doors. Would you advise against or for this, not sure at all what to do Thanks in advance Jackie
middlehaitch Posted January 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2014 It really depends on which cruise line you are sailing with. Most of the S class ships on Celebrity have a connecting door configuration that doesn't transmit the noise as well if that is what your concern is. Cheers, h. JLawes Posted January 15, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Hi H, yes it is the noise factor I'm thinking about. We're both light sleepers so would hear noise if any and I'd hate to think we were noisy for connecting stateroom. I'm deaf in my left ear so we tend to have the tv slightly loud. I'd die of shame if we were noisy and they complained about us
dorisis Posted January 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I think most connecting rooms also lose a sofa or a chair to the connecting door. Noise depends on who has the room next to you. Some doors are soundproof.
sail7seas Posted January 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I think most connecting rooms also lose a sofa or a chair to the connecting door. Noise depends on who has the room next to you. Some doors are soundproof. Sometimes a connecting room has smaller closet. Why is that all you are being offered? Is the ship almost sold out? Looking at your deck plan, do you see that many (most) of the cabins on that ship or in your category are connecting cabins?
cb at sea Posted January 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2014 If that's all that's offered, no fear! Stuff a towel at the base of the connecting door, if noise is an issue. You should be fine.

Would you advise against or for this, not sure at all what to do Depends on the ship. I've been in a connecting room on Liberty of the Seas, Independence's sister ship, and not had a problem. Norwegian Sky, on the other hand, was a totally different story. There was a gap under the door large enough for light to shine through. You could hear everything through it. crystalspin Posted January 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) Whereas on the Norwegian Star last month, I heard two voices (a question and answer?) exactly once, muffled -- must have been where I was standing -- I had thought the room was unoccupied before that! We are quiet, too, so I hope they thought the same! Edited January 15, 2014 by crystalspin
obnurse Posted January 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2014 We had a connecting cabin on Celebrity Equinox. No noise at all. On that ship they don't adjoin in the cabin, but in the hallway. Not sure which ship you're sailing, but I wouldn't worry
