We should be arriving about 8:30.

I'd hate to head to the pier that early.

Is there a good place to stop for a breakfast?

anyplace opened in the airport that early in the morning--- it will be mid week

I can't answer your question but here's a great thread where I'm sure it can be. Just post your question at the end.

We have arrived several times on a red eye at 6:00am .

There are several coffee shops (Starbucks/Einsteins), Dennys, etc on 17th within 2 blocks of the pier. Or you could hit one of the hotels for a nice breakfast too. :)

Airport services will be open. I wouldn't want to drag luggage around from place to place. Have your breakfast there and then go to the port about 10ish.

That is not that early. I agree use the airport services and then proceed to the port around 10 ish. Most major airports are up and running by 7 in the morning for restaurants etc...I have been in airports around 6-7 and found places to eat.

Agreed, this isn't early at all. I do feel you are cutting it close flying in the same day, so hopefully there will be no delays. If you are on time, by the time you collect your luggage and sort yourselves out, it should be well after 9 am. Have something in the airport and then head to the pier.
